Najan

Najan is a Redguard farmer looking for his missing wife, Adeena within Nilata Ruins. He can be found outside in the eastern half where he is waiting for word from Izzara—his wife's sister who he recently asked for help to save her. However he did not tell her the full story, which may have dire consequences.

Learning of the Problem[edit]

Najan can be found in the eastern half of the ruins, where he laments a personal loss: "My wife … what have I done?"

He can be spoken with to begin the quest.

"Tall Papa, help me …. What have I done?
Please—you must help!"
What's wrong?
"It is my wife—my beautiful Adeena. Something dark claimed her, wayfarer. It's using her … like a puppet. By Tu'whacca's breath, I think it might be Daedra!
It's been luring people into the ruins. My wife is down there! Please, help me!"
I could look for her.
"Oh, stranger, you are kind beyond measure.
I called upon Adeena's twin sister, Izzara, two days ago. She's a powerful mage, you see? I thought she'd deal with the monster and be back by sundown. But she still has not returned."
I'll try to find her.

After agreeing to search for the sisters, Najan can be asked about Izzara and the Nilata Ruins. He reveals that he is complicit in awakening of the Daedra and its possession of his wife.

"I hope you can find her."
What is this place?
"It's called the Nilata Ruins. Hallin's elders say it was the site of an old Ayleid fortress. I don't know if that's true. All I know is that it's a decent place for grazing. At least it used to be. I am sorry—I'm not a historian."
What were you doing in the ruins?
"I bring my goats here to graze. My mother always said the grass here was finer … the ruins made it so.
One of my smallest found a doorway and ran inside. I gave chase and found … well, now I don't know what I found. She seemed so beautiful."
She?
"Well … yes. I found a talisman in the dark, and a beautiful spirit appeared. She called herself Anexiel. Beautiful Anexiel.
It's … it's not important. She decieved
[sic] me. She said she needed a "vessel." Someone with magic in their blood."
Your wife?
"Yes.
I'm not proud of it. My wife is lovely, but so meek. So quiet.
Anexiel and I had so much in common. She was light-hearted and smart … seductive. It doesn't matter now. All that matters is my wife's safety. I just want to hold her again."
Why did you have to get Izzara to help you?
"I didn't know what else to do! If I had told anyone in town, they might have lynched me on the spot! Consorting with Daedra? It is unforgivable.
Izzara is a powerful mage. She's also Adeena's identical twin. It just seemed like the only thing to do."
You say she's a mage?
"Yes. We Redguards take care to avoid magic, but Izzara was never ashamed. She studied long and long in both Daggerfall and Wayrest. She's a true sorcerer.
Her and Adeena both have magic in their blood. Adeena is just better at hiding it."
What did she say when you told her what happened?
"I didn't … that is, I didn't tell her everything. If she knew what I had done, she might have turned me to salt, or set me on fire.
I may deserve those things, but not until I see my beloved wife free of that monster."

Returning to Najan[edit]

After dealing with the daedra, you escort one of the sisters back to him so they can confront him over his part in the whole mess.

Adeena confronts Najan
With the Wife
When Adeena speaks with him she lambasts him for lusting after a daedra and getting her sister and many others killed.
Najan: "Adeena? Oh Adeena, my love! Thank the Eight you're safe!"
Adeena: "Hold your miserable tongue, snake! I'll not hear more of your lies!"
Najan: "Adeena, it was all my fault, I know … Zeht's tears I'm so sorry! I didn't know! I didn't—"
Adeena: "You lusted after a Daedra, you filthy cur! After all I've done—all I've sacrificed! For you!"
Najan: "I know. I know I failed you … failed us. But if you'd only—"
Adeena: "No, Najan! I will not. Perhaps if you'd come and faced the monster yourself. But instead you send my sister? Izzara is dead because of you!"
Najan: "Dead? By the Eight …. Adeena, I'm sorry … I'm so sorry. Adeena? Please speak to me!"

Once this is completed, Najan can be spoken with.

"I've lost everything …."
What will you do now?
"I … I don't know. I just don't know.
Adeena … my desert star. I've lost her forever. And for what?"
Well, I slayed the Daedra.
"Not until after it killed the woman I sent into harms way!
Izzara faced spiders, Daedra, ancient magic. All I did was stand here and bleat like a lamb—afraid to face the thing I set free. Ancestors forgive me …."
I need to move on.
"Yes, of course. I'm sorry … for everything. Gods, what have I done …."

If he is spoken to after this, he will say, "Adeena may forgive me in time, but I will never forgive myself."

With the Mage
If Izzara survives she will lay into him instead:
Najan: "Izzara? Praise Ruptga, it is good to see you safe. Where's Adeena?"
Izzara: "Najan, you cowardly snake. She's dead! Slain by that monster you lusted after!"
Najan: "No, no that can't be true! You were supposed to save her!"
Izzara: "And what about you? Could you not have saved her? No, you were busy out here cowering behind rocks like a dog!"
Izzara: "After all she did for you … all she sacrificed, you cast her into Oblivion for a fool's pleasure. You disgust me!"
Najan: "Izzara! I … I didn't know! If —"
Izzara: "My sister deserved better than you. A better life than you."
Izzara: "If I ever see you again …. There aren't words for what I'll do to you."

Izzara will then run off to the nearby wayshrine and disappear.

Speaking to him after this.

"Adeena …. By the Eight, what have I done? I never meant for this to happen."
Well, it happened.
"Izzara was right. I failed her. She was beautiful and kind-hearted. My foolishness killed her. Sep take me …."
What will you do now?
"Leave. Maybe I'll walk into the desert and put an end to it. I deserve worse.
I should go to Adeena's family first. To apologize. I won't ask for forgiveness though. I'm beyond such things."
Izzara may be there.
"I hope that she is. Perhaps killing me will grant her some solace. She deserves justice.
I deserve to die."

If he is spoken to after this, he will say, "Adeena's family may forgive me, but I will never forgive myself."
