Wording on Article[edit]

"Therefore, Paralyze effects only last for a few seconds." I suggest either adding usually to that sentence or removing it. I've got a spell that paralyzes the target for 20 secs. True, it drains about 65% of my mana, but in those 20 seconds it can regenerate almost fully (with a high enough Willpower). You can actually keep one target constantly paralyzed easily (provided you have high Illusion) Lisan al Gaib 09:58, 16 January 2007 (EST)

Weapons with Paralyze Effect[edit]

You cannot enchant weapons with paralyze, but every once in a while you may find a random NPC with a weapon that has this enchant (although it's very rare).

Mellee-fighting an NPC that has a weapon like this can be quite humorous (or annoying), since you'll pretty much spend the entire time lying on the ground until the weapon runs out of charges. After the battle, KEEP THE WEAPON, you will not be able to recreate it using an altar of enchanting. Regardless of its level/damage, it can be quite useful and fun. — Unsigned comment by 98.197.15.51 (talk) at 00:25 on 28 August 2007

While there are two randomly-found weapons with the paralyze effect (Oblivion:Generic Magic Weapons#Paralyze), neither of those weapons are included in any of the leveled lists used to equip NPCs. So unless you're using a third-party mod, I don't see how it is possible to encounter a NPC that has a paralyze weapon. --NepheleTalk 01:33, 1 September 2007 (EDT)
Actually many of the Dremora (wich count as NPCs) have paralyze weaponry (Quintessence of Remorse).--Willyhead 06:41, 1 September 2007 (EDT)
Aha, thanks for the pointer, Willyhead :) I forgot about the enchanted Dremora weapons! That explains everything, then. --NepheleTalk 14:12, 1 September 2007 (EDT)
Hehe no problem ;)--Willyhead 15:34, 1 September 2007 (EDT)
Some may not agree but i find paralize weapons useless, because of their low uses by the time you've killed someone with it, half if not all of it's charges are used, unless there is a weapon with paralize and damage or very high amount of uses then it is not that effective, apart maybe the staff of paralyzing burst. — Unsigned comment by Dadrak (talkcontribs) at 20:35 on 18 April 2009

() Can a person be pickpocketed while paralyzed? Could you take their weapon and armor? — Unsigned comment by 24.45.87.34 (talk) at 17:52 on 14 October 2007

No you can't. But doesn't Volendrung have paralyze? — Unsigned comment by 92.29.111.112 (talk) at 20:50 on 6 January 2010
I'm pretty sure you can pickpocket a paralyzed person, see The Infinite money glitch involving paralyzing someone. MikeTalk 14:05, 13 June 2010 (UTC)
I confirm, I paralyzed Baurus in the sewers in the Path of Dawn quest, and I could talk to him *and* pickpocket him (I thus got 16 gold, 3 Strong Potions of Healing and 1 Ale) ; so to answer your question, you probably can't steal their equipment (haven't tried on anybody else, really), but you can still pickpocket. 82.233.121.17 17:50, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
You indeed cannot pickpocket anything the person has equipped. Talk Wolok gro-Barok Contributions 14:49, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

Paralyze Drag[edit]

Is it possible to drag a paralyzed NPC? — Unsigned comment by Merco (talkcontribs) at 15:14 on 28 March 2008

No. I tested this on mudcrabs and adoring fan, and they wouldn't budge, although I don't see any point in dragging them when you could use those few seconds to finish them off. --TheTamrielTerror 01:42, 20 June 2008 (EDT)
No, but you can blast them (off cliffs, into lava, down pits the AI is too dumb to escape) with Weak Fireball or something like that. -- Scezumin 06:36, 3 January 2009 (EST)

Items falling through the ground[edit]

When I paralyzed a guard and killed him while he was still paralyzed, his shield sometimes fell through the ground when the shield was under his body. The "corpse" of a wraith would also fall through the ground if it was killed while paralysed (I used goldbrand to kill it). Has anyone else experienced these? --TheTamrielTerror 10:48, 19 June 2008 (EDT)

I also experienced this. It seems if you paralyze an enemy, they retain their weapon as they fall to the ground. If they are killed while falling, they die with a firm grasp on the handle. This is a problem because the weapon cannot be taken off the ground and when they are searched it is not in their inventory.

