A goblin totem
A Daedric creature is loose in Bonesnap Ruins, and Battlemage Gaston has found a way to contain the creature by repairing a Welkynd Stone that's been damaged by invading Goblins.

Quick Walkthrough[edit]

  1. Collect four Welkynd Stone fragments.
  2. Bring the fragments to Gaston.
  3. Contain the Daedra.
  4. Speak to Gaston.

Detailed Walkthrough[edit]

Upon entering Bonesnap Ruins, you'll find several members of the Lion Guard along the passageway, defending against the local goblin tribe that has infested the ruins. As you approach, one of them will yell at Battlemage Gaston to hurry up. Gaston can be found in a large side chamber to the east, standing in front of a large blue crystal. Speak to him to learn it is a Welkynd Stone that was once the focus of a binding spell for a Daedra. However, the goblins that moved into the ruins broke the stone and carried off four pieces of it for their totems. That freed Daedra attacked the Lion Guard upon entering the ruins. Gaston asks you to retrieve the pieces so he can re-bind the Daedra.

The first totem is a short distance north, at a junction. It's right next to Sir Edgard, Gaston's second-in-command, who will start the quest Lost Lions, if you agree to help him. It saves some backtracking if you pick up the quest now.

Repairing the cage

The southern totem is just down the stairs to the west, in the middle of a chamber that is also occupied by Torak Shadebringer, one of the public dungeon's bosses. However, you should be able to sneak in without engaging him, if you prefer. Search the totem to find the stolen fragment.

Head west then north through the mobs of goblins and their pets, and cross a large cavern, making your way to the room with Rork Bonehammer, another boss, as well as some ogres. Both the next fragment and Lion Guard member for the concurrent quest are here.

Loop south, and pick up the last fragment from a totem in the adjacent room. The next corridor connects back to where Sir Edgard was, so just head back up to Gaston.

Now return to Gaston and activate the broken Welkynd Stone to repair it. It'll start to glow brilliantly and Gaston will exclaim that the binding spell is working. Speak to him; he'll say he'll take it from here and you'll receive a lot of leveled gold and XP.

The quest officially ends there, but stick around a bit for a scene of Gaston binding the Daedra, a Winged Twilight named Zix the Deceiver.

Notes[edit]

  • After repairing the warding stone, Gaston's name temporarily changes from "Battlemage Gaston" to "Veteran Mage Gaston" while talking with Zix, and then reverts afterward. Zix is also shown as "Zix the Deceiver" in the subtitles when she is normally just named "Zix".
