[edit] Detailed Walkthrough
[edit] Roots
In Fellmoor, a farm settlement to the north west of Xedilian and far south west of New Sheoth along Pinnacle Road, there is a major Water Root Pod farming operation going on. The two Khajiits seem to be the only two of the four residents that actually work though. They are persistently followed around as they harvest the Root Pods by an Altmer named Cindanwe. She will coldly tell you that their farming is of serious importance, but there is a major problem concerning the lazy attitude of the two Khajiiti. Observing the constantly working Khajiiti makes it quite clear that the problem lies elsewhere. Speak to either one to learn that they are "the king and queen of the Shivering Isles" but neither will trust you with any more information than that.
The male, Ranarr-Jo, will only talk to you if the female Khajiit, Kishashi, trusts you first. The quest update will mention giving her five Water Root Pod Pits but you can also persuade her disposition to 60 or more and she will talk to you about 'Ranarr-Jo's Trust'. Kishashi will also give you an 'Old Wooden Spoon' to give to Ranarr-Jo as evidence of your friendship; "It is a powerful Daedric Artifact I once used to slay a Minotaur", she says. Show Ranarr-Jo the spoon, regardless of how you tell him you obtained the spoon, and in disbelief he will explain the situation. As it seems, Cindanwe is treating the two as slaves for the farm rather than residents. Kishashi and Ranarr-Jo can do nothing as they believe she has studied them for so long that she has become able to read and control their thoughts. They also believe that the Water Root Pods conceal an army underneath that will rise up and devour the Isles one day, and that spies come at night for Cindanwe and plot murdering the two. They want her and her ways gone, and he also tells you that he wants her notebook, and his reasons are his alone. Unfortunately Cindanwe always carries it with her.
[edit] Physical or Mental
Ranarr-Jo goes on to explain that there are two ways to dispose of Cindanwe. The obvious way is to kill Cindanwe, freeing the Khajiiti to run the farm themselves. The less obvious method is to make Cindanwe's life so miserable that she preoccupies herself with something else for a long time. Killing Cindanwe is not difficult; sneaking up and assassinating her in her sleep, or reverse-pickpocketing a poisoned apple into her inventory will work fine.
Making her life miserable requires you to sneak into her house when she is out looming over the Khajiiti (It might be possible to do this as she sleeps but there seems to be a minor bug preventing it), and moving her items around by picking them up and throwing them around the house, or blasting them around with projectile spells, thus wrecking Cindanwe's house.
Acquiring Cindanwe's notebook is optional to complete the quest but will get you a second reward. The notebook, according to Ranarr-Jo, includes information on her plans to kill him and Kishashi and all their thoughts she's recorded. If you chose to kill Cindanwe then taking her notebook will not be a problem, as it is on her body. If you choose to wreck her home however, you will need to pickpocket her notebook (preferably before wrecking her home as she locks herself inside afterwards and doesn't like someone picking her lock to get in). Alternately, if you can raise her disposition above 70, Cindanwe will loan you the notebook if you ask about it.
[edit] Liberation
Once Cindanwe is either dead or has locked herself in her house to meticulously reorganize everything, return to Ranarr-Jo who will happily thank you and give you a reward, the Ring of Mind Shielding. It is a valuable ring, enchanted with Resist Magic and Reflect Spell, which he apparently used to stop her from reading his mind. If you have obtained the Notebook, a conversation option will appear asking about it. Ranarr-Jo will then gladly take it and give you a bonus reward, a skill book randomly selected from any of the 104 standard skill books in the game (the only non-mod skill books that cannot appear are the four volumes of the Mythic Dawn Commentaries and the Fighters Guild History, 1st Ed.). You will then receive a journal entry telling you that the quest is complete.
[edit] Notes
- As soon as the quest update tells you Cindanwe's house is wrecked, either leave or stop interacting with objects in the house, as Cindanwe will immediately return from wherever she was outside. Although she does not seem to care if you are simply standing there it is quite easy to still be wrecking or stealing things when she comes in, thus earning a bounty.
- If you obtain Cindanwe's Notebook and read it, you will find that she is not only utterly insane (more so than some of the others, although there is some wisdom in her words), but she has no mind reading or controlling abilities. She feels justified in what she is doing and acts as such to the Khajiiti relentlessly, simply so they won't realize just how maddeningly paranoid and afraid she is.
