Frozen Glitch[edit]

I came across a glitch where, when I would speak to Molag Bal after completing the quest, the game would essentially not progress and I'd be stuck standing still, only able to turn, and I wouldn't receive my reward or the completion of the quest. After MANY attempts at trying to fix this issue, I gave up and decided to use the console to progress the quest instead; however, I found that even though it updates my Fame when I view it on the console view "getav fame" on my self, it did not update in my menu screen when I check my Fame. Is there any way I can fix this? I tried refreshing and reloading my save, and even gaining additional Fame points after that, but my menu will always show 1 less than what it really is. Any suggestions would be great. --173.181.104.160 12:30, 10 July 2011 (UTC)

Killed before the quest[edit]

I killed Melus Petilius before I got the quest. there's a quest marker pointing to where he had died but his body has already dissappeared. is there a way to complete the quest? i play on the xbox — Unsigned comment by 50.113.130.9 (talk) at 00:32 on 8 March 2012

No. --Gaebrial 13:28, 17 January 2012 (UTC)

Melus Petilius won't pick up the mace[edit]

I've reload my game over a dozen times, each time I drop the mace at the wife's grave, clock him while he's mourning, and then he says his line and starts punching me. Never picks up the mace. Is there anything i can do about that. (Playing on PC.) — Unsigned comment by 50.113.130.9 (talk) at 05:32 on 8 March 2012

Don't drop the mace on the grave - drop it between Melus and the tombstone, or directly in front of him. It has to be in his line of sight. Kitkat TalkContribE-mail 05:38, 8 March 2012 (UTC)
nope, that doesn't work. Any workarounds? 166.137.90.59 19:25, 24 March 2015 (GMT)
Yeah, very frustrating. I went through this myself. Give him the mace by clicking on him and entering in console 'additem 26f98 1'. You also have to set two quest variables by entering 'set damolagbal.hasmace to 1' and 'set damolagbal.maceequip to 1'. You can check the status of the variables by entering sqv damolagbal. 174.17.2.204 05:39, 7 May 2021 (UTC)

Molag Bal Messing with my State Variables?[edit]

This is a curious problem that crops up after stage 40 (same as the "Frozen Glitch" above.)

I can engage with Petilius and setstage DAMolagBal 60 & stopcombat, travel back to the shrine, tap it, and get "Well, it seems you've accomplished the task set out for you. Well done. Another man damned. Another ruined soul." And that's it, nothing else, no "But, you'll still get your prize, won't you?" I'm left hanging with no player controls enabled.

The same thing happens no matter how this stage is reached.

The DAMolagBalStatueScript script looks like it had a debug put in with ;MessageBox "PLAYING LAST AUDIO AND GIVING JOURNAL"

elseif ( GetStage DAMolagBal == 60 ) && ( DAMolagBal.maceequip == 1 ) if ( MolagBalSpeech == 6 ) DisablePlayerControls ;PLAY END AUDIO ;MessageBox "PLAYING LAST AUDIO AND GIVING JOURNAL" set timer to DAMolagBalShrineREF.say DAMolagBalSpeech 1 DAMolagBalVoice 1 set MolagBalSpeech to 7 elseif ( MolagBalSpeech == 7 ) ;PLAY END AUDIO ;MessageBox "PLAYING LAST AUDIO AND GIVING JOURNAL" set timer to DAMolagBalShrineREF.say DAMolagBalSpeech 1 DAMolagBalVoice 1 set MolagBalSpeech to 8

If I teleport to the shrine and talk to NPCs, *all* the dialog options with NPCs have turned bright. e.g. a Khajit can't remember if I asked whether she was a khajiit before.

Does anyone know what is happening here?

The good news is, if I advance the quest to 100, the quest completes, and everything appears to be back to normal. Lmstearn (talk) 16:13, 5 September 2013 (GMT)

Reverse Pickpocket is bugged?[edit]

I reverse pickpocket the mace onto him, then let him kill me with it, but the quest fails because "he didn't use the mace". I went so far as purge all his items (removeallitems), then reverse pickpocket the mace, then forcing him to equip it (equipitem). And still failure. Anyone else? --178.66.39.103 11:58, 2 August 2020 (UTC)

You don't need to do all that, just drop the mace in front of him and he should pick it up when he turns hostile. —Legoless (talk) 14:44, 2 August 2020 (UTC)

Petilius lost most of his health[edit]

A strange thing happened to me while provoking Petilius. Once everything was set I provoked him using a custom touch drain fatigue spell I used to provoke Arvena Thelas' rats to train skills like blocking. In any case it worked in provoking him but most of his health disappeared, interesting part was that healing spells could not remove the damage as they would only restore any other damage he took but he could not return to full health. Is this an effect of the cursed mace? But if so I never noticed it before.
