Karliah

Karliah is a Dunmer member of the Nightingale Sentinels. She is also a former member of Skyrim's Thieves Guild but has spent the last twenty-five years in exile after allegedly murdering the former Guildmaster, and lover, Gallus. She will eventually become a quest giver and temporary companion to the Dragonborn after advancing in the Thieves Guild questline.

She is the only Dunmer in the game with purple, instead of the standard Dark Elf red, eyes. This, combined with her light brown hair (at present only viewable through console commands) has led to speculation that she might be only part Dark Elf. However, Avrusa Sarethi also has light brown hair, as does her sister Aduri Sarethi. Both, however, have solid white eyes, rather than Karliah's distinctive purple eyes.

[edit] History

According to the in-game book The Nightingales Vol.2, Karliah's maternal grandparents were Queen Barenziah and a Nightingale thief named Dreyven Indoril. They had a daughter, Dralsi, who was taught the ways of the Nightingales by her father. Dralsi eventually got married and had a child she named Karliah. There is no further information on Karliah's father in the book.

Like Dralsi's father did for her, Dralsi taught Karliah the art of thievery and how to survive in Skyrim living as a rogue. Dralsi did not, however, induct Karliah into the Nightingales before her death - this was done by Gallus, an acquaintance of Dralsi and later, Karliah's lover.

[edit] Notes

  • Sometimes when leaving Snow Veil Sanctum a frost troll will have wandered near her camp. She can become stuck in her conversation because of this, reloading an earlier save and killing the troll before she progresses through her dialogue solves the problem.

[edit] Bugs

  • If you at the end of the thieves guild quest line are unable to find Karliah in the Nightingale Hall, it is most likely caused by not completing enough sidequests for Vex or Delvin. If this is the case, you will instead find Karliah at the very end of the Snow Veil Sanctum, the place where she shot you. The actual bug is apparently caused by the quest Under New Management never starting, so it might be possible to fix this issue using the console command setstage TGLeadership 50. It has been tested with the NPC in Snow Veil Sanctum and Karliah has been teleported inside Nightingale Hall, moving after few hours inside The Ragged Flagon - Cistern.
  • Karliah may also be found stuck in a wait package in the cellar of The Frozen Hearth in Winterhold.
    • This bug may be caused by going back to the Dwemer Mueseum, but this bug also occurs to players who never come back to the museum after that quest. One way to fix this issue is to redo the previous quest (get the rubbing and return to the cellar of The Frozen Hearth) and she will be unstuck. Go through the dialog, then wait 24 hours before meeting her at The Ragged Flagon. This has worked for Xbox 360.
