Bthardamz is a Dwarven ruin located west-northwest of Karthwasten.

A door across a ramp above requires a key. The gate at the bottom leads to an overgrown doorway. Neither can be accessed without following the related quest.

[edit] Zone 1: Bthardamz Upper District

A map of Bthardamz Upper District

The first room has a chest on the table and a potion on the other table then continue down the stairs. The novice gate on the right allows you to bypass the sleeping area with a few afflicted but they are in bed and easily killed by sneaking up on them. Continue down the hall - the room on the right with a locked Adept gate which has a chest behind it. Further down the hall are three afflicted praying in a large room - easy targets for a bow. The next large room will have four afflicted in it - dispatch them then go up to the dais on the right to pull a lever to open the gate. There is a gold ore vein near the left ramp before going through the gate.

In the next room go down the stairs to find the chest on the wall then open the door. The room straight ahead has two Dwarven Spheres but you can hide in the middle and kill them as you wish. Once they are dead there is a chest on the wall where they came out. The ramp down has a spinning trap, and is patrolled by two afflicted. The trap may kill one or both of the afflicted before you reach them. The next large room has four afflicted - get the potion on the left then open the door to enter Bthardamz Workshop.

[edit] Zone 2: Bthardamz Workshop

The first area has two afflicted. When you enter the next room there is a chest on your left - when you open it a Dwarven Spider will attack you - When you enter the middle of the room three Dwarven Spider Workers will attack you. The room on the right has two afflicted and a chest. Both the door at the top of stairs and the door in the area to the right will take you back to the Bthardamz Upper District but the door at top of the stairs has a chest and a potion.

[edit] Zone 3: Bthardamz Dwelling

A map of Bthardamz Dwelling

The first area has four Afflicted. As you make your way up the stairs there is a door on the right that takes you to a one-room, partitioned Bthardamz Dwelling. Two Afflicted Nords, a brother and sister from the Reach who had been seeking to be closer to Peryite, can be found here. If you sneak in and wait a moment, you may hear the sister voice her regrets to her sleeping brother about believing in Orchendor and his promises, as she does not feel Peryite's favor and sees no way out of their situation. There are two chests in this room: one is behind a locked gate, out of sight of the Afflicted, on a table next to a copy of the Speech skill book Biography of the Wolf Queen, and the other, which contains a small amount of gold and possibly some other negligible loot, is next to the two Afflicted. Upon exiting the Dwelling, take a left at the top of the stairs and off to the right is a chest. Continue up to reenter the Bthardamz Lower District, but first, check the roofs of the buildings below for another chest and a gold ore vein on a ledge.

[edit] Zone 4: Bthardamz Lower District

A map of Bthardamz Lower District

In the first room open the gate on the left to find a chest, as you near the first turn in the hall two Dwarven Spiders will attack. Open the door and kill the three afflicted and claim the chest - the lever activates traps. Move through the area to the waterfall room to confront two afflicted. When the path first turns to the right, jump into the stream and follow the left bank upstream, jumping up the rocks as needed, you will find a skeleton and a chest hidden behind a wall. Through the open gate two Dwarven Spheres will attack. There is a trap in the middle of the path along with three afflicted - the small room to the right has a chest. Head to the right where there is a gold ore vein and a stair with two Dwarven Spider Workers on top. Beyond that is the door to the Bthardamz Study.

After you come back from the study, walk down the first ramp and open the gate on the right to find a chest. As you come back out of the gate, look to your left at a ledge on the building you just exited to see another chest, which is accessible by jumping on the nearby rooftop. As you approach the waterfall four afflicted will come from the right. On top of the dais is another three afflicted and a chest. Move down the hall to enter the Bthardamz Arcanex

[edit] Zone 5: Bthardamz Study

Open the gate in front of you to find a chest then open the door. Avoid the pressure plate at the bottom of the stairs and kill the Dwarven Sphere Master at the top of the stairs. Open the gate and search the chest in front of you before ascending the stairs back to the Bthardamz Lower District.

[edit] Zone 6: Bthardamz Arcanex

A map of Bthardamz Arcanex

The first area has two Dwarven Spheres and three Dwarven Spiders - dispatch them and search the chest mid-way up the stairs. At the top of the stairs a Dwarven Centurion will come out of the hall. There is a quicksilver vein on the left. Continue down the hall and some stairs and past some crossbows to find three Dwarven Spider Workers to find Orchendor. Kill him. Then head up the stairs to find a chest and the elevator to Skyrim.

[edit] Bugs

  • After you kill Orchendor, his body may disappear, making it impossible to retrieve the key for the elevator. ?
    • To fix this, simply go back to the door you used to enter Bthardamz Arcanex, enter Bthardamz Lower District, and re-enter Arcanex. You should find his body lying where you killed him.
  • At the overgrown door it is possible to pull the lever to open the gate and run inside without having started the quest. Once this is done, there is no chain release and you can get trapped. The only way out is to fast travel. ?
  • The lever at the entrance may not lower the bars. ?
    • Reloading a save may fix this.
