[edit] Bug Question

This bug was on the main page, but I've moved it here to get confirmation/clarification:

  • Do not run into the Oblivion Gate _before_ you speak to the leader of the city, only after you speak to him and he says "please close that Oblivion Gate outside of the city". If you first go to the Oblivion Gate, then speak to the leader, there will be another Oblivion Gate outside the city!

My problem is that you never speak to the "leader of the city" (Countess Narina Carvain) during this quest, only Captain Burd. And Captain Burd never says something like "please close that Oblivion Gate outside of the city": he is asking to be taken into the gate to learn how it is closed. Which makes me wonder whether this comment has anything to do with the Bruma Gate quest. It sounds more like Allies_for_Bruma, except then it's incorrect: you can close the city gates long before talking to the city leaders. So can anyone confirm that a bug like this occurs for Bruma Gate and if so fill in the correct information on to whom you are supposed to speak? --Nephele 14:49, 9 October 2006 (EDT)

After closing the gate.... ALL the guards started attacking me and my mount. the only NPC that i could Yield to was burd. i don't know whats going on... Fame 34, Infamy 65, Bounty 0 -TehBuG- (68.146.201.46 01:36, 25 June 2007 (EDT))

just to add... after i posted this i hightailed it to cloud ruler temple on foot (used shodowmere as a a distraction hehe) and talked to jaufree the burma guards no longer hated me... so i don't know what happened. i didn't attack any guards or anything.. (I'm running open cities, the unofficial patch thats on this site and environment upgrades... maybe it was one of these?) -TehBuG- (68.146.201.46 01:36, 25 June 2007 (EDT))
The guards attacked me after closing the gate, too - but I'm pretty sure it's because I kept accidentally hitting them with arrows while inside Oblivion. I had to cast charm on each guard individually before they would accept my yield (note: casting charm on the guards with you before you take the sigil stone won't work - the charm has worn off when you get back to Bruma) 203.33.161.223 02:55, 8 March 2008 (EST)

I had a similar problem, but when i walk up to the gate they start attacking me, its really wierd. I cant start the darn quest. Burd just runs around like an idiot and his soldiers hack away at me. Guards are known to attack 100% vampires sometimes. Perhaps you could try feeding before heading for the gate? --RpehTalk 03:54, 8 August 2007 (EDT)

[edit] Invisible Burd Bug

I went into the Bruma gate and jumped the broken bridge while burd and his guards were following me. They followed... pretty funny, but they all died and Burd couldnt get out. He just kept getting knocked out in the lava. I left him there and went inside the tower. He was inside with me but i invisible. The game acted like he was there. He was fighting and healing himself and everything that he would normally do, but i could not see him. He was this way until we were on the second floor of the tower. [edit] Dead Guards

I had shut down the gate with NO casualties and all of a sudden, when I was transported back to Cyrodiil, all the guards who were guarding the gate just died (my oblivion companions were not affected). Is this a glitch or supposed to happen? --Aldage 18:37, 16 October 2007 (EDT)

[edit] Gate not closing after sigil stone taken

I am running several mods too, but the only one that could percievably affect this is OOO. When I take the sigil stone (with burd and his friends watching) the normal graphics occur then die down, we do not get teleported out and just stay there in the sigillum sanguis. Any suggestions? I could console the quest forward etc but I do not know how to close a gte via the console. This has not happened with other characters, even with the same mod setup. The console command to close the current Oblivion Gate is CloseOblivionGate so it's worth trying that. Let us know if it works. --RpehTCE 12:40, 1 November 2007 (EDT)

i had that problem with gfx glitching and no reaction after taking the the sigil stone, the above command works, i.e. fast travel mod to oblivion gate (from cyrodil) enter console mode, left click on gate and type the CloseOblivionGate. the command below did not work for me —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 129.31.237.196 (talkcontribs) on 6 April 2008.

[edit] Allies?

