Souls[edit]

Is it possible that the souls listed for the various goblin tribes are level-dependent? I just went through Wenderbek Cave, and collected only greater souls: one from a Skull Breaker Goblin War Chief, one from a Skull Breaker Goblin Berserker, and one from a Skill Breaker Goblin Shaman. None of these match what is listed under Skull Breaker Tribe. (Edited to add: I was level 15 or 16 at the time) --Nephele 18:32, 4 August 2006 (EDT)

Just noticed this. Added +'s for leveled creatures. I'm still not sure how exactly this works, but I do know you'll get bigger souls for leveled creatures at higher levels. --TheRealLurlock 10:26, 6 September 2006 (EDT)

Spell Absorbtion[edit]

Goblin Shaman have Spell Absorbtion ability, if I'm not mistaken.--Den 03:19, 6 September 2006 (EDT)

Bitterfish Tribe Shaman[edit]

Just to clarify: the Bitterfish Tribe does include a goblin identified as the "Bitterfish Goblin Shaman", therefore I believe it is incorrect to claim that this tribe does not have a shaman. However, there is no guarantee that in your game you will encounter this shaman. The shaman appears in a leveled list used to generate the Miscarcand goblin boss. You will only see a shaman if you are at level 13 or higher, and even then there's only a 1 in 3 chance that the boss will be a shaman. Also, the shaman does not have any spiritual significance for this tribe. So this goblin is a shaman in name only, but nevertheless is technically a shaman. --Nephele 15:27, 7 October 2006 (EDT)

Totem Wars[edit]

If killed the tribe is without a spiritual leader and will no longer go to war over their totem. Each tribe also has a war chief as their military leader. If a tribe's totem is stolen the war chief will lead the tribe to retrieve it.

Is this actually true? I have been looking on the script controlling the totems, and it is full of debug messages and notes. It really does not seem to work. Can anyone confirm this?--Arcatus 05:18, 20 February 2007 (EST)

It's not in the totem script, but in the AI packages for the goblins. Most of it is in the war chief's AI: he's the one who actually goes after the totem. Most of the other tribe members just blindly follow the war chief. Although I'm going from memory this time... AI packages are one thing I can't easily access without the actual construction set. --Nephele 10:24, 20 February 2007 (EST)

Can't start Totem wars[edit]

Is it really possible to start totem wars? When I steal one clan's staff they and leave it outside, no one goes after it. If I leave it in another tribe's domain, no one gets out of the cave. Are there any special conditions to start goblin wars or do you just need the mod? --Floppy 15:37, 28 February 2007 (GMT)

My guess is you probably killed the War Chief in the process of stealing the totem. The whole "Goblin Wars" feature was rather poorly done, I think, as it's very difficult to actually get them to happen. In order to get down to where you can steal the totem, you most likely have to kill the only Goblin in the cave who cares about it. Most Goblin tribes respawn, however, so if you wait a while, they may "elect" a new War Chief and you'll have a nice Goblin war on your hands. Maybe. I don't know. --TheRealLurlock Talk 10:19, 28 February 2007 (EST)
No, I didn't kill a war chief. I even dropped the staff outside the cave and no one goes to look for it. --Floppy 16:22, 28 February 2007 (GMT)
You also have to sure to not kill the Goblin Shaman. For a war to start, both the Shaman and the War Chief have to be alive. And they won't respawn; none of the tribal goblins respawn, only the generic goblins. Also, you need to be careful that you don't get the goblin totems confused. They all look identical; there is no way to tell them apart in your inventory. But each of them is internally tagged to go with one specific tribe (except for the shaman staff you pick up during the tutorial, none of the goblin tribes care about that one). If you dropped the staff for another tribe, it might take them a while to figure out where it is and come get it. --Nephele 14:37, 28 February 2007 (EST)
Is it even possible to get the staff without killing the Shaman? I mean, he's carrying it, right? At least they have been every time I've seen them. I didn't think you could pickpocket creatures anywhere. Maybe you'd have to cast Disintegrate Weapon on him until it breaks and he drops it. All of this seems like way more trouble than it's worth. --TheRealLurlock Talk 14:58, 28 February 2007 (EST)
The shaman is not carrying the tribal staff; the shaman is equipped with a random weapon from the LL0CrWeapGoblin4Shaman100 list, which means at high levels she/he/it is carrying a generic stave. Typically the tribal staff is out in the open somewhere. --Nephele 15:05, 28 February 2007 (EST)

