The Shivering Isles adds several new traps in addition to the existing traps. Some of the old traps are re-used in the Shivering Isles (see Re-used Oblivion Traps), but the most traps encountered are new ones.
[edit] Root Tunnel Traps
These traps appear in the "Root Tunnel" (the cave variant) sections of dungeons.
[edit] Root Spikes
Found in: Aichan, Dire Warren, Dunroot Burrow, Fain, Fetid Grove, Gardens of Flesh and Bone, Knotty Bramble, Milchar, Rotten Den, Xaselm.
Traits: Look on the ground for a plant similar in appearance to Root Stalks, only smaller. Holes can be found on the walls next to this plant.
Action: When the player steps on the plant, spikes will quickly come out of the wall.
Effect: Every actor hit by spikes will receive 5 + 1 × lvl damage.
The area targetted by the spikes is a narrow area perpendicular to the tunnel. Either avoid the trigger to avoid the trap, or move quickly over it.
[edit] Root Worm
Found in: Aichan, Dunroot Burrow, Fetid Grove, Knifepoint Hollow, Rotten Den.
Traits: Look for small pipes sticking out of the wall. The pipes are slightly bent.
Action: When an actor comes too close, the root will grow very quickly and hurt anything it touches.
Effect: Every actor hit by the root will receive 5 + 1 × lvl damage.
This trap does not push back its victims. Thus it is able to swiftly kill other actors who wander into this trap by continiously damaging them.
[edit] Spore Pod
| Level | Effects |
|---|---|
| 1 - 7 | Drain Agility 5pts in 10ft for 15sec on Target. Fortify Speed 5pts in 10ft for 15sec on Target. |
| 8 - 15 | Drain Agility 5pts in 12ft for 20sec on Target. Fortify Speed 5pts in 12ft for 20sec on Target. |
| 16 - 23 | Drain Agility 10pts in 14ft for 25sec on Target. Fortify Speed 10pts in 14ft for 25sec on Target. |
| 24+ | Drain Agility 10pts in 16ft for 30sec on Target. Fortify Speed 10pts in 16ft for 30sec on Target. |
Found in: Aichan, Blackroot Lair, Corpserot Passage, Dire Warren, Dunroot Burrow, Fetid Grove, Knifepoint Hollow, Knotty Bramble, Rotten Den, Swampgas Hole.
Traits: Look on the ground for a balloon shaped plant with little spikes on top. They usually can be found close to a wall.
Action: When the player comes too close to the Spore Pod, or an arrow or spell is fired at it, it will cast an area of effect spell.
Effect: The traps casts Drain Agility, Fortify Speed and Paralyze on everyone in a certain area.
All the individual effects can be absorbed/reflected/resisted by magical means. If you set off the trap by firing an arrow or spell at it, the trap may be used to hurt other actors. After the trap has been set off, it takes 15 seconds to recharge.
[edit] Ruin Traps
These traps appear in the "Ruin" (the fort variant) sections of dungeons.
[edit] Button
Found in: Practically all ruins.
Traits: Two varieties exist. Look for a small slab sticking out of a wall or pillar with either a red laughing face or a green angry face on it.
Action: Activate the button to activate the object it is connected to.
Effect: When activated, this button can activate a wide array of objects, including traps.
Often this button will only open a gate, but sometimes it can activate a trap targetted at the player activating the button. The correct button to open the gate may then be somewhere else. Always be careful when pushing a button and look around first if there are signs of traps or other buttons.
[edit] Cave In
Found in: Most ruins.
Traits: Two varieties exist. The first makes rock drop from the ceiling, and the other exists of a column standing free that crumbles. There are no visible traits to either variety. If you encounter one Cave In, there is a good chance there are more in the area.
Action: When the player enters a certain trigger zone, usually in the proximity of the Cave In trap, rocks will fall down and deal damage to any actor they hit.
Effect: The damage differs per instance. It is usually (3 to 5) + 0.75 × lvl damage, but several ceiling Cave Ins will deal 8 + 1 × lvl damage.
Although it is impossible to actually recognize a column or ceiling that is about to Cave In, there is a pattern in their placement. For example, when you see several columns in a row, there is a good chance that one will crumble (but usually not more than one per row). Some ruins may have no Cave In traps at all, while some others are full with them. Xeddefen is notable as the ruin with the most Cave In traps.
Be careful when shooting rocks away with area of effect spells or 'grabbing' them; otherwise, the rocks may hit you and still do damage as if they fell on you.
[edit] Hunger Statue
| Normal | Weaker | Damage Health |
|---|---|---|
| Level | Level | |
| 1 - 6 | 1 - 10 | 6pts in 12ft |
| 7 - 12 | 11 - 20 | 12pts in 12ft |
| 13 - 18 | 21+ | 18pts in 12ft |
| 19 - 25 | 24pts in 12ft | |
| 26+ | 30pts in 12ft |
Found in: Most ruins.
Traits: A big statue of a Hunger. Not all statues are traps, and the statues found outside are never traps.
Action: When the player activates a certain trigger (e.g. when entering a triggered zone, or pushing a button), the statue will fire a Damage Health projectile aimed at the player or at a certain spot.
Effect: When an actor is hit by the projectile, the Damage Health effect is applied.
There are two varieties of this trap. A normal version and a weaker version (reduced Damage Health effect). The weaker version is usually found in groups, making them combined still more dangerous than the stand alone version. The spell effect can be absorbed/reflected/resisted.
[edit] Secret Wall
Found in: Most ruins.
Traits: The Secret Wall looks similar to normal walls, but a few traits may betray it. The wall has no decorations and often a small stair leading up to it can be found.
Action: When the player comes near, the wall opens.
Effect: An enemy can usually be found behind a Secret Wall, and will automatically come forward when the wall opens.
Be careful of enemies behind these walls, they have a set behaviour to approach a spot likely near the player. Some walls may not reveal an enemy, but treasure instead or even passage to remote areas.
[edit] Scalon Statue
| Level | Effect |
|---|---|
| 1 - 6 | 6pts in 12ft |
| 7 - 12 | 12pts in 12ft |
| 13 - 18 | 18pts in 12ft |
| 19 - 25 | 24pts in 12ft |
| 26+ | 30pts in 12ft |
Found in: Most ruins, Rotten Den.
Traits: A big statue of a Scalon.
The Damage Health effect can be absorbed/reflected/resisted.
[edit] Trapped Floor
Found in: Most ruins.
Traits: The Trapped Floor looks similar to normal floor tiles but never has any static objects placed on it. Looking at the Dungeon map may reveal a passage running underneath the passage the player is on. A Trapped Floor over a lower passage is likely.
Action: When the player comes near the edge of the floor tile, or a button is pushed, the floor will open.
Effect: If an actor falls down it will receive standard falling damage.
Sometimes spikes may be found under the Trapped Floor. In Ebrocca some floors open and close after set time intervals. Some remote areas can only be reached by incidentially falling down.
[edit] Re-used Oblivion traps
These traps appear in the Shivering Isles, but are originally Oblivion Traps:
[edit] Darts
Found in: Aichan, Cylarne, Cann, Ebrocca, Xaselm.
