Kilkreath Ruins is a temple dedicated to Meridia, situated below the Statue to Meridia, that is only used for the quest The Break of Dawn. This is the only place in Skyrim that the player can encounter Corrupted Shades. The ruins are unique as the player needs to activate many pedestals, which redirect a beam of light, to progress through the ruins.

[edit] Notes
- A copy of the Block skill book Battle of Red Mountain can be found in a bookcase in a corner just before lighting the final beacon.
- There are 43 desecrated corpses throughout this ruin that contain large amounts of gold. If you loot them all, you can get an amount of gold in the range of 1075-5375.

[edit] Exterior
Outside is the Statue to Meridia which, by activating the gem pedestal, will send you on a Daedric quest. Just uphill to the northeast of the statue is a word wall with the Elemental Fury shout. Leading up to the entrance to the ruins are obelisks with refracting gems sitting atop them, which are used in the quest, The Break of Dawn.
[edit] Zone 1: Kilkreath Temple
In each room of the temple you will need to activate the pedestals to redirect the beam of light, opening the path forward. The only enemies you will encounter are Corrupted Shades. They become more numerous as you progress. There are also several chests, potions and a large number of desecrated corpses to loot on the way, which all have a good chance of having a lot of gold on them. At the end of the ruins, you venture outside to a balcony, from which you can see the road to the south. An expert locked chest is there, on the way to the next section, Kilkreath Ruins.
[edit] Zone 2: Kilkreath Ruins
Kilkreath Ruins are more of the same, but with more Shades. You will come to a large room with a caged walkway above. You need to work your way around this room, activating the pedestals to open the doors. After activating the pedestal at the top of this room, the door at the bottom will open, revealing a short flight of stairs and a door leading to Kilkreath Catacombs.
[edit] Zone 3: Kilkreath Catacombs
The catacombs have one final pedestal to activate, which opens a door leading to a mid-size room where an extemely powerful necromance, Malkoran waits, with several Corrupted Shades. To your right as you enter the room is a leveled Paralysis Poison, easily obtained since nothing is looking towards the door, and can be quite helpful. After Malkoran has been killed, the one handed sword and Daedric Artifact, Dawnbreaker will appear on the pedestal at the end of the room. Pressure Plates: One West, two North, two West ,one South, two West, three North, two West, two South, two West, two North. Then activate the chain.