Duration?[edit]

Whats the maximum duration for this spell effect at spellmaking altars?218.215.66.132 00:25, 4 July 2008 (EDT)

Maximum duration is 120 seconds, same as any other effect. But good luck finding enough Magicka to cast a 120 second Paralyze spell: even for a master of illusion, it costs 1140 Magicka. --NepheleTalk 01:09, 4 July 2008 (EDT)
Thank you!218.215.66.132 23:21, 5 July 2008 (EDT)
TGM is your friend. But if you're a console player, then you're going to need many Magicka boosts. — Unsigned comment by 92.29.111.112 (talk) at 20:53 on 6 January 2010

Cannot resist weapon attack paralysis[edit]

I have both Resist Magic 100% and Resist Paralyze 100% (Breton, Mundane Ring, Ring of Vitality), and I still get paralyzed by NPCs that use their power attacks on me. When that happens, I bring up my spell effects menu and it shows a "Paralyze: Marksman" effect. I also get paralyzed for a really long time... easily 10+ seconds. Can someone actually confirm that expert level weapon attacks are actually resisted? I have no problems resisting the Spider Daedra summon's paralyze spells. ZirePhoenix 23:21, 2 January 2009 (EST)

The Paralysis delivered by a Master-level weapon attack is applied to your character as an Enchantment, not as a Spell or Poison. This is how the paralyzing power of the attack bypasses those defenses. Your report tells us that even Resist Paralysis cannot overcome a Master attack, and the information on that particular article should be reviewed.—Dark Spark 15:48, 3 January 2009 (EST)
I believe the mastery power attack apply paralyze actually by making you cast a paralyze spell on self ( somehow ). Once, my illusion skill was at 5, the goblin warlord used his power attack on me and paralyzed me AND my illusion skill actually went up at the same time. That time i was playing as warrior and had no intention on using illusion spell. — Unsigned comment by 117.4.244.192 (talk) at 03:51 on 9 January 2011

Permanently Paralyzed Dead Creatures and NPCs[edit]

(Following entry moved here from Oblivion:Glitches/Proposed)

This glitch will cause a dead creature or NPC to be stuck in a paralyzed state instead of a ragdoll state.

In order to do this, you will need to be able to paralyze a target as well as damage a target's fatigue to below zero. First, damage the target's fatigue until they drop to the ground in a ragdoll state. This means that their fatigue is below zero. When the target starts to stand up, damage the target's fatigue with an effect that happens over time, then quickly paralyze the target. A longer paralyze effect is more useful in this case. The target's fatigue must drop below zero while the target is paralyzed. If done properly, the target will remain paralyzed for as long as its fatigue is below zero. If you kill the target during this time, it will remain permanently paralyzed. Then you can enjoy bouncing the dead paralyzed body around with an area effect spell.

Just to let you know, that glitch occurs whenever you kill and paralyze a creature or NPC at the same time. Say you have Master skill level of Blade, and you're holding a non-enchanted sword. You attack a someone/thing with a forward power attack, it gets paralyzed and dies on the same hit, it has the same effect.

I just made a comment about my experience with this glitch on "Tyrellius Logellus" page. I thought it was a glitch with that NPC, but perhaps it is a general game-wide glitch. Long Story short, in the Two Sides of the Coin quest, Tyrellius is waiting to interact with you at one point. If you get close enough to him while he is waiting, he starts moving towards you. If you move away from him at that point, he will follow you anywhere. I lead him up to the watchtowers within Cloud Ruler Temple and hit him with a 4-second Paralyze spell before he could speak to me. He became permanently paralyzed. I did not otherwise hit him or cast a spell at him, so your idea about reducing fatigue to zero prior to casting paralyze may not be accurate. Or maybe it is accurate and there are just multiple ways to generate this glitch. I think the glitch has something to do with Paralyze more than anything else. 169.145.3.13 16:26, 2 June 2008 (EDT)

NPCs Fall Apart In A Puddle Of Them Selves![edit]

(Following moved here from Oblivion:Glitches/Proposed)

I did this on the Xbox 360 so, it may not work for PC. I killed an NPC then revived with the staff of worms and paralyzed them with a paralyze spell and waited. I did this repeatedly and the NPC fell apart! Can someone explain whats happening?

