[edit] Calipers
How many Calipers does it take to summon him and how long will it take?--Most Honored Listener 20:06, 10 June 2007 (EDT) He doesn't show up with a pile of calipers it has been remove from the wiki.--Most Honored Listener 12:33, 15 June 2007 (EDT)
What is the point of having searching for calipers in the "Location" of him is there any hard data to back this up??--Most Honored Listener 18:47, 14 July 2007 (EDT)
- Presumably it's there because M'aiq has three AI packages. One places him outside Leyawiin; one places him outside Anvil; and the third specifies that he is supposed to wander anywhere in Tamriel, and that his target is to find 20 calipers. I don't understand AI packages well enough to know how exactly the caliper target alters his behaviour, but there is "hard data" to back up the statement. --NepheleTalk 01:38, 30 July 2007 (EDT)
- I tried putting 100 calipers in one location, which was outside anvil. He didn't come even after about 48 hours.--Most Honored Listener 03:29, 30 July 2007 (EDT)
- Odd. I dropped about 50 just outside Leyawiin (I'd been collecting for Work is Never Done) and he turned up within a couple of hours. I imagine in your case he had just begun "Running to Leyawiin", so wasn't in a position to do the search and in mine he was already close to Leyawiin and began searching as soon as he arrived. --RpehTalk 03:44, 30 July 2007 (EDT)
- are you sure he wasn't just stopping by on his route without the calipers even being involved?--Most Honored Listener 04:01, 30 July 2007 (EDT)
- Positive. He stopped and picked them up one by one. --RpehTalk 04:14, 30 July 2007 (EDT)
- Ok now does he actually look for them or just wander around aimlessly until he finds one? The original implication of this was a way to "summon" him not have him stop by for a prolonged period.--Most Honored Listener 04:28, 30 July 2007 (EDT)
- I'm just telling you what I saw. I have no idea what it proves about the precise nature of his AI packages. --RpehTalk 04:50, 30 July 2007 (EDT)
- My guess is that he'll just seek out the nearest source of calipers, not the largest. And he'll stop once he gets 20. So in order to "summon" him, your best bet would be to go to one of the places you know he'll be, Anvil or Leyawiin, (or possibly anywhere along the road in between them, though his travel AI may take precedence over his searching AI, not sure on that one) and then leave a trail of calipers, one at a time, leading to the place you'd like him to go, keeping in mind that he'll stop at 20. 100 calipers in one place probably will be no more effective than just 1. --TheRealLurlock Talk 09:23, 30 July 2007 (EDT)

So instead of having it say that you can summon him with calipers just a simple note on his page saying that he wanders around collecting calipers is good enough. Or something along those lines.--Most Honored Listener 14:35, 30 July 2007 (EDT)
- The article does not say that you can summon M'aiq with calipers. It says "Outside Leyawiin, Anvil, or searching for calipers." I don't see that there is anything incorrect about that statement. If you would like to expand on it based upon this discussion, you are always free to do so. But I'm not sure why you're trying to debate a statement that is not included in the article. --NepheleTalk 14:50, 30 July 2007 (EDT)
- Back in June I think it did say that you could summon him and for some reason there is recent discussion about this.--Most Honored Listener 15:20, 30 July 2007 (EDT)
[edit] M'aiq ID
Does anyone know the ID of M'aiq? I'd like to spawn him, and talk to him.

[edit] M'aiq bugs
I've always found m'aiq outside of Leyawin, but sometimes when I talk to him he has no Rumors, even though I haven't spoken to him that day. When I reload the same save game he appears again but this time the Rumors topic is lit up. Grandmaster z0b 03:08, 4 June 2007 (EDT)
[edit] Running
Does anybody actually know where he runs to? (Assuming that they can keep up with him.) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Merco (talk • contribs).
- He runs between Leyawiin and Anvil. I must confess I've never run it with him but given that he always turns up outside one or the other, it seems a fair assumption that that's how he does it. --RpehTalk 02:10, 27 August 2007 (EDT)
- In a bored moment I tried to follow him but hit a snag: M'aiq is able to run beyond the invisible wall around the edge of the map. I followed him to a point just past Fathis Aren's Tower then he got spooked by some bandits and started running south, beyond the wall. Up until that point he'd stuck pretty faithfully to the road so I imagine if it wasn't for the bandits he'd have headed up to the Red Ring Road and then off on the Gold Road, but that's guesswork. --Rpeh•T•C•E• 13:11, 11 December 2007 (EST)
[edit] Class Changes

