Contract carried by thugs

Walkthrough[edit]

If you steal an item, the victim of the theft may subsequently send a number (generally three) of hired thugs to hunt you down. They will casually approach you, but be ready because they will attack you after speaking to you. The thugs will be carrying a contract which reveals the name of the victim who hired the thugs.

Notes[edit]

  • The item in question can either be stolen from a location or pickpocketed, and you do not have to be seen; an unnoticed theft can still activate the contract. Furthermore, the contract can be from someone who is related to or affiliated with the one you stole from (not the NPC themselves).
  • Almost every NPC in the game can send thugs after you.
  • Other than stealing, killing someone may also cause a relative to send thugs after you (see Revenge, Hired Thugs).

Bugs[edit]

  • If you steal an item from someone and kill them straight afterwards, they can still hire thugs to come after you (e.g., a dead Forsworn Briarheart may take out a contract on you for pickpocketing his heart).
  • A theft contract may be mistakenly assigned in place of a murder contract. ?

Quest Stages[edit]

  • All of the quest stages are empty: 0, 10, 200.
Notes
  • Any text displayed in angle brackets (e.g., <Alias=LocationHold>) is dynamically set by the Radiant Quest system, and will be filled in with the appropriate word(s) when seen in game.
  • Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
  • Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
  • If an entry is marked as "Finishes Quest" it means the quest disappears from the Active Quest list, but you may still receive new entries for that quest.
  • On the PC, it is possible to use the console to advance through the quest by entering setstage WIAddItem03 stage, where stage is the number of the stage you wish to complete. It is not possible to un-complete (i.e. go back) quest stages, but it is possible to clear all stages of the quest using resetquest WIAddItem03.
