[edit] Bug
On the Xbox version, I've encountered a bug where Agarmir seems to never leave his house. The error occured on two different characters. I tried waiting outside his house one hour at a time for a total of 48 hours, as well as whiling away a good 20 minutes of real time running around the plaza, but he doesn't leave. -- Del 17:25, 21 July 2006 (EDT)
Yeah I had this too, but once I looked to the left I could suddenly enter. Don't ask me why. - Thingey
[edit] Reward
I think the quest rewards vary by level because my ring wasn't as good I believe, but I can'd verify. Anyone? --MItchy 01:34, 27 March 2006 (EST)
Endareth 01:21, 27 March 2006 (EST) Weatherward Circlet was what I received also, did this around level 10.
Oh that was the name of the thing yeah, but I could've sworn it was onlt 10%, I did this quest at level 1. --MItchy 01:34, 27 March 2006 (EST)
I did this quest at level 1 or 2 and I got the 25% ring --Merlin 03:23, 27 March 2006 (EST)
I created a new character and did this quest at level 1, the ring was 10%, and Debaser drains Willpower and Endurance for 5 pts for 20 sec on strike.
I did it again with a level 6 character and the ring was 15% and the Gold reward was 200gp Grim Retort did 10pts of frost damage. --MItchy 11:03, 29 March 2006 (EST)
I had to follow Thoronir to the pub and wait for 2 hours before he walked to the garden. -DavidC
- I had this problem as well, so i'm adding it to the page. - Crazymoon
- Another example of how awkward the "intelligence" in Oblivion is. I watched Thoronir and Agarnir the whole night with nothing happening. The quest logic is clearly inferior and makes me not want to play the game. FMan 12:10, 17 May 2006 (EDT)
GOTY: oblivion xbox 360. i waited for Thoronir and Agarnir in the gardens for 30mins, bt nothing happens wot so ever!! helpppppp
- Sounds like you need to read the first bug on the page. That sounds like your problem. --RpehTalk 09:25, 28 September 2007 (EDT)
[edit] there is a problem or error with this quest plz help
when i get the the point where i go into agrmir house to see the shovel and manifest the police comes to the house and try to arrest me ! isnt this a quest and the police shouldnt come? also when i choose resist arrest and i run to armando or whatever the guy from the theives guild who give me the option to pay him and he clear my criminal recored .. i pay him and go but when i meet police i am still being chased even when i go back to that guy from the theives guild i find that my criminal records are really clear then why am i being chased so i am stuck ! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ramymounir (talk • contribs).
- Being on a quest doesn't generally give you the license to commit a crime... you still need to sneak when you're breaking into a house. I'd suggest when the guards start chasing, yield to them (put away any weapons, hit the block key, and talk to them). They're probably chasing you at this point because you resisted arrest, not because you have a bounty any more. --Nephele 19:42, 17 September 2006 (EDT)
[edit] Another Bug
After I did the battle and talked to Thoronir, I tried to get my reward from Jensine. She didn't give it to me. After the conversion, She kept telling me that I was suppose to give her something. From a pervious play I knew she was suppose to get the journal and shovel during the conversion. But this didn't happen and I can't give her the items from my inventory. It does show them when your talking to her. You try dropping them it tells you you can't drop quest items.
[edit] Not a bug
I had this same problem! It's not a bug though, but an interface issue. When you talk to Jensine there's a "Thoronir" conversation option but you have to scroll down the list of options to see it. (Look for the scroll-bar on the left: instead of just two arrows, there will be a grabbable box on the bar connecting the arrows.)
This drove me insane for a few hours. I thought it was a script bug. I got pretty good at defeating Agarmir after trying a dozen different orders in which to complete each stage of the quest. —"Tobias" the Bosmer monk (24.80.186.47 00:43, 15 December 2006 (EST))
omg!! thanks so much, ive been lookin all over for some info on this issue, i thought it was a bug too. i thinck id never figured it out. thanks u rule!!!!!!
I can see "Thoronir" topic instead (using a modded UI), but once I click there, nothing happens: she just says that it's better for him (Thoronir) to have no knowledge about where his goodies come from, otherwise guards will have his head, but I get no reward from her, being stuck in the "don't you have something for me?" ending dialog. I've followed step by step the main page about this quest, but looks like the only way I can complete it is via console. On a side note, I've met the "Agarmir is essential" bug too, and in order to procede the quest I've tried both workarounds described in that section, but still no luck with my ending reward from Jansine, so I decided to stop feeling pain using the console: "setstage MS29 150" to complete the quest, "SetQuestObject 0001D0AF 0" to get rid of the shovel, "SetQuestObject 0001D046 0" to get rid of the book. (Hope being usefull, sorry for my eniglish)
[edit] Agarmir, etc
He never left the house. but you know he isn't there because when you go up to the door it will tell you it is barred from the inside if he is home.
My problem is I can't get Calliben's Grim retort. I think I can see it back there but no matter how I jump I can't grab it. I'm on a PC.
[edit] Bug: Agarmir is essential
I don't know how, but when I got to the mausoleum, Agarmir was essential, making it impossible to finish the quest (or get out of the mausoleum). I don't have any of the mods that make him essential part of the time, so I have no idea how he got that way. I eventually fixed this with "SetEssential 0001fc54 0" in the console, a command which incidentally is not on the Oblivion:Console page. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.206.49.151 (talk • contribs).