[edit] Extra grey line above "M'aiqs Phrases"
I have no idea how to fix it (: Could someone offer a helping hand? M'aiqM'aiq thinks talk serves no purpose. 05:57, 27 April 2008 (EDT)
[edit] Children
Interesting, the comment about the exclusion of children in Oblivion. I dont see why children could not have been included. In Shivering Isles, you can interact with Haskill, but weapons pass right through him. I would think that children could have been implemented in the game the same way. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 169.145.3.13 (talk • contribs).
- Ah, but that ruins the realism. Haskill at least has an excuse (he serves a Daedra lord). So, if kids are added to create more realism, then they are made invincible to reduce realism.... it's a never ending circle. Vesna 10:15, 4 June 2008 (EDT)
- Murder is murder. Why are people freaking out about kids when the game has you kill grown-ups? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.120.219.161 (talk • contribs).
- The devs figured it's easier to deal with a couple hundred gamer complains than face down a mob of thousands of angry parents (who never even played the game). Also, child murder/abuse is a much more immoral crime (nowadays) than normal murder. Vesna 14:26, 27 June 2008 (EDT)
- Bethesda went the other way in Fallout 3 (invincible kids) and it is odd to say the least. It's almost weirder to have a game that allows repeated grenading and shotgun blasting of a kid without consequence than to have child murder/abuse. Of course it's ok to shoot pets and innocent adults in the head.--DoubleGrande 05:03, 12 March 2009 (EDT)
- The reason why, in my opinion, that kids were in FO3, was because Bethesda knew that fans would be outraged if things present in all the other games were removed. They were walking on thin ice with all of the hardcore fallout 1/2 fans, and they knew it. If they screwed up and did something wrong and one of them took notice, it would spark an outrage against the large fallout fanbase. So basically, the only reason they did it in FO3 was because the fans would RAAAAAAGE if they didn't.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 67.234.122.23 (talk • contribs) on 21 June 2009.

[edit] Maiq loves wine?
From many posts of M'aiq's "Schedual", i didn't see anything about skingrad. But rarely, i would see him standing outside Skingrad. Not much, but i've seen him there. I'm on the 360 version, so mods or anything couldn't have effected him. Anyone else see this?
- If you have your speed fortified above 100 you can actually follow him between the cities. I've followed him almost all the way to Skingrad from Anvil before and from Leyawiin past Pell's Gate, so I'd imagine you could randomly meet him along the road with the right timing.--DoubleGrande 05:06, 12 March 2009 (EDT)
[edit] Keep track of M'aiq (by M'aiq the Liar himself)
Quite easy. simply duplicate about 200 calipers and drop them all in one go. Since he lacks the ability to select 20 to pick up, he collects them all and is over encumbered. Very useful if you want to hear his fantastic phrases and know where to find him. If you goad him into following you, you could even keep him in your house!
[edit] Bravil?
Seeing as my edit has sneakily been undone and I simply can't be bothered getting into an edit war, I'll be blunt. Where's this mention of M'aiq travelling to Bravil coming from? M'aiq has a simple script and 3 AI packages. He runs from Anvil to Leyawiin, and from Leyawiin to Anvil (which covers two AI packages and the script) and he searches for calipers (which covers the other AI package). Because he quite faithfully follows the roads (unless there are bandits on the path, whom he'll flee from), he'll pass Bravil on his way to Anvil/Leyawiin, but he doesn't travel there. I fast-travelled to the stables outside every city and back to Bay Roan Stables and never saw him there once (though I did see him outside both Anvil AND Leyawiin, which in all honesty I wasn't quite expecting). I even followed him on his run, starting from Leyawiin. I got a bit bored after we'd reached Skingrad, but by that point we'd long since passed Bravil. I can't see anything in the CS that suggests he will intentionally travel to and/or stop at Bravil, nor do I recall ever seeing him outside Bravil (not that I make regular visits there myself, to be fair) during my little bit of testing or through general play over the countless hours I've racked up on the game. --Dalimyr(T ≈ C) 20:29, 23 March 2009 (EDT)
- Sorry about that. I was just re-adding the Bug. I'm not sure how the Bravil thing got put back; I used the "edit" tab at the top of the page. However it happened, I fixed it. --Debatra 22:06, 23 March 2009 (EDT)
[edit] Purpose? [Moved]
- Moved from the main article.
This isn't a phrase but why is M'aiq the Liar even there in the game? He doesn't do anything but get calipers, and runs between Anvil and Lewaiin.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.214.44.117 (talk • contribs) on 03:24, 28 July 2009 (UTC).
