[edit] Detailed Walkthrough

[edit] What It's Like

A green glowing Elytra.
A green glowing Elytra.

Make your way to the House of Mania and speak with the Duke, Thadon. He requests, in a round-about way, that you retrieve the Chalice of Reversal for him. Thadon seems to be too drugged up to coherently tell you where to find it, so speak with his steward Wide-Eye, who will be standing in the room somewhere. She informs that the Chalice is kept in Dunroot Burrow and noting that it is curious Thadon require it. Suddenly, she comes to the vivid realization that this is a quest for you as much as it is for Thadon; you must ingest Felldew to enter the Burrow. Felldew is a highly addictive drug, produced by a particular variety Elytra that inhabit the Burrow. Kithlan, of the House of Dementia, can also provide some background lore behind both the Chalice and Thadon.

Travel to Dunroot Burrow, located near the northern-most section of Overlook Road. Kill the Elytra at the root door entrance and take the Felldew from its corpse. All Elytra that carry Felldew have a green glowing, shimmering effect. Ingest the Felldew and you will receive a temporary stat boost as well as the ability to able to open the 'Barrier Membranes' that protect Dunroot Burrow. You will also instantly become "addicted" to Felldew and shortly after each dose, the effects will wear off and you will suffer from "withdrawals" if you don't consume it regularly. At first, the withdrawal effect will drain four of your eight attributes by five points, worsening shortly thereafter to afflict all eight attributes. The withdrawal will eventually worsen, draining all attributes by ten points. Continual consumption of the drug will temporarily reverse the effects of Felldew withdrawal. Obtaining the Chalice of Reversal will remove the effects of Felldew addiction completely.

[edit] What A Long Strange Trip

Traverse through the first four zones of Dunroot Burrow, eliminating any Elytra along the way. While it is possible to sneak past the Elytra, killing them will yield additional sources of Felldew, lessening the effects of the Felldew withdrawal. There is also a considerable amount of loot located in hollowed stumps scattered throughout the Burrow. The Burrow itself appears to be an Elytra hive that continually descends into the ground until reaching the fifth zone; 'The Sanctum of Decadence,' single massive room reminiscent of a temple-like ruin. Proceed into the Sanctum, where the Chalice is located sitting atop a pedestal in the middle of the room. The Sanctum is inhabited by two 'Felldew Addicts' and a named NPC, Joofy the Brown. All three are unarmed and hostile. It is possible to avoid all three NPCs and take the Chalice. However, this is difficult, and further compounded by high light levels within the room, and the constant moving of the Addicts; waiting until late morning can help, since the addicts sleep from 8am to noon. Another alternative is to simply kill both Addicts and Joofy. None of them will prove a challenge, as they are all unarmed and unarmored. Regardless of your method, take the Chalice and exit through the door to the right of the bedroom/wine area. This leads directly outside at the bottom of the Jester's Spine Mountains. Taking the Chalice will remove your Felldew Addiction and restore any lost attributes.

Shortly after exiting the Burrow, an Obelisk of Order will activate a short distance away. While it is not necessary to shut down the Obelisk, doing so may yield some loot, as well as provide some experience for later quests.

If you opt to shut down the Obelisk, place three Hearts of Order in the Obelisk to deactivate it. These can be obtained either by killing the Knights near the Obelisk, or if you still have the Hearts from a previous quest. The Priest of Order attending the Obelisk must be killed prior to placing the third Heart or he will simply reactivate the Obelisk again. Once the Obelisk has been deactivated, searching it will yield some various loot. Return to New Sheoth and present the Chalice to Thadon, who will grant you membership in the Court of Mania, thus completing the quest.

[edit] Notes

  • After the completion of this quest, Thadon can be found in Halcyon Conservatory in the House of Mania during the morning and other occasional times, essentially "tripping out" on Felldew. He will be dancing a unique and ludicrous sequence of movements, speak about enjoying the Chalice, and other amusing oddities, although it is possible he did some of these prior to the quest.
  • In the final room of the Burrow, you will find a pair of relatively rare wrist irons on top of one of the cupboards.
  • If you are suffering from severe Felldew withdrawal, and you have reached the final area, fighting the addicts can be tricky, as they use their fists to attack, which lowers your already waning fatigue levels, meaning that you will probably find yourself collapsing regularly during the fight.
  • It is possible to use Felldew to raise your attributes past their maximum levels. Because the addiction actually temporarily lowers the base attribute rather than simply damaging or draining them (in an effort to prevent potions or spells nullifying the effect) you can raise lowered attributes that were previously at 100 upon leveling. This will also allow you to reach a higher maximum level than previously possible. After drinking from the Chalice of Reversal, your previous attributes will be restored with your additional attribute points added.

[edit] Bugs

  • The special Elytra Hatchling that carries the Felldew required to access Dunroot Burrow may be missing and never reappear, making it impossible to enter and complete the quest. Console players will have to load a previous save, but PC players can work around this by entering the following into the command console to spawn the Elytra:
    player.placeatme 1E437 1
or alternatively, to just add the Felldew into player inventory:
    player.additem 13186 1

Notes
  • Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
  • Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in random order.
  • If an entry is marked as "Finishes Quest" it means the quest disappears from the Active Quest list, but you may still receive new entries for that quest.
  • On the PC, it is possible to use the console to advance through the quest by entering setstage quest stage. Where quest is the internal name of the quest, and stage is the number of the stage you wish to complete. It is not possible to un-complete (i.e. go back) quest stages. See SetStage for more information.
