Inside the Arch-Mage's Quarters

The Arch-Mage's Quarters is the area within the College of Winterhold in which its current Arch-Mage resides.

The room contains an arcane enchanter and an alchemy lab that can be freely used. There are also plenty of soul gems, many alchemical ingredients, and a central garden area containing many plants that can be harvested. However, taking any of these items is considered stealing until you become the Arch-Mage, although taking them in plain sight does not incur a bounty. ^{[verification needed]}

Notes

• The Arch-Mage's Quarters are locked until the quest Under Saarthal has been completed. Prior to that point, Savos Aren is either in the central courtyard of the College of Winterhold (night) or just inside the door to the Hall of the Elements (day).
• The Arch-Mage's Quarters are also locked until you speak to Tolfdir during the quest Good Intentions.
• An unusual gem can be found here.
• A pair of boots enchanted with 40% shock resistance can be found on a cupboard near the bed, although taking them is considered stealing until you become the Arch-Mage.
• All of the containers are safe to store items in.^{[verification needed]}

Bugs

• Sleeping in the bed as Arch-Mage will not result in being well rested.
  • This bug is fixed by version 1.0 of the Unofficial Skyrim Patch.