() I didn't kill the shamans either, I checked. Lots of people can't start goblin wars, nor get them to go looking for their totem staff if you drop it in the open. Supposedly the mod fixes this, but is it really possible to start them without mods? I dropped the totem staff outside their cave and nobody came looking for it and both the warchief, skirmishers and shaman were alive. --Floppy 14:03, 1 March 2007 (GMT)

I Got The Goblins to go out for there staffs, i took it to skingrad i waited for a while but they came in the end, i also got two tribes to fight each other so for me it worked, and i used no mods — Unsigned comment by Yoshi (talkcontribs) at 22:04 on 14 April 2007 (GMT)
I think the Three Feathers tribe is hostile towards all goblins even the ones not in tribes. I notices it when I was exploreing their cave that somehow a goblin who wasn't in their tribe was attacking their tribal shaman. Anyways I ended up killing it. Also before I entered the cave the two goblins who are out side attacked me and 3 feather tribe goblins came out of the cave and saved me :). — Unsigned comment by 24.207.9.173 (talk) at 01:38 on 18 July 2007 (GMT)

From what I've read on this site, the Goblin Wars don't work in any unpatched version of the game (no patch is specified. Hopefully someone can clear this up for me. Thanks in advance). — Unsigned comment by 68.184.143.171 (talk) at 21:48 on 28 March 2008
The War Chiefs will respawn. Look on the article for any of the lair caves and you won't see the "(non-respawning)" tag next to them. Also, I've just tested this myself with a few different tribes by killing everything except the shaman and waiting 3 days. --Tenraah 07:26, 18 July 2010 (UTC)

() Ok I got 100% chameleon snuck into 4 diff tribal caves ( that I discovered but never explored before ) I got their tribal totems ( and used charges and marked them. i.e. 115=White Skin, 116=Bloody Hand etc.) and I attempted starting wars in sevral different caves, towns and even in the Planes of Oblivion but no goblins came searching for their totem. I know this was sloppily written, I'll try to clear whatever I can up, but can anyone clarify what EXACTLY is the problem? Also, I took/killed/did absolutly nothing but the Tribal Totem. — Unsigned comment by 4.252.209.166 (talk) at 03:52 on 24 September 2010

It's not that it was sloppily written, it was never written in the first place. Goblin wars are largely a myth — there's a little bit of scripting to find their totem if the goblins are close enough to it, and in the one specific case (Goblin Trouble), that'll contributes to the two tribes fighting each other, but that's about it as far as I can recall. There used to be a page here about causing goblin wars, and a lot of people researched the topic, and it was found to just not be true, so the page was deleted. Three Feathers Shaman[edit]

In the article it says that only the goblin called Feathers is the shaman. I believe this might be a misspelling of "Feather's" as in Three Feather's Shaman; Their shaman... anyone think of this or am I just destined for Shivering Isles as a rambling madman?Drake3555 22:26, 19 May 2008 (EDT)

You're destined for SI, Drake. :) In the Construction Set, all the members of the tribe are identified as "Three Feather Goblin <whatever>", but the Shaman is identified as "Three Feathers Goblin Shaman". It's possible they meant it to be possessive or they may have inadvertently made it plural (which makes sense)...either way, in the CS, it's just "Feathers". --Robin Hood (TalkE-mailContribs) 14:43, 22 May 2008 (EDT)
Possibly but I didn't mean that the user misspelled it but that the Bethesda people misspelled--Drake3555 19:28, 15 June 2008 (EDT)

Peaceful Goblins[edit]

I was just playing yet another new character and found my way into the Derelict Mine. There's a lot of those damned Sharptooth guys in there. I fought through a whole bunch of them and killed their war chief only to find even more around the shaman. After a couple of times dying I figured killing the shaman first was the only way I'd win since he kept hitting me with his bolt attack thing. Boy was it! All the Sharptooth goblins completely ignored me after that. I have a few mods on and I assume the entry is for vanilla Oblivion, but it's never mentioned that goblins will become completely docile if they have no shaman or war chief. Is this something in a mod like OOO or just not mentioned in the entry? — Unsigned comment by 71.199.72.211 (talk)

