Makela Leki

Makela Leki was a Redguard hero who defeated King Joile. Her spirit appears at HoonDing's Watch after the physical trials are completed, where she asks you what to record in her memory stone following the Battle of Bangkorai Pass. She also appears in the Hall of Heroes, where she lays out numerous swords in her burial chamber and asks you to choose the correct one to earn her blessing.

Dialogue[edit]

Trials of the Hero[edit]

When you first approach her, you will witness the memory of her death, as she weakly starts narrating her story.

Makela Leki "I spent my early years as a Maiden of the Spirit Blade…"
Makela Leki "As early… as early as I can…
Makela Leki "…remember…."

Once the flashback ends, you can speak to her:

"Great heroes often carry the greatest regrets. They lie buried in the sand with the bones and broken blades. Hidden. Forgotten. I had many stories to pass on, but only one is known. Hearken to me…"
Go on.
"You have won a great battle and covered yourself in glory—but you are gravely wounded. A magical memory stone will allow you to record your last thoughts.
Do you think of the battle, recording history? Or do you immortalize your beloved family?."
I choose history.
"The battle was important, yes. But is love not also worthy of rememberance [sic]? I thought of my training and the details of the battle. But as I turned my thoughts to family, death silenced me.
Now they are forgotten—lost for all time."
I choose my family.
"Family is paramount, yes. But are not all Redguards bound by blood? In immortalizing your own family, you may have robbed a civilization of one of its greatest glories.
The price of legend is high. The battle is celebrated, but my family is lost."

When you speak to her after, regardless of the choice taken:

"Not even the grandest hero can escape regret."

Trials and Tribulations[edit]

To gain access to the Chamber of Passage within the Hall of Heroes, you will need the blessings of the long dead, which includes Maleka. Her spirit will appear before you within her burial chamber.

"It takes a brave soldier to enter the Chamber of Passage, but courage alone is not what defines a warrior.
One has already breached the chamber without my blessing, but you come behind seeking just that, do you not?"
I do. I seek to stop the one who went in there.
"And by seeking our blessing, you show that you deserve such an honor.
The one who breached the chamber—this Septima Tharn—she has strength, courage, and even wisdom, but she lacks an essential quality of a true Ansei."
What quality is that?
"The answer is the key to my blessing.
You will find several impressive swords in this chamber. They are only symbols of ideals, but bring me the blade a true sword-singer would wield, and I will grant you entrance to the Chamber of Passage."
I'll choose the appropriate sword then.

After selecting one of the swords that has appeared, you can return to her with your choice.

"You must think as a sword-singer would. Which blade would be most suitable for a warrior who has achieved mastery of his or her technique?"
I believe I have the correct blade.
"Very well then. Which blade is it?"
<Give her the Sword of the Magus-Lord/Saint/High King.>
She pushes you back with a strong force, exiting the dialogue window, and says:
"That is not the blade a true sword-singer would wield. Try again."
<Give her the Simple Training Sword.>
"Well done. A true sword-singer would select the Training Sword because it is the swordsman, not the sword, that matters. You understand true humility.
You have my blessing. You may enter the Chamber of Passage."
Thank you.