I'm moving this similar comment here from the main article:
- Sometimes, for unknown reasons, Agarmir doesn't stop being an essential NPC (i.e. he can not be killed) as you enter the mausoleum. After you have killed the hireling and struck Agarmir unconscious, he will not attack you when he stands up again. If you talk to him he will have the same monologue as earlier, but after it he will not attack you. You will have to take the shovel and then pickpocket him for the mausoleum key in order to get out. You can then take the shovel to Thoronir and go on as you usually would to complete the quest.
Agarmir is never an essential NPC, so I don't see what would trigger these bugs. Without any explanation for how this bug could occur, I don't think it belongs in the main article. Documenting random, unreproducible bugs doesn't help readers, because it's impossible to provide advice on what to do to avoid the problem. --NepheleTalk 03:53, 2 August 2007 (EDT)
This "random" bug happened to me too eheh, my very humble advice is just to put that SetEssential info on a note in the main page. Anyway I'm looking for the cause of the bug. If I catch it I'll post the solution with pleasure :)
[edit] Sneak Mode
Make sure you're in Sneak mode when picking Agarmir's door. Otherwise, the guards will bust you.
[edit] Can't Return to Tomb
Okay, I messed up and struck Aragmir first... a guard rushed in and hauled me off to jail and now the Trentius tomb will not open and says I can only open it with a key. If anyone knows where I can find this key... or is this now unfinishable. Thanks. What I don't get is if the door was locked behind me... how did the guard know I hit him first. haha
The same thing happenede to me. I couldn't kill him so I shot him in the head thinking I could do 3x damage....didn't work. I got hauled off, now, 20 hours later I return to finish the quest and I can't get back in. Is there a way to cmomplete the qest? Some magickal spell? Please help.
- Sorry but unless you're on the PC I think you're out of luck (if you're on the PC, it's easy to fix: open the console, click on the door, and type
unlock). The door to the mausoleum only gets unlocked briefly right when you enter the mausoleum. To get through the locked door, you're supposed to get the key to the tomb off of Agarmir's corpse after you kill him. That's the only copy of the key in the game, and if you're on the outside and Agarmir's on the inside I don't see any way to get it. And yes, NPCs like guards can just ignore locked doors. But the player can't. --NepheleTalk 03:25, 2 August 2007 (EDT)
[edit] Xbox 360 or PC?
The first note in the "notes" section has two tips, one or the xbox version and another for the xbox 360 version. Since there is not (at least yet) a regular xbox version of Oblivion, should one of those tips be a PC notes and the other an Xbox 360 note, or should they both be for the 360? --WerdnanoslenTalk 18:23, 12 January 2007 (EST)
- I would vote to delete both "On the Xbox" and "In the Xbox 360 version". I know of no cases where game play issues like this are different between the PC and Xbox 360 versions. I'm pretty sure it's just that the people who contributed these tips happened to be playing on Xbox 360. In several other cases, such comments have later been confirmed by PC players (and vice versa). I think all such phrases should be deleted unless there is reason to believe that there is a platform-specific issue; it just encourages other readers to think that there are gameplay differences between the two platforms. --Nephele 18:35, 12 January 2007 (EST)
- Great, thanks for the fast response. Sadly I don't have the PC version to cross-check this myself =(. --WerdnanoslenTalk 18:39, 12 January 2007 (EST)
[edit] The Late Agarmir's House
I'll skip for a moment the question of why taking things from his house is "stealing" after you've justifiably killed Agarmir. (After killing him and his crony from hiding the first time, I went back and let him attack me just to be sure the kill was proper.) Maybe he left a will or something and it all belongs to his illegitimate son, Boxy.
What I'm wondering is, once Agarmir is dead, is his house yours to use? Will stuff dropped there be safe? If so it seems like a pretty smooth way to get a house in town.
Also, is there any way to use his key to LOCK his door? Don't want any good-for-nothing thieves breaking in after all...
Albatross 22:20, 20 February 2007 (EST)
- See the similar discussions at UESPWiki:Reference_Desk#Acquring_Glarthir.27s_House_in_Skingrad and Oblivion Talk:Glarthir. Basically, no, it is not a safe place to leave equipment. --Nephele 22:33, 20 February 2007 (EST)
[edit] Can't even open his home
I tried the open average lock spell but it did work but the door itself is locked from the inside.--ShakenMike 17:30, 24 February 2007 (EST)
- That means that he is home. Read Agarmir's House. You have to wait for him to leave. --GuildKnight 00:10, 25 February 2007 (EST)
[edit] Tavern
Thoronir first visits a tavern, and stays there for quite some time. Wouldn't it be better to just wait outside the tavern until 11:00 or so? He left the tavern at about 12:15 for me. It was the Merchant's Inn.
[edit] Agarmir Kill
If you kill Agramir before the quest what happens?
I did it too. You can't do the quest:(
[edit] Help
Ok, so I successfully break into Agamir's house and his basement and discover the muddy shovel. However, the Macabre Manifest just doesn't show up... I can't find it anywhere... is this a bug?
The shovel you need is not in his basement but in the mausoleum further into the quest. In his basement is a table with the Manifest sitting on it.

- I'm having the same problem. I talked to shopkeep, got the quest to follow him after he closes up shop. Followed him from the bar to the garden, then followed Agamir to his house, waited till 6pm, he finally left. I broke into his house, went down into the cellar, see the shovel, see skulls and bonemeal and tunics and a bunch of gray bags... but no books. I see the desk with all the candles, and nothing else. What's the deal? Why can't I see this book? (PS: I'm on a PS3)
