Oblivion talk:Resist Normal Weapons

I just tested spell making with this effect, and no luck. I tried both the Altar of Spellmaking and the Altar of Enchanting while wearing a "Resist Normal Weapons Quilted (Doublet)" (the doublet doesn't actually appear on the screen because the name is so long). My character has 77 Restoration, which presumably is large enough to be able to access this effect if it were available. But Resist Normal Weapons did not appear in the list of available effects. So I changed the page accordingly. --Nephele 21:49, 24 July 2006 (EDT)

[edit] 100% RNW

It is possible to achieve 100% Resist Normal Weapons in the game, if one has the Mehrunes' Razor official plugin, but one must be willing to be a full vampire.

Within vanilla Oblivion there are three items of interest which go towards the RNW bonus:

The Hands of Midnight (10% RNW) which can be acquired from the Cheydinhal Sanctuary.

The Greaves of Resilient Flesh (11% RNW) which are random loot.

The Ring of Steelskin (13-15% RNW) which is random loot and comes in regular and Grand varieties.

Combine these with a full vampire character (20% RNW) and one already has 54-56% RNW with one ring, or 67-71% with two. This is where the two plugins come in.

Mehrunes' Razor loot:

The Morag Tong Cuirass confers 25% RNW.

The Bladeturn Hood confers 15% RNW.

Now one has anywhere from 94-111% RNW, depending on how many Steelskin rings one has found, and whether identical Steelskin rings can stack.

There are also artifacts in the Knights of the Nine plugin that confer RNW, but the Morag Tong Cuirass is better at it than the Cuirass of the Crusader, and the Greaves of the Crusader are not *supposed* to have this enchantment. One level of them does, as per a bug in the plugin. Exploiting this bug gives one a +4% RNW advantage over the Greaves of Resilient Flesh, allowing one to have 100% RNW using only one ring (the Grand Ring of Steelskin), or to have 95% RNW with two Grand Rings of Steelskin if one does not wish to be a vampire.

Thanks for assembling all this information. I've gone ahead and put the information into the main article. One minor correction is that it is not possible to wear two identical steelskin rings at the same time (and I added a section to the Generic Magic Apparel page with the details on that). So the maximum possible values are 2% lower than those that you came up with. --Nephele 14:45, 6 January 2007 (EST)

[edit] Ghosts Can Be Damaged by Fists

I can damage ghosts by punching them. When I encounter a ghost and my weapon has no effect on it, I simply unequip my weapon and start punching the ghost. I was able to kill all the ghosts in Benirus Manor this way. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jargon (talkcontribs).

What's your hand-to-hand skill? According to Hand to Hand once your skill reaches 50, you can indeed damage ghosts and other RNW creatures with your fists. --Nephele 01:18, 12 January 2007 (EST)

[edit] Ring of Steelskin

The level requirement for the Grand Ring of Steelskin is lower than posted. I found it at 16, but I'm not sure what the requirement is.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 64.83.229.74 (talkcontribs).

Yes, there were a few mistakes in the levels listed for the rings on this page. They have been fixed. In particular, the level requirement for the Grand Ring of Steelskin is 14. --NepheleTalk 15:24, 28 July 2007 (EDT)

[edit] Arrows and Bow, or arrows or bow?

Do you need silver arrows and a bow to harm ghosts? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 76.19.155.125 (talkcontribs).

Silver bow, or silver arrows. You do not need both. =) IWon'tFightUndead 20:13, 11 November 2007 (EST)

[edit] Combat Training

Do attacks nullified by RNW count towards Blunt, H2H, or Blade experience? If so, you could punch a ghost over and over, even tape down the attack key, and your skills can go up without having to change to a new target. You could get magic resistance or chameleon so that you won't die while you're fighting. Colovian 21:40, 9 February 2008 (EST)

No they dont count toward our melee skills its just a defensive spell like shield or resist fire/frost. Umbacano 10:15, 19 February 2008 (EST)
