Ebrocca is a very large ruin north of New Sheoth containing undead and a unique NPC (quest-related). [edit] It contains six zones: Ebrocca, Descenia, Ebrocca, Duwane, Ebrocca, Sepechra, Ebrocca, Masse, Ebrocca, Fiele, and Ebrocca, Crematorium.
Ebrocca is the youngest ruin in the Shivering Isles. It is almost 1000 years old. It is located very close to Highcross, just barely southeast of the town. The ruin was constructed as an elaborate mausoleum for a clan of wood elves. It is filled with undead and traps. The first level has another door that leads out into the isles. The only way to the other levels is to pass through the traps. There is a spot in a small hallway where every section has a button; pushing the button makes the floor fall away in that section, dropping into a pit beneath. That pit has a button which drops you into yet another pit beneath. The second pit is a small corridor, just like the top corridor, and also has the buttons that drop into pits beneath. Each of those pits also has a button which drops down into yet another corridor, and those have yet more buttons dropping into pits beneath. Some of these pits contain undead, some do not, but assuming you have survived to this point, the buttons here drop out into a room where you can proceed.
There are several levels to the ruin: Ebrocca Crematorium, Ebrocca Descenia, Ebrocca Duwane, Ebrocca Masse, Ebrocca Fiele, and Ebrocca Sepechra. The Descenia has another door to the outside world, but it is not an exit; it leads to the bottom of a pit trap. The Masse has the entrance into the Sepechra, as well as a door into the Fiele. The door to the Sepechra is locked and requires a key; fortunately the key is hidden in a chest nearby, concealed behind a wall panel.
Within the Sepechra you'll find Clanfather Malifant. This mausoleum was constructed at his direction, and he still dwells here as "caretaker". He will attack you on sight, and there are magics in place to revive him when you kill him. After killing him, there are some more undead that must be fought, then there is a button in his bedchamber that leads into yet another pit. Following the route into the pit will let you drop down into yet another entrance to Ebrocca Fiele and thus exit the ruin.
Notes
- There are a number of bits of lore than can be picked up in here. Most of them are on dead bodies that you find in various places. From reading them, it is apparent that the Clanfather's mother died and he began constructing Ebrocca as a final resting place for her. Her death apparently pushed him over the edge into madness, because he went from Tamriel to the Shivering Isles to build the mausoleum. His family thought the tomb was in Skyrim. Over time, he apparently summoned and killed off most, if not all, of his family.
- Some of you may decide that this place would be a perfect place to set up shop for a necromancer or dark themed character. Unfortunately, this is made impossible by the scripted walls linked to the Clanfather. Upon dying, the walls around him lower, allowing three undead monsters to attack you, and allowing you to make your way to the bed. The walls have a nasty habit of resetting themselves to the up position, and do not react when the Clanfather is killed the second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth or however many other times you wish to kill him.
This bug is fixed by the Unofficial Shivering Isles Patch.
- There is an interesting trap in Ebrocca Duwane that rains gold and gems onto your head while also shooting you with darts from the ceiling. There is a pedestal in the hallway with a button on the Eastern side. Pressing the button causes the ceiling to open above you and reveal the dart trap whilst also releasing the hidden treasure.
Shortcut to Crematorium
There's an easy passage to find the crematorium. Straight south of Ebrocca there's a hidden passage behind a rock formation. On the map its just WNW from the 'S' of the Spine Mountains. Behind the rock you will find a stone floor. When you step on it, it will open and you will fall down. From there, you go further in the passage and you will only encounter some pits. You can run over the three pits when they are closed, but to be safe jump over them because they open and close quickly. At the end of that corridor, you will see some leather shields. There is a button underneath one of them that opens a wall, allowing access to the crematorium.
Crematorium Notes
- In the crematorium you will find a key on a table. This is for the left metal door where you already found the leather shields.
- The Crematory Chest inside the cage can be filled with bones and skulls (including Fractured Humeruses, Shambles Skulls, and Bone Shards) and then activated to change them into Ashen Remains, limitlessly. This means all the bones found everywhere can be turned into money.