This happened to me but in about ten seconds they acted like normal goblins and fought--Drake3555 00:24, 3 July 2008 (EDT)
I just saw this on PS3 Oblivion (no patches GOTY or DLC content, just the vanilla disc). The Sharptooth War Chief was on the top level of the two story room (with the stone bridge over the gap), but I didn't go there first. I did enter the lower level and aggro the war chief with my low sneak skills, but then I went to the bottom level and killed the Shaman, took the Totem staff. Then none of the surviving goblins, even the War Chief itself, would attack me. I thought maybe it was from killing the shaman or carrying the staff. Interestingly, I found a SECOND Goblin Totem Staff in the War Chief's part of the cave. Did they steal it from other goblins? Either way I have two staves worth 7760 gold or decent but ugly weapons for a level 2 character...172.129.91.89 03:56, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
have just checked the Derelict Mine wiki page and apparently it's normal to find both staves there... oh well. the peaceful goblin thing is still interesting 172.129.91.89 03:59, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
If you kill the shaman of any tribe (excluding Biterfish) the rest of the goblins in that tribe essentialy become "zombies". They will not attck the player unless they are attacked first and they will only walk around the cave doing nothing. Drake, you probably continued to attack the goblins after the shaman died and that is why they attacked again. I do not know if they will attack anything else unprovoked. Three Feather Tribe[edit]

On the page it sais that there are two standard goblins guarding outside the cave of the three feather tribe. But when I am there with my characters, there are two no-tribe goblins and two three feather goblins, and they are fighting each other. Have anyone else seen this while playing? -Goblin lair 14:26, 27 october 2008

Yes i am outside plundered mine and there were two skirmishers outside part of no tribe. I went outside and they followed me but they started to fight the goblins inside. I am going to go out on a limb and assume this is an accident and they are meant to be part of that tribe? Anyone got an explanation? DMT 09:56, 1 March 2011 (UTC)

what if?[edit]

with the scripting in the ai that makes the goblins go after whoever has their staff would it be possible that if you left all of the goblin staffs in battlehorn castle they would join together and attack the castle? — Unsigned comment by 92.234.125.230 (talk) on December 24, 2008

Who knows. The way it is scripted now, they won't follow you, so we will never know. Vesna 21:40, 24 December 2008 (EST)
Even if you did manage to get members of all of the goblin tribes and their staves to battlehorn, due to the disposition between goblin tribe factions, they would fight each other rather than working together. It would end up being a war between goblins verses a war against goblins.Itaav 13:50, 27 March 2009 (EDT)

War Parties?[edit]

Has Anyone come across tribal goblins wandering outside of their perspective lairs? I ask this because I seem to remember stumbling across a pack of tribal goblins early in my game walking around. It struck me as being odd because they were walking single file. My character wasn't in any condition for a fight so let them march off on their merry way while I snuck off. How far will goblins wander when not in pursuit?

Also, while searching for an answer, the cultural and overview sections on goblins are flavor filled but don't really explain many in-game relationships regarding behavior with actual references or examples. Im more of a 'just the facts maam' kind of wiki reader. It seems those sections could use some trimming, maybe push some things to the Lore category.69.204.11.122 22:35, 15 March 2009 (EDT)

If the totem for a goblin tribe is not in that tribe's cave (I believe there's one in the wrong cave by default for the Goblin Trouble quest, but the others are initially in their correct place) then it's meant to be programmed into the game that they'll head off to retrieve it, regardless of where it is and regardless of what may stand in their way (this is even mentioned in the official guide, under the heading "Fun With Goblins"). Apparently, from what I've read on Goblins (the overview section) and various parts of the Goblin Tribe Wars talk page, this doesn't exactly work properly, though. --Dalimyr(TC) 23:15, 15 March 2009 (EDT)
I didn't do the quest, this weird little observance occurred outside Skingrad north of the graveyard where an Oblivion gate appears, well away from the Derelict Mine where the nearest goblin tribe resided.69.204.11.122 02:13, 16 March 2009 (EDT)
It fits in with my observation just recently. I just restarted Oblivion vanilla, though fully patched, and as part of building my new character I went to the Derelict Mine to hunt goblins. Went away a couple of game days, returning to find a lot of dead goblins I had not killed. There were of course Sharp Tooth goblins, but also some four-five dead White Skin Goblins there too.
Can it be in some way that the game has a White Skin goblin raiding party standing ready some halfway from their home in Goblin Jim's Cave to the Derelict Mine, maybe activated when you first approach their position, or something like that? 93.185.164.137 09:28, 13 June 2011 (UTC)
Indeed as I entered the Derelict Mine Second Zone through passage D I observed some goblins killing each other, and when the killing was finished one of the goblins came running triumphant at me, possibly to leave through the passage I had entered. I was sneaking, so he did not see me before I hacked my longsword in him, instantly killing him (as he was already low on health), and an object fell down: a Goblin Totem Staff. When I looked more closely at the goblin I had killed, it was a White Skin Goblin War Chief that had been carrying the Totem Staff. Seems to me it is definitively a Goblin War on there. 93.185.164.137 16:25, 13 June 2011 (UTC)
Sorry! Now I finally read the whole Talk:Goblins and found that the observation of the White Skins are note as uncommon as I thought. Sorry again for being so lazy before I posted! It still might have been the winning White Skin raiding party retreating though (or the oncoming one) that the OP had seen north of the graveyard? 93.185.164.137 16:32, 13 June 2011 (UTC)