I just made a comment about my experience with this glitch on "Tyrellius Logellus" page. I thought it was a glitch with that NPC, but perhaps it is a general game-wide glitch. Long Story short, in the Two Sides of the Coin quest, Tyrellius is waiting to interact with you at one point. If you get close enough to him while he is waiting, he starts moving towards you. If you move away from him at that point, he will follow you anywhere. I lead him up to the watchtowers within Cloud Ruler Temple and allowed him to start a dialogue with me. That meant we would fight when he was done speaking. At the start of combat I hit him with a 4-second Paralyze spell. He got up and continued to fight normally, but when he died, he "melted" over the screen. What I mean is, he left a smear of graphics from the point where he hit the ground to the point where he stopped rolling down the Watchtower walkway. When he stopped rolling, at the bottom of this screen "melt" was a pile of body parts - head, hands, feet - that you could pickup separately. This was on the 360 as well.
So I don't think the Staff of Worms had anything to do with it.. I think it is Paralyze that has the glitch. Perhaps Paralyze cast on NPCs who are defined a certain way will activate this error.
169.145.3.13 16:33, 2 June 2008 (EDT)
When playing Oblivion on the Xbox 360,I found a very strange glitch. When you reanimate a dead NPC with the Staff of Worms cast a Paralysis spell on them and wait they will stay in their paralyzed state but dead. If you do this repeatedly the NPC will melt in to a puddle themselves. In this state you can still grab the head, hands, and feet. They seem to be infinitly strechable. And when you save a game next to a melted NPC the game will fix them when you reload the save game, sometimes it fixes them by throwing them up in the air.
I've also encountered this bug, but on the PC, with Priest of Order from SI and absolutely without Staff of Worms. I've changed the enchantment from the Nerveshatter to contain effects of Absorb Health 15 pts, Absorb Magicka 25 pts and Paralyze for 1 sec. When I've killed the Priest with that weapon, then been messing around long enough for him to revive, and then killed him once more, he started to doing this: [1] [2] [3] [4] - ZuTheSkunk 02:31, 27 May 2010 (UTC)
Without the staff of worms absolutely but you did it on a character that basically reanimates itself. Datacaust 03:30, 15 April 2011 (UTC)

Blasting paralyzed people off cliffs[edit]

Do paralyzed people take damage if you blast them off cliffs and they fall a long way? --99.237.118.215 16:47, 25 July 2010 (UTC)

Yes. --Rigas Papadopoulos • Talk to meMy work 05:57, 9 October 2010 (UTC)

Enchanting with paralyze spells[edit]

So I know you cant put paralysis on weapons, but can you enchant clothes with paralyze spells to make a cursed enchanted item? — Unsigned comment by 173.200.102.153 (talk) at 18:16 on June 25, 2011

Offensive
(No enchanting)
Says that right at the beginning of the page, so no. --Pickle 23:19, 25 June 2011 (UTC)

Non-visible presence?[edit]

(moved from the article)

If a character or creature becomes paralyzed in mid-air, their non-visible presence will fall to the ground instantly, outside of their visible body. This is true for the player.

What on earth does this mean? rpeh •TCE 04:59, 29 July 2011 (UTC)
o.O ......... WHAT?! I'm sorry but... I say again, WHAT?! o.O I have no idea what this is supposed to mean.--Kalis AgeaYes? Contrib E-mail 05:08, 29 July 2011 (UTC)
I think it refers to something I have encountered as well, when immobilized while falling, the player seems to lose sync. It seems that you fall normally, taking fall damage, but the image of your body takes longer to fall. Not sure how the engine would do this but I tried this for a while once on the big bridge outside the Talos Plaza District with a Damage Fatigue on Self. It is easier to see in person... --DKong27 Tk Ctr Em 05:11, 29 July 2011 (UTC)

Paralyze Article Notes Inclusion (Mage's Staff)[edit]

Anybody else think it may be a good idea to include in the article's notes section that one of the best ways to become a mage who takes advantage of the costly paralyze spell/effect, is to make a Staff of Paralysis when you are given a choice of which staff to make as an apprentice in the Mages Guild and finishing the quest, "A Mage's Staff"? I think it should be there because I and many of you I'm sure, agree that it's the wisest choice to make when choosing which staff you make. =) — Unsigned comment by D. Gemini (talkcontribs) at 12:54 on September 2, 2011

It says in there:
"Paralyze is one of the enchantments available for making a custom mage's staff (it is also found on random generic staves). However, it is not possible to make enchanted weapons with Paralyze at the Enchanting Altar."
This makes it known that it is one way to possess the effect. The choice of a staff is personal anyway. --DKong27 Tk Ctr Em 05:24, 3 September 2011 (UTC)
Ahh, I didn't see that in the notes since there are so many. --D. Gemini 19:35, 3 September 2011 (UTC)

Permanent Paralysis 'missing name' spell[edit]

So I play the Pc GOTY edition of oblivion and I used the unlock all spells cheat in the command console. I found a spell called <missing name> that engages a "scripted effect" for 4000 feet, I used it and it paralyzed everyone in that section of imperial city (I thought it was pretty nifty at first) but now I've noticed that there are still important quest npc's lying around on the pavement, and I can't figure out how to un-paralyze them. — Unsigned comment by 96.42.253.178 (talk) at 11:45 on 18 October 2012‎
