Reynelle Derone

Reynelle Derone is a Breton spirit imprisoned within the Vaults of Madness. Her soul is caged within the large flesh atronach, Grothdarr.

In life, she was apprenticed to Gasteau Chamrond as an architect in Wayrest. At his behest, she stole his rival Dutheil's designs so he could present them as his own. Gasteau's plan would ultimately lead to Dutheil being shunned by the nobility. When Dutheil snapped and became the Mad Architect, she was one of his first victims.

Once Grothdarr is defeated, Reynelle will be freed and then proceed to talk with Gasteau.

Reynelle Derone: "That was a nightmare."
Gasteau Chamrond: "Reynelle my dear. How do you fare?"
Reynelle Derone: "Gasteau? I'm fine thanks to our friends. Is this...an attempt to escape?"
Gasteau Chamrond: "There's a chance, my dear. There's a chance. If our friends here are as powerful they [sic] seem."
Reynelle Derone: "Your plan is to fight the Architect directly? Haven't we done enough to him?"
Gasteau Chamrond: "Have we done enough to him? He's tortured us every day since our imprisonment! You think his actions are just?"
Reynelle Derone: "No, but I can understand his anger. We ruined him, Gasteau."

She can then be asked about herself and her history with the Mad Architect:

"I am glad to be free of that monster's flesh, but I can't rest easy until I've passed from this plane.
I died so long ago—I would give anything to move on."
What else do you need me to do?
"The only thing left is to defeat the Architect. It pains me to take more from that man than we already have—but I doubt he'll let us leave without a fight."
I'll deal with the Mad Architect.
"I would take back what I did if I could. I just...I didn't know things would turn out this way.
I thought that, for Dutheil, it would be simply be a matter of finding new work. I didn't intend to destroy his life. His mind."
What did you do to him?/Why did the Mad Architect imprison you?
"I...stole designs from him, after Saryne arranged for the Wayrest nobles to deny Dutheil further projects.
Gasteau presented those designs to the nobles as renovations for the Royal District, as original works."
What happened then?
"Well, Dutheil was unable to secure further work, just as Saryne and Gasteau had intended.
The man already an eccentric and his falling out with the Wayrest nobles led to a mental collapse. The next I saw Dutheil, he was the Mad Architect."
Why would you do that?
"I was Gasteau's apprentice, hoping to become a full artisan in my own right.
He had done much for me, taken me under his wing, allowed me to flourish. I thought I was helping a friend."

While at the Chasm:

"The sooner this is over the better."

Once the Mad Architect is destroyed, Reynelle and her friends find they cannot leave the Vaults.

Gasteau Chamrond: "He's gone! He's gone—but nothing's happening."
"It seems the Mad Architect's destruction did not allow us to step from this plane. Unfortunate, but we'll have to make do. He mastered this place, mastered the Daedra, somehow. Perhaps we can do the same."
Reynelle Derone: "But what do we do? Where do we go?"
Saryne Dralen: "We can't stay here. Not like this."
Gasteau Chamrond: "I'll figure something out. I always do."

When the Mad Architect is killed, before you've talked to Gasteau she will say:

"I didn't want it to end this way …."

When she is spoken to she has a final farewell and thank you.

"Thank you for helping us. There's … not much else you can do.
I hope Gasteau has a plan. Staying here seems … unwise."