White Skin inside of Derelict Mine[edit]

I entered Derelict Mine to level my blade on some sharp tooth goblins but when I entered the goblin chief's cell I saw a big goblin 'ball' fighting. The attackers were white skins. Now from what I understand goblin totems don't interest goblins outside of the Goblin Troubles quest. But seeing as how Goblin Jim's cave and Derelict Mine are so close together I can see how this is possible. Anyone feel like adding this to the article? I still have the save game before entering the cell in my unmodded and patched game if you don't believe me. — Unsigned comment by 174.42.189.248 (talk) on 7 April 2009

Oh I believe you, but it still shouldn't go on the article. A goblin might have followed you, it might just have strayed within range. As soon as they come close, the hatred between the tribes takes care of the rest. The reason it shouldn't go on is that it's so rare. If we put everything that might happen on the pages, they'd all be 100K long. It goes to show that it can happen though! –RpehTCE 14:03, 7 April 2009 (EDT)
The White Skin totem initially spawns inside Derelict Mine. Tribes will only go after other tribes if their staff is stolen. 68.32.250.200 16:07, 6 June 2009 (EDT)
This happened to me too, but under the following conditions. On my first visit to Derelict Mine, I killed all the goblins (including the shaman) and stole the totem (which I dumped in Dunbarrow Cove). Then on a later visit to Derelict Mine I was sneaking in invisible mode when suddenly a White Skin goblin appeared and started fighting with the Sharp Tooth goblins. When I looked on the lower level there was an all-out war going on between White Skins and Sharp Tooths. I assumed that with the Sharp Tooth shaman dead the White Skins decided on a takover war. - 21 June 2009 — Unsigned comment by 145.53.52.24 (talk) at 12:01 on 21 June 2009 (GMT)
When I went to Derelict Mine, all the goblins on the entire level, plus about 20 White Skins, were in a big circle around another totem (I had already gotten the Sharp Tooth's one). So I jumped in, recovered the new totem, and blasted the tattoos off well over 40 goblins (including shamans, war chiefs and tribleless goblins who somehow got down there) with my game-breaking God Mode spell, Death Bolt. 86.46.204.201 12:21, 21 June 2009 (GMT)
This just happened to me as well. I was walking around skingrad with an invisibility spell on and I saw a white skin goblin running up a path. I followed it to the derelict mine and explored the place while continuing to be invisible. There was a huge goblin battle going on in one part (like half a dozen white skins and 10 or so sharp tooth guys). Both war chiefs died in the battle and later I found a totem in the area. There was the regular tribe totem by the shaman later in the mine so I'm assuming that the white skin totem must spawn in there. Is this a random occurrence or is it like that in everyone's game? — Unsigned comment by 68.147.60.231 (talk) at 00:01 on 7 December 2009 (GMT)

() This also happened to me on all my different characters (10+). I dont think this just 'might' happen it always happens. I KNOW that no goblins could have followed me for I had no followers and 100% chameleon. But like what was previously said, I to found around 20 sharptooth, whiteskin and nameless/tribless goblins all 'ball' fighting around a totem — Unsigned comment by 4.252.209.166 (talk) at 04:05 on 24 September 2010 (GMT)