- At night, Ranarr-Jo can be seen sneaking around outside and camping beside Cindanwe's house, watching for spies and protecting Kishashi.
- Once the quest is complete, assuming you chose not to kill Cindanwe, the next time you return to Fellmoor you can enter Cindanwe's house to find it partially reorganized. She can be found kneeling on the floor in a state of panicked frustration among a pile of the remaining disorganized clutter.
- If you don't mind taking away from the natural flow of the game, you can always save and reload until you get a book that suits you, as the book is determined when you finish the quest.
- It is possible that, when you find Cindawe again (assuming you didn't kill her) you may find she has regained her notebook. It remains a quest item.
[edit] Bugs
- It seems to be quite difficult to catch Cindanwe sleeping. (This sleeplessness of hers might actually be intentional, as it goes well along with her character.) Any time she has retired to her house and you enter she will be in the same position as she was when you last left. If it is your first time entering, she will be by the door, assuming it's not late enough for "You're not supposed to be in here", you can follow her around until she kicks you out, wait a few hours, and upon reentering she will be standing where she was when she kicked you out. Essentially this is not serious, as "silently" wrecking her house when she's sleeping might prove difficult for most anyway.
[edit] Journal Entries
| Everything In Its Place (SE39) | ||
|---|---|---|
| Stage | Finishes Quest | Journal Entry |
| 0 | ||
| 10 | Ranaar-Jo of Fellmoor is in desperate need of help, except he won't trust me until I've earned Kishashi's trust. I should find her and win her over. | |
| 20 | I need to get Kishashi to trust me. She mentioned needing five Pod Pits. (If stage 10 of The Helpless Army has been done (the player has been told about the need to travel to Pinnacle Rock to save the Dark Seducer stronghold)) or Ranarr-Jo is in need of a hero, but Kishashi won't tell me more until she can trust me. If I want to know more, I need to get her to trust me. She mentioned needing five pod pits. (If the player hasn't reached that stage of the main quest, or became ruler of Dementia instead) |
|
| 30 | I've given Kishashi five Pod Pits. That made her happy. She should trust me now. | |
| 40 | I've acquired a spoon from Kishashi that supposedly will get Ranarr-Jo to trust me. I should talk to him. | |
| 45 | I've given Ranarr-Jo a spoon from Kishashi. It apparently is a sign he should trust me. | |
| 50 | Ranarr-Jo has asked me to wreck Cindanwe's house, and steal her notebook. | |
| 60 | I've put Cindanwe's house in disarray. then I should speak with Ranarr-Jo to tell him the mission is accomplished. |
|
| 65 | Cindanwe of Fellmoor is dead. I should check her corpse to see if she had anything interesting on her when she died. (If the player didn't know about Cindanwe's notebook) or Cindanwe of Fellmoor is dead. I should speak with Ranarr-Jo to tell him the mission is accomplished. (If the player was told about the notebook and has already acquired it) |
|
| 70 | I've acquired Cindanwe's notebook. Maybe I should talk to the other people in the settlement about this. (If Cindanwe is dead but the player wasn't told about getting her notebook) or I've acquired Cindanwe's notebook. I should speak with Ranarr-Jo to tell him the mission is accomplished. (If the player knew about the notebook and trashed Cindanwe's house or killed her) |
|
| 80 | (No journal means 60 and 70, or 65 and 70 are both done) | |
| 200 | Ranarr-Jo is grateful that I've taken care of Cindanwe. Now he and his neighbors can live in peace. | |
| 210 | Ranarr-Jo is dead. I'll never know what he needed help with now. (If the player had previously met Ranarr-Jo but hadn't found out what he wanted) or Ranarr-Jo is dead. I suppose he won't have to worry about Cindanwe now. (If the player had got the mission from Ranarr-Jo) |
|
| 220 | Kishashi is dead. I'll never be able to earn her trust now. Ranarr-Jo will just have to deal with things on his own. (Only appears if the player has talked to Ranarr-Jo but hasn't got the spoon from Kishashi yet) | |
- Notes
- Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
- Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in random order.
- If an entry is marked as "Finishes Quest" it means the quest disappears from the Active Quest list, but you may still receive new entries for that quest.
- On the PC, it is possible to use the console to advance through the quest by entering
setstage SE39 stage. Wherestageis the number of the stage you wish to complete. It is not possible to un-complete (i.e. go back) quest stages. See SetStage for more information.