Shouldn't Allies for Bruma be one of the next quests? After doing this quest I talked to Jauffre and I got the Allies quest, before doing the Blood of the Divines quest. --Roguelike

Allies for Bruma is more of a side quest as it can be done at the same time as other parts of the main quest line are active. See this page for more information. —RpehTCE 10:46, 18 December 2007 (EST)

[edit] stuck in the tower

i just started this quest but im stuck in the fury spike i just keep going in circles all the doors i find keep bringing be to the same places how do i get to the top of the tower i tried jumping from one level to another but never worked —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 76.227.136.26 (talkcontribs) on 19 March 2008.

go to each (side)tower and pull the swich to activate their gate. do this to ever one of the side towers (theres about 4 to 6). sorry but i forget the rest but after activating all the gates go back inside the main tower (via: the bridges coneecting the towers) and re check the doors.

Hope he got out of the tower by now! I think he is talking about another tower from one of the other planes. There is a tower like that on one of the random planes, but the Bruma Gate tower is pretty straight forward. I just finished the Bruma Gate and I don't recall having to open any gates--203.59.104.216 11:16, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

Hello!

During this quest, Captain Burd orders Bor & Soren to come with him, while the others stay outside of the gate.

Has anyone ever made it official which guy is "Bor" and which guy is "Soren"?

I'd like to know so that I can name them correctly. I have a mod that names the guards, but the modder wasn't paying attention I guess, to who was already named or not. He named one "Grumpy" and the other.... I forget at the moment.

I want to rename them to the names they were meant to have.

Unfortunately, no. I checked through the CS and they are simply named 'Bruma Guard'; if you really want them named, flip a coin and decide who's who ;) --SerCenKing 15:03, 26 February 2009 (EST)

Oh, hey, wow! Fast reply! Thanks SerCenKing! I came back to see why "CloseThisOblivionGate" wasn't working. I've got four people balanced on the ring and my character is unable to grab the stone! Oh, and by the way, "Bashful" was the name I couldn't recall. So now I know that I should've used "Current" instead and that it doesn't make a difference which one gets renamed what. Hm. [edit] What Happened to Burd's Armor?

I went back to Cyrodil in the middle of the Bruma Gate Quest, and when I got back, all of Burd's armor was gone. I suppose this isn't a big issue, because Burd can't die anyway, but it seems a little curious, and he's going to be that much more useless in fighting monsters until we close the Oblivion Gate. Hello! This happened to me too! So I checked his inventory and saw that his armor needed reparing. I repaired it for him and he began to wear it again. I hope that helps! ;-) 70.129.174.127 00:37, 9 April 2009 (EDT)

[edit] Fire+NPC=bad

I was trying to complete this level when bord(or board i forget) got pushed into the lava. i didnt think much because i thought he would just appear at the end of the gate. but after fighting my way to the top, i figured out i still needed him. i was wondering if i could do a teknesus spell to lift him up or a control humaniod to get him out of the lava.

btw I have a ps3 so i cant to a command consal :(

[edit] Captain Burd in Bruma stuck

(Following moved here from Oblivion:Glitches/Proposed)

In the Bruma Oblivion Gate Quest, Captain Burd gets stuck right before the tower in some weeds under a fire shooting tower. If you knock him away from the spot, by hitting him and knocking him out, he stands up and immediately "warps" back to that exact location. In order to complete the quest, you need Burd to come to the sigil stone with you. However, Burd seemingly cannot move from this spot. http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Bruma_Gate is the quest link, however, there is no quest glitches reported problems on this page.

For some odd reason whenever I get to the location of the Bruma Battle martin takes forever to start his speech and when he finishes nothing happens no daedra appear and everyone just stands there, ive gone through it over and over and nothing will help i am running some mods but most quests have worked fine

When I got to the top of the tower in the sigil stone room, I encountered a Dremora Valkynaz who was wearing a Mundane Ring. The same ring you get a few mission's ago. I just thought it was kind of strange a normal Dremora foot soldier was wearing such a valuable ring.--173.49.139.213 03:59, 30 August 2009 (UTC)

Yup, each Dremora Valkynaz has a 10% chance of having one random magic apparel, and in your case it was a ring. Valkynaz generally aren't foot soldiers, but the highest ranking Dremora, so it's not entirely strange for them to have valuable equipment. Talk Wolok gro-Barok Contributions