I have seen an entire war party of white skins walking up the hill to Derilect mine. I was not aware of their significance so I unfortunately killed them all :(. On a seperate occasion though, i entered Derilect mine with 100% chameleon in order to steal their staff, and I found an enourmous battle raging between a large group of White skins and Sharptooths, both Warlords where involved. The white skins won and TOOK the a staff (I do not know if it was the Sharptooths or the stolen whiteskins) and then left in the direction of their cave. I did not follow them long enough to watch them reach the cave unfortunately. These happened on 2 different characters, is this scripted to happen? if it is, this may be proof of goblin wars beyond goblin trouble. The grandest champion 00:31, 13 March 2011 (UTC)
Ok, I have looked somemore, and apparently the Whiteskin staff is scripted to Appear in derelect mine all the time, but that still does not explane why the Whiteskins went after it, even though multiple other sources declare that goblins will not go after their staf if it is farther than just outside the cave. The grandest champion 00:43, 13 March 2011 (UTC)
This has happened to me before too. I went into Derelict Mine on a low-level character and got wiped out by a giant group of fighting goblins (I blame the framerate). On another character I witnessed the White Skin war party moving in the direction of the mine, although they attacked me so I couldn't follow. I assumed this behaviour was already on the Goblin article, but apparently not. More research is definitely needed, but the basic outline of it seems to be coming into place. Legoless 01:13, 13 March 2011 (UTC)
I did not read as far as this section of the talk page before I described a similar observation in the just above here section "War Parties?". Feel free to move or remove it if it does not fit in where I placed it. 93.185.164.137 16:35, 13 June 2011 (UTC)

Staves Won't Show Up[edit]

I have this weird glitch where the totem staff in the Barren Mine won't show up at all. I've reloaded multiple times from saving outside of the cave, but can't get it to spawn. The lair is far from other goblin tribe lairs, and the War Chief's AI does nothing but wander around the cave, so I'm at a loss to explain what's going on.

I had a similar glitch happen with the Bloody Hand's staff: it would simply disappear once brought into their cave (they always managed to succeed with their raid). I eventually managed to fix this by killing the Bloody Hand War Chief in Timberscar Hollow, before he could get back to Cracked Wood Cave. 68.32.250.200 12:07, 4 June 2009 (EDT)

Update: I can't find the one in Wenderbek Cave, either. In case it means anything, I have the other 5 Goblin skulls in my house, and I have killed none of the tribal Goblin Shamans. I'm really confused as to why the goblin staves aren't showing up in my game. — Unsigned comment by 68.32.250.200 (talk) at 19:39 on 4 June 2009 (GMT)
Finally, I think I've determined part of the reason: Goblin Staves have the same placement problem as Ayleid Statues (the ones without the script to turn them in to Umbacano, at least) and the Talisman of Abetment does. Each time the cell they are in is loaded, the item has a chance to fall through the floor or start 'floating'. In my case, two of the Goblin Staves do this each time. 68.32.250.200 16:06, 6 June 2009 (EDT)
I can concur with the findings here. In my game, three totems seemingly failed to appear (in Wenderbek, Cracked Wood, and in a third lair but I don't recall which). In fact, the ONLY reason I even knew they were there at all was because I had Reynald and Guilbert as followers at the time under just the right circumstances, which proved to be workaround for this problem (I run the game on xbox).
If you enter a goblin lair with these gentlemen (and this might work with other followers) while one or both of them is weaponless (which will happen when their previous weapons breaks and they haven't acquired a replacement), as soon as combat initiates they'll make a beeline towards the nearest available weapon in the cell. The first time I saw this happen with the goblin totems was when I actually watched as one of the twins picked up a goblin totem from out of the floor where it was neither visible nor accessible to me. To manipulate them into doing this successfully, you may have to ask them to wait at or near the entrance of the lair while you go check things out. They'll only go for the totem if it's the nearest available weapon, so you need to make sure there's no other weapons lying around when you enter. This includes inside chests. Reynald and Guilbert apparently have X-ray vision. They can "see" weapons inside containers, and if they're weaponless and in combat, they'll run over to the chest but then they'll just stand there looking down at the chest helplessly as they can't seem to retrieve items inside containers (locked or not).
If a twin manages to successfully find and wield the totem, you have to let him keep using it until the charge runs down, at which point he'll stuff it into his inventory where it can be pickpocketed. Reynald and Guilbert will always do this with staffs of any kind once the charge runs out. They won't throw the staff to the ground as they do with melee weapons (presumably because the staff isn't actually broken, just out of juice). I was able to acquire all seven goblin totems thanks to these fellas as they were able to pick up the three totems I wouldn't have otherwise been able to acquire. — Unsigned comment by 50.33.161.177 (talk) at 06:04 on 12 November 2013 (GMT)

