Xirethard is a large ruin west of New Sheoth containing Dark Seducers and Monsters (quest-related). [edit] It contains three zones: Xirethard, Xirethard, Depths, and Xirethard, Subterrane.
Xirethard is an ancient ruin, used by the paranoid Dukes of Dementia as a secret escape route out of New Sheoth. It consists of three zones: 'Xirethard', 'Xirethard Depths', and 'Xirethard Subterrane'. It can be entered through the entrance marked on the map, barely west of New Sheoth, or via a hidden access tunnel in the Private Gardens of the House of Dementia. There is a bust of Sheogorath there to the right of the Private Bedroom door, that when activated, recedes into the floor revealing a ladder down to Xirethard. The bust is only activated by the Duchess; it responds to no one else. It will only be activated during and if you chose to do the Ritual of Dementia, although it can be activated by the player after assuming the rights awarded for finishing that quest.
The zones of the ruin themselves are actually named in reverse from the standard places found. When entering from the ruin entrance, rather than the secret passage, you will find yourself in 'Xirethard Subterrane' followed by 'Xirethard Depths', and finally just 'Xirethard' (where the secret passage is connected). All three zones contain more than a few traps, so care should be taken when progressing through. The zone 'Xirethard' has a particularly large number of traps in it (as this is the zone you will be coming from during the related quest), Hunger statues that shoot spells constantly and from varying angles. It is also populated by Dark Seducers that are automatically hostile to you, regardless of your station. There is a door from the back to 'Xirethard Depths'. The Depths are also populated by Dark Seducers. There is a door from the far side of the Depths, near where the related quest ends up, into 'Xirethard Subterrane'.
Related Quests
- Ritual of Dementia: Kill the Duchess of Dementia and take her place.
Notes
- Even if you have completed the main quest and received the benefits that come with it, the Dark Seducers found here remain hostile. Although, if you have gained the benefits for completing the quest Ritual of Dementia, they are not.
- If coming from the "main" entrance, simply while adventuring, you will eventually reach a seemingly locked gate which would lead to the secret passage in the House of Dementia Private Gardens. There is a button to open this gate at the back of the room and to the side. It's quite possible to get into the Private Gardens via Xirethard. Unfortunately though, you can't get out again because both doors need a key and you can't trigger the statue, only the Duchess can. To escape the gardens, you need a way to injure yourself (self-damaging spell/poisonous ingredient or potion/summon), and you must have completed the main quest. Cast the power 'Sheogorath's Protection' (aquired at the end of the main quest), and start damaging your health by casting the spell, consuming the potion/ingredient, or attacking your summon until it fights back. You will be transported back to the Throne Room when you die, freeing you from the gardens.
- Two test zones related to this ruin didn't make it to the game. XPXirethard04 and XPXirethard05 are console codes for two Ayleid Ruin-like areas both called "Xirethard" that link to each other but nothing else.
- This ruin contains 2 Root Stalk plants and 4 Withering Moon plants.

Zone 3: Xirethard, Subterrane
The 'Xirethard Subterrane' is populated by Shambles rather than Dark Seducers. There are a few different sections of falling ceiling, and one area with more spell-firing Hunger statues. A door from the far side of this zone leads out the "main" entrance into the Dementia side of the Isles, on a peninsula of land just west of New Sheoth. The outside of the exit is guarded by more Dark Seducers, again automatically hostile to you, unless you have chosen and completed the related quest.
There are two different rooms with steps going down an open square hole in the middle of the floor. One of these rooms has a large amount of candles entirely surrounding the hole/steps. In the far left dark corner, on top of a pile of rubble, is a unique chest and easter egg called the 'Dark Chest of Wonders'. Inside can be found the 'Ring of Oceanborn'. Both chest and ring pertain to a real music group, more information can be found about it at Easter Eggs.
There is a dead-end with three cells, two of which contain Shambles. In the middle cell with one of the Shambles, a semi-hidden button found in the far right corner on a pedestal, hides a passageway to a small hallway. Inside is one lonely Zealot and a pit-trap activated by switch. As a small reward, there are two large urns, one with semi-decent loot and one with boss leveled loot.
