Stub[edit]

I've marked this page as a stub, but I'm not sure there's anything else that can be said about this subject; however, I wasn't sure where to categorize this page. In addition, it may be more appropriate to move this to the Tamriel:Dictionary page since it's really a definition. Any thoughts? --Hoggwild5 07:44, 16 October 2006 (EDT)

I think the larger question is does this page need to exist at all? Pretty much everything you need to know about Doyens is covered adequately on the Oblivion:Thieves Guild page, so there's not much to add to it. My vote would be to either get rid of this, or just redirect to the Thieves Guild page section on Doyens. (Not sure about putting it in the Tamriel:Dictionary, since Oblivion is the only game that uses the term. Morrowind had people that provided the same service, but the word "Doyen" was never used.) --TheRealLurlock 09:15, 16 October 2006 (EDT)
Yea, I didn't think the dictionary was the place for it either, but I was trying to come up with suggestions. Putting the info on the Thieves Guild page and redirecting any links there may be the cleaner way to go -- perhaps include the definition above the Doyen table on the Thieves Guild page, and link to that? (Just as a reminder that a "Doyen" is the person you should see to remove your bounty if you are a TG member). Also, perhaps add that, in the event you are expelled from the Guild, you must go see a "Doyen" to pay your fines to get reinstated (I guess there was more to add after all :)).

I think the information has value since there's really nothing that explains what a Doyen is, but the term is used in dialogue in the game and Doyens have specific roles that other TG members don't have--Hoggwild5 09:37, 16 October 2006 (EDT)
I redid this page, adding some useful tidbits and trivia, plus a link for doyen to Wiktionary. I hope it's more useful as is, and up to UESP standards: this was my first edit. Felic 08:18, 1 February 2007 (EST)

Stub expansion and layout[edit]

I've fleshed out the stub to give it more of a 'complete article' feel - but - I concur with the argument over it's existence above - it's tough to give too much more info on "Doyen"'s in this sense without doubling up. Perhaps using the major points and chopping it right down might help? This way a user could still see which NPC's are the doyens, and navigate to info on guild etc? Maybe a simple addition to the doyen section on the main page will help more this way - making it linkable etc. --MacFodder 01:07, 7 February 2007 (EST)

Move?[edit]

I cleaned this page up a bit, but I really don't know if this page is really that useful. the info in the beginning is already on the Thieves guild page, and the info on the NPCs could just be put onto their own pages. Any other thoughts? --Teal 10:49, 26 September 2007 (EDT)

I'd be in favour of changing the page to a redirect to Oblivion:Thieves Guild#Doyens, after making sure that all of the info is included either there or on the NPC pages. At the time the article was first created, it wasn't possible to make a redirect point to a subsection of an article. However, we do now have that capability, and a redirect seems preferable to permastub. Especially when it feels like most of the content on this page has been added just to try to flesh out the page despite being only semi-relevant. If you'd like to give it a shot, Teal, I'd say go for it :) --NepheleTalk 11:40, 26 September 2007 (EDT)
Well, most of the information on the Doyen page was already somewhere else, so moving to info was really easy. Could someone check to make sure that I got everything? I made a few changes to the NPC's pages, and to the doyen section in the Thieves Guild page. Thanks. --Teal 18:55, 26 September 2007 (EDT)
Hello! What I find lacking in this whole article about Doyens, is an explanation for why your character can't become one, or appoint one, or why it isn't a rank for the guild. Ditto for "Beggar" while I'm at it. I've been looking for mods that add "Beggar", "Doyen", and "Fence" as achievable ranks for the "Thieves Guild" or allow the PC as the "Gray Fox" to appoint people to the position or promote them or demote them to such positions, but I've yet to find any. So with that clue I think there's something about the "Constuction Set" that doesn't allow people to make such mods. Could that be true? If not, why hasn't it been done yet?! But mod efforts aside, has anyone read any official data concerning why those "positions" if not "ranks" aren't listed in the ranks? Just wondering! Leo Star Dragon 1 08:08, 31 August 2011 (UTC)