Goblin Gauntlets AKA Missing Name Gauntlets[edit]

Hello! I came here looking for information concerning the goblin's gauntlets that show up in the inventory menus as "<Missing Name> Gauntlets"s if I recall right. I'm not sure if a mod is allowing me to loot them or not from the various goblins that wear them, because they can also be found in and removed from the crate in the special warehouse(s) of Testing Hall. The crate that contains all apparel, including test items like "Erik's Test Gauntlets" and the unique like, "The Hood of the Apprentice", but not the elusive "Child's Overalls" for some reason unknown to me.

I often collect them and rename them after my character, i.e. "Buffy's Missing Name Gauntlets" and "Buffy's Goblin Gauntlets", via enchanting, or after the type of Goblin they were looted from, like a Bitterfish Goblin. However even with Armorer Skill 255 they can't be repaired. Trying to get a professional to repair them won't work either. (I perhaps should have mentioned to start with, that they always seem to me to be broken when looted or found in the crate.)

They can be equipped and worn though and placed on mannequins too, but on the mannequins they won't show up for me until I leave the room/cell and come back another day or so later.

What I'm looking for is a mod that somehow fixes these broken gauntlets. I've noticed that the so-called "Broken Shield" can be repaired to 125, but not the "Broken Sword", by the way, albeit both may be enchanted as desired. So why can't the goblin's gauntlets be repaired too? Or the Broken Sword for that matter? (Hmm. Oh, because of a certain quest, I guess for the sword.)

My advance thanks to anyone who can properly answer my question(s). Thank you very much! Leo Star Dragon 1 17:13, 18 February 2010 (UTC)

Are Goblin Warlords the most powerful creatures in the game?[edit]

I looked at the stats, and it seems that Goblin Warlords have the most health (30 * level) of any creature in the game. It seems that Warlords are the hardest enemy for me to kill. Does anyone else agree? — Unsigned comment by 174.102.125.117 (talk) at 15:04 on 12 July 2010 (GMT)

The Gatekeeper and Mehrunes Dagon are because they can beat any creature or NPC in a 1 on 1 fight followed by Jyggalag. Among generic creatures though yes Ogres and Goblin Warlords are the hardest, at higher levels they can easily slay most of the other leveled creatures due to their high Hp. They only lose to the special bosses mentioned above and occasionally to the leveled Clannfears that spawn in Arkved's Tower. At really high levels Gloom Wraiths seem to become invulnerable to melee attacks from many creatures. — Unsigned comment by 82.178.115.165 (talk) at 09:15 on March 15, 2011 (GMT)
There might be some NPC`s that is more powerfull then a goblin warlord, but most people (and creatures) are not able to kill one. --Archain 16:21, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
Ok I used to play the 360 version of this game few years ago but I recently got the PC version. I've been messing around with the console spawning various creatures and NPC's to watch them fight. Leveled creatures and NPC's will eventually beat any other creature or NPC that isn't leveled so I'll only talk about leveled enemies. Creatures gain more hp and damage per level than NPC's. Around level 30 or so Golden Saint guards can easily beat any creature but at high levels creatures have way more hp and damage and will easily slay several Saints. Golden Saints can beat all NPC's though so among NPC's they're the hardest. At high levels NPC's will never be able to beat creatures unless you give them overpowered gear like 100% reflect damage. Creatures that rely on spells(eg Liches) are not as strong at higher levels because the damage of their spells will eventually cap and their summons die easily whereas melee creatures continue to increase their damage. The second Gatekeeper and Mehrunes Dagon can kill any other being in the game at any level except each other(stalemate). When the Gaterkeeper uses the Throw spell on Dagon he appears to melt but he doesn't actually take damage. Jyggalag loses to Dagon and the Gatekeeper but he can kill anything else at any level, provided you spawn only 1 enemy at a time. If you spawn more than 1 he may get overwhelmed easily. Ogres usually kill Goblin Warlords but lose occasionally if the Goblin's weapon has a good enchantment and if the Goblin can get continuous knockdowns. Painted trolls give Ogres a tough fight and usually beat them unless the ogre corners the troll against a wall and doesn't allow it to retreat to regenerate. Gloom Wraiths can easily beat Liches but lose to all of the creatures above but at level 250 or so they become immune to melee attacks of all these creatures and will beat them. They still lose to the aforementioned Daedric bosses though. It's odd that mundane creatures like Ogres and Goblins are so strong whereas creatures and NPC's who by lore are meant to be very strong like all the lesser Daedra(including the Sunken One and Frostfire Glade boss), Liches, Mankar Camoran, Mannimarco, Umaril and even Jyggalag are rather weak. --Sundar 08:27, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
Interesting stuff - I imagine you had a lot of fun doing that testing too! Good to see you around again, incidentally. rpeh •TCE 09:02, 16 March 2011 (UTC)

