A merchant in Nimalten claims his silk was stolen by bandits. I've been asked to retrieve it for the angry businessman.

Quick Walkthrough[edit]

  1. Talk to Turil Darothren at the Riverside Inn.
  2. Find the missing silks.
  3. Return to the Riverside Inn with the silk.
  4. Decide what to do with the silks.

Detailed Walkthrough[edit]

After you get the silk, you may interrogate both Dunmer and it seems they both hired Chanda to attack the other. You can talk to both of them and ask them to confess, which they will. Enthis Hlan says that he had to because Turil was competition for him and bad-mouthing his wares, while Turil Darothern will say that part of his income will go to suffering war refugees. Choose to give the silk to either of them or throw it in the fire. If you throw it in the fire and talk to Enthis afterwards, he will say:

"My hero returns with my spun gold. I will buy you a pint as soon as you …"
Just stop talking. I've destroyed the silk.
"Sheogorath must have touched my mind. I could have sworn you just said the silk has been destroyed."
You're a liar and a cheat, Enthis.
"Oh, you're a priest now? Morally superior? To Oblivion with you! You know. I might just buy Turil a drink. Yes. Have a little chat about who's going to stab you to death!"

If you choose to talk to Turil afterwards, he will say:

"My friend. You return, with my valuable property all in …"
I've destroyed the silk.
"You … you what? Why would you do that?"
You're a liar and a cheat, Turil.
"Just, just stop talking. I can't bear the sound of your voice. It's time I put aside this feud with Enthis. It's clear we have much in common, such as hiring assassins to stab silk-rippers to death!"

If you choose to give the silk to Turil, he will say:

"Did ... did you notice that? Just now, as you handed me the silk. The sun shone through the clouds. Thank you. And look at Enthis over there. May he suffocate behind a pile of mammoth dung.:"

If you talk to Enthis after you give the silk to Turil, he will say:

"Taking coin from Turial? To steal from me? The three take you!:"

If you choose to give the silk to Enthis, he will say:

"You...you're a hero to honest businessmen everywhere. I'll teach my children songs about you! Look at Turil glowering. I hope he gets a disease and drowns in his own fluids.:"

Speak to Turil after you give the silk to Enthis and he will say:

"You gave away my silk to that...that netch. Does it bring you joy to steal from an old Dark Elf?"

You can the complete the quest and receive a silk velvet sash and an average amount of gold.

Quest Stages[edit]

A Business Proposition
Finishes Quest Journal Entry
I told Enthis that I'd retrieve his silk from Turil, his rival. I need to confront Turil, who is in the inn of Nimalten.
Objective: Talk to Turil
I need to head out of town and find the bags of silk the bandit leader stole.
Objective: Find Silk
Optional Step: Intimidate Turil
I should return to Nimalten with the bag of silk. I'll need to decide who gets the silk. Or indeed, if I should just destroy the silk by throwing it into the fireplace at the inn.
Complete one: Return Silk to Enthis or Return Silk to Turil or Throw Silk in the Fire
I decided neither merchant deserves the silk, so I destroyed it. Now to decide who gets the bad news.
Complete one: Tell Enthis the Bad News or Tell Turil the Bad News
I've decided to give the silk to Enthis. I should give him the good news.
Objective: Talk to Enthis
I've decided to give the silk to Tunil. I should give him the good news.
Objective: Talk to Tunil
Finishes quest☑ I've destroyed the silk. I should inform Enthis.

* Any text displayed in angle brackets (e.g., <Alias=LocationHold>) is dynamically set by the game and will be filled in with the appropriate word(s) when seen in game.
  • Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
  • Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
