Here's a curiosity about the Gray Fox. When talking to many people you're given the option to ask them about the Gray Fox. Well, they all say the same thing. One of their stament is: "I don't even think he is human", or something like it, I don't quite remember now. Well, that's really funny, considering we have many other races in Oblivion, he does not need to be human, like we real people. He could be an orc, argonian, elf etc. All those races are not human. They could say: "I don't even think he's from this world" instead.

They mean "human" as mortal. They think he has been alive for 300+ years, after all. 207.81.78.84
Well, considering that 3 of the races are Elves, and Elves are usually immortal (or just live for several thousand years), an Elven Gray Fox technically could have lived for over 300 years. Felindre 03:19, 30 July 2008 (EDT)

I think the part about immortality should be corrected. The former grey fox mentions to the PC mentions that there have been several grey foxes before making the PC the new gray fox. In fact, the "grey fox" is just an ordinary person who happens to be wearing the mask. The article should make mention of this, if this is correct.

[edit] Anvil citizen ~spoiler~

to those of you who have played the quest-line know that he is in fact the stranger in anvil and also knowing that the people coming here to look up information do not care what is displays as him and the stranger as being two different NPCs but rather what it is in the game and thus I sugest that "Anvil Citizen" is added to his factions

The faction information is not just a cosmetic label added to the NPC. It's information from the construction set that controls how the NPC behaves, so altering that information introduces factual errors. If, for example, someone were to ask a question about why the Gray Fox attacked them for no reason, the first thing I would want to do is open this page and check the Gray Fox's factions to figure out what his default disposition is towards other characters. If the information displayed here is not an accurate copy of the construction set statistics, then checking this page for that information is worthless.
This is also a question that has come up with almost all the Dark Brotherhood members (see Oblivion Talk:Dark Brotherhood#Members Section) because the developers did a lot of very strange things with the Dark Brotherhood faction (actually multiple factions). At some point all of the Dark Brotherhood NPC pages are going to have to be revised somehow, because editors have modified all of that faction information, too. I'm starting to wonder whether adding faction information and guild ranks to the NPC pages was more trouble than it's worth, if it's going to cause this much of a fuss just to even figure out what the facts are about each NPC's factions.
In my opinion, the faction information in the infobox should be an exact duplicate of the information in the construction set. If there are complications with the faction information, then those complications should be explained in the NPC's notes. If people have major issues with the construction set faction information, I'd rather have the entire faction box emptied and replaced with something like "See notes for information" than have incorrect facts added to the infobox. --NepheleTalk 11:54, 5 July 2007 (EDT)

[edit] Gray Fox's Class

For us 360 users, or people who don't have access to the construction set, what are the Major Attributes and Major Skills of the Gray Fox? Does he have a special class for himself, or does he just use the generic "Theif" Class?

If you study the page it says "Class: Gray Fox" he is his own. Since I am also a 360 user, I do not know what his major skills are. Good Luck on finding out. --Playjex 23:23, 10 August 2007 (EDT)
His class is called 'Gray Fox'.
  • The class's primary attributes are Personality and Agility, while it's specialization is Stealth. Major skills are Alteration, Illusion, Blade, Sneak, Light Armour, Mercantile and Speechcraft.
  • The Gray Fox's attributes are as follows: Str 95, Int 63, Wil 85, Agi 90, Spd 95, End 63, Luc 50, HP 235, Magicka 157, Fatigue 333.
  • He possesses a novice level targeted shock damage spell (Spark). Apprentice level shield spell (Defend), an apprentice level shock shield spell (Electric Shell), an apprentice level water walking spell (Sea Stride), an apprentice chameleon spell (Shadow) and an apprentice silence spell (Silence). He also possesses a custom invisibility lesser power (TGGrayCowlInvisibility).
--Saruuk 23:44, 10 August 2007 (EDT)
His class is also summarized with all of the other NPC Classes. --NepheleTalk 01:10, 11 August 2007 (EDT)
Hmm, that looks simpler than scrambling back and forth through the CS. Thanks for that. =) --Saruuk 01:18, 11 August 2007 (EDT)

[edit] Edit

I have added a bit of info linking the stranger and the Grey Fox. I saw on the "A stranger" talk page that it wasn't to be added there to avoid spoilers, but I think its fine to add it here.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Forlornhope (talkcontribs).

I'm going to go ahead and remove the information, as it actually is just as much of a spoiler here as on the other page. Players will have heard of the Gray Fox before "A Stranger" and are very likely to visit this page first, thereby making the extra bit of information a spoiler for further quests. --Eshe 14:09, 7 September 2007 (EDT)
I guess but there there's fact that if somebody looked him up on the wiki they would want to know who he is so in that case doesn't it make sense to have the information there? I mean its the users choice to look him up. I could be wrong tho this is my first edit on this truly amazing site. --Forlornhope
Well, following the existing Corvus Umbranox link (which is kind of a spoiler in itself, though probably less so) leads you to information about his identity as "A Stranger," so I think that's really sufficient. You do have a point though, it is the user's choice to go looking for information, but I think it's worth our time to avoid unnecessary spoilers just in case. --Eshe 02:17, 8 September 2007 (EDT)

[edit] Remove the Construction Set render?

On the bottom of the page there is an image of the Gray Fox taken from the Construction Set. I propose to delete this image as this is abundant now that there is an ingame screenshot of the Gray Fox. The Construction Set does not make detailed renders of characters and thus the result looks pixelated. --Timenn 15:36, 7 September 2007 (EDT)

I agree, Timenn. It's out of place now the images have been updated. --RpehTalk 17:41, 7 September 2007 (EDT)
Agreed. Deleted :) --NepheleTalk 03:07, 20 September 2007 (EDT)

[edit] Enchanted armor

Its written on the generic magic apparel page that he has some enchanted armor can you get it when you become the gray fox? 24.23.230.168

Nope. You just get the Gray Cowl of Nocturnal. –RpehTCE 06:00, 29 May 2008 (EDT)
You can steal it from him while hes sitting on the bench in Anvil Castle as A Stranger, only after you stole the elder scroll, though.--TrUeSnIpE Z 17:40, 5 July 2008 (EDT)
