Anise's Cabin

Anise's Cabin is a small, open cabin near where the White River meets Lake Ilinalta.

This cabin may be one of the first inhabited locations you encounter upon escaping from Helgen. The sole occupant is an elderly woman named Anise. The cabin is kept in poor condition.

The surrounding wilderness often contains friendly hunters or hostile bandits. The latter may engage her in combat, in which case she will use flame spells and may summon a familiar. There are many harvestable mountain flowers around her cabin and a small vegetable garden next to the entrance consisting mostly of potatoes.

There are a large number of alchemical ingredients laying about her cabin and a copy of the Alchemy skill book Song of the Alchemists on the table at the foot of her bed. The real point of interest though is a hay-covered trap door in the corner of the room that leads to a secret cellar. Entering it will cause Anise to become hostile due to the secrets held within.

A note in the cellar reveals that Anise is a witch, and intends on starting a coven with her sister and someone named Helgi. There is an arcane enchanter and an alchemy lab in the basement as well as more potions and ingredients used for alchemical study. When you leave the cellar, you'll find Anise outside, waiting to attack as she yells "Fool! None may know my secret!"

  • Anise may appear and attack you when you exit the cellar regardless of whether or not you were detected when picking the lock or entering.
  • The cabin's basement is non-respawning, meaning that all containers are safe for storage. Several of the containers on the ground floor of the cabin are also standard safe containers (e.g., the cupboard and dresser). Be careful, as the barrels are not safe.
    • This makes Anise's cabin a good starter home, since it has an alchemy lab, an arcane enchanter, a bed, safe storage, and is a fast travel destination. However, you cannot ask a spouse to move here.
