Inner Sanctum is a relatively well-preserved portion of the Chantry of Auri-El located within the Forgotten Vale.
On entering, you see a number of frozen Falmer in a large room, with a token of Auri-El in the center. A number of these white statues hold items of interest. Taking one of these will activate a frozen Falmer which will attack. A furious melee can result in striking other such, who will spring to action as well. One of them holds a random expert level spell tome.
Off to the left is the first of several portal activation pedestals. Each is about waist-high, with a sun symbol. Place the Initiate's Ewer on it and the portal opens. To proceed, you will need to snatch back this Ewer and duck back inside, since the Ewer is used to open further portals.
On entry, follow the short corridor to a gate. Behind this is a frost giant, large and pale. On his defeat open the next portal, behind which lay several treasures.
Returning to the main chamber, head through the gate. The following areas contain more frozen Falmer. Eventually you arrive at a breach in the masonry, beyond which is an icy cavern. Go through this and into the next area.
An otherwise inaccessible area of the Inner Sanctum may be reached via the Paragon Portal using the Sapphire Paragon. It contains three chests, many gems, and some various Elven equipment.

[edit] Bugs
- If you have multiple followers (personal or quest-related), such as armored trolls, or permanently conjured beasts, or zombies, they may require some "coaxing" in order to follow you past various portals. A combination of waiting, saving, and reloading will resolve this—eventually. ?
