Camilla Valerius is at the center of a love triangle

Quick Walkthrough

1. (Optional) Learn about the love triangle from town people.
2. Talk to Sven or Faendal about the love triangle.
   • Optional: Talk to the other man involved in the love triangle (Sven if you talked to Faendal first and vice versa).
3. Give the letter to Camilla Valerius.
4. Return to the man you decided to help to finish the quest.

Detailed Walkthrough

Sven asks you to deliver a forged letter supposedly written by Faendal, or Faendal asks you to deliver a forged letter supposedly written by Sven, to Camilla Valerius. She is usually at the Riverwood Trader, but at night she can sometimes be found at the Sleeping Giant Inn.

Instead of giving Camilla this letter, you can tell the other man about it. In turn, he forges a letter supposedly written by the other and asks you to deliver it to Camilla instead. Alternately, you could choose the third option: telling Camilla it's fake. No matter which way you choose, you always get 25 gold and you'll be able to choose the one you've helped as follower.

It is also possible to pickpocket one's letter off of the other and produce both letters to Camilla. Then she will hate both of them.

Notes

Faendal's fake letter says: My Dearest Camilla, I yearn to have you as my own, Washing my linens, And my fine blond hair, To cook my dinner from my stove, And tend to my house while I wander. Yours truly, Sven

Sven's fake letter reads: Dear Camilla, I know I have called upon you at your house many times, and while we may be growing close, I need you to put any desires you may have for me aside. I am a true-born son of Valenwood, and I could never befoul my bloodline by courting an Imperial. I hope we can remain true friends, provided you understand your people's place in the Aldmeri Dominion, and respect me as such. Sincerely, Faendal

• Faendal makes a good follower because he is a marksman trainer. You can train Archery and later retrieve all the money you spent on the training from his inventory.
• It is not possible to complete this quest in a manner that has both Sven and Faendal as followers and to have their dispositions friendly towards you.
• In a particularly sneaky move, you can marry Camilla yourself after completing The Golden Claw quest. Strangely enough, marrying her does not solve this quest. Solving this quest after marrying Camilla will cause the 'winner' to appear at your house, should Camilla have moved in.

Notes

• Any text displayed in angle brackets (e.g., <Alias=LocationHold>) is dynamically set by the Radiant Quest system, and will be filled in with the appropriate word(s) when seen in game.
• Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
• Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
• If an entry is marked as "Finishes Quest" it means the quest disappears from the Active Quest list, but you may still receive new entries for that quest.
• On the PC, it is possible to use the console to advance through the quest by entering setstage FreeformRiverwood01 stage, where stage is the number of the stage you wish to complete. It is not possible to un-complete (i.e. go back) quest stages, but it is possible to clear all stages of the quest using resetquest FreeformRiverwood01.