Missing Goblin Totem Staves...[edit]

In regards to the 'missing goblin totem staff' problem that a couple of users have mentioned, I have experienced the same problem. I first noticed it when I went to Barren Mine, and then again at Wenderbek Cave. I was perplexed because I had wiped out four tribes and retrieved 4 totem staves before that without any problem whatsoever. I thought the staff at Barren Mine might have been taken by another tribe, but decided against that as the tribal raids are pretty much scripted (at least, it seemed that way to me).

I appreciated the remarks about the staves actually falling below the floor when the cell was loaded. I actually hadn't considered that because, as I said, that hadn't happened before Barren Mine. I would like to mention, though, that I have found a solution that is easier than using followers with broken weapons to retrieve the totem. In Wenderbek Cave, I rendered myself totally invisible through the chameleon effect and then crept through the main chamber casting "disintegrate weapon" on every goblin in sight. When my cloak wore off, all of the now unarmed goblins (including the war chief) freaked out and fled into a small room to the north where the totem wasn't even supposed to be located. Once I had caught up to them, I noticed that the war chief had retrieved the totem. Once the room was cleared, I simply took my coveted staff. I think this is better than using an ally because you don't have to worry about pickpocketing it once the charge is gone. Why steal from a friend when you can loot from an enemy?

I used this option and it works. If you have to just let a regular Goblin attack you till his weapon breaks and he will go get the totem to use. Revphi10 (talk) 23:15, 9 August 2015 (UTC)

where did these goblins come from?[edit]

I went inside Goblin Jim's cave for literally a minute, with no resistance (no one outside the cave) and I came out after "resting" (the waiting slider thing) for an hour inside the cave. I come out and about 4 white skin goblins are waiting for me. Is this scripted? I only read of one tribe on the page where they actually patrol the outside of the cave, and even if they do, how could I have missed them? Unless their patrol radius is really that far and I just happened to sneak by them. 207.6.248.79 08:38, 27 February 2011 (UTC)

All creatures whos killed will automaticly get back to life after 3 days. The 4 goblins outside had probably been killed 3 days ago and brought back to life while you slept. --Archain 16:01, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

NO Dwarven shields before level 6 and no chainmail shield (light iron shield) before level 4[edit]

I really get the idea that the following part is false:

The shield may be Leather, Steel, Chainmail, or Dwarven in quality, with equal chances of any of the four types at all levels. For those goblin berserkers who are encountered at all levels (e.g., tribal Goblin Berserkers and those at Odiil's Farm), this provides an opportunity for low level characters to obtain an unusually good quality shield (normally Chainmail and Dwarven quality shields are not seen until level 6; this allows them to be found starting at level 1).

I experimented quite a few times with this just to be sure. I´m level 4 on Xbox 360 with all patches installed (and off course no mods, even no DLC yet). I saved before entering a few different goblin tribe dungeons I never went in before. All berserkers (and skirmishers) never carried Dwarven shields (BUT as far as I can remember did carry light iron shields...). Weird stuff, but the light iron shield might actually be possible and legit since chainmail can spawn in certain middle- and upperclass houses from level 4. Berserkers did carry a leather and steel shield rather often, even light iron shields now and then as I said. The discussion page even does NOT have anyone noticing Dwarven shields spawning before level 6. The above text is just there without proper basis to base it on. — Unsigned comment by 85.145.210.183 (talk) at 17:27 on 17 June 2019‎

There is no "chainmail shield", the OB:Light Iron Shield is the name of the shield that belongs to that type of armor (see link). Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 19:14, 17 June 2019 (UTC)

White Skin - Goblin Jim tribe?[edit]

Could it be that the White Skin tribe takes its name from Goblin Jim, since GJ is their leader?--87.255.89.160 11:09, 8 December 2020 (UTC)
