Detailed Walkthrough

After completing The Man Who Cried Wolf, talk to Elisif, Jarl of Solitude. She needs someone reliable to do something personal for her regarding her late husband, High King Torygg. She will tell you, "When we buried my husband I made offerings to all the gods... except Talos." This is because Talos worship is outlawed in the Empire. She would like you to take Torygg's War Horn and place it at a Shrine of Talos. Although she doesn't worship Talos herself, her husband would have wanted a proper Nordic burial done in this fashion.

Travel to the Shrine of Talos in the wilderness of Whiterun Hold, due north of The Ritual Stone. Follow the path near Shimmermist Cave, along the northern bank of the river, and you can find the shrine behind some trees. You can find a few gold, a satchel and some leveled items there, including a greatsword, a dagger, a helmet and a soul gem. Place the war horn in front of the statue of Talos. Once the horn is placed, you are free to take the unique war horn away at any time and it will no longer be marked as a quest item. It won't affect the quest progress.

Return to Elisif at the Blue Palace and she will allow you to purchase Proudspire Manor and take the next step to becoming a Thane.

Notes

• Prior to completing the prerequisite quest, the horn can be pickpocketed from the Jarl of Solitude. It will be marked as a quest item and cannot be removed from your inventory before completing Elisif's Tribute.

Notes

• Any text displayed in angle brackets (e.g., <Alias=LocationHold>) is dynamically set by the Radiant Quest system, and will be filled in with the appropriate word(s) when seen in game.
• Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
• Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
• If an entry is marked as "Finishes Quest" it means the quest disappears from the Active Quest list, but you may still receive new entries for that quest.
• On the PC, it is possible to use the console to advance through the quest by entering setstage SolitudeFreeform07 stage, where stage is the number of the stage you wish to complete. It is not possible to un-complete (i.e. go back) quest stages, but it is possible to clear all stages of the quest using resetquest SolitudeFreeform07.
