Steamscorch Mine is a small malachite mine south of Windhelm.
It contains seven veins of malachite and is worked by the residents of Kynesgrove, the town in which the mine resides. Like the Goldenrock Mine at Darkwater Crossing, Steamscorch does not have its own waypoint and is located just northeast of the Braidwood Inn. North of the inn is a small path which breaks off from the main road to the East and leads up a hill right to the entrance of the mine. There is a dragon burial mound (related to the quest A Blade in the Dark) right next to Kynesgrove and dragons can be frequently found flying overhead when heading to the mine. There are no hostiles at the mine, aside from the dragon, making it a safe place for lower level characters. Kjeld will buy malachite ore from you.

[edit] Exterior
Outside the mine is a smelter for your convenience, three owned malachite ingots, and one owned chunk of malachite ore.
[edit] Interior
Inside the mine are 7 veins of malachite ore (
) and 21 harvest points of Fly Amanita. The first two veins are just inside the mine on either side of the main path, the other five are deeper in. After opening up to a small room with a table where NPCs will occasionally sit and take breaks, the mine will split into two parallel corridors. The left does not immediately lead to any malachite veins and will connect with the other path a short way down. The right corridor will lead to the remaining five veins: one in a side hall, two in the room at the end of the hall, and two more accessed by the scaffolding in the same room. A copy of the Enchanting skill book Catalogue of Armor Enchantments may be found on the table (A), an empty chest sits in the main corridor, and a few flavor items are placed throughout none of which appear to be claimed.
The mine is worked by a few NPCs (which can prove bothersome) and is often patrolled by Dravynea the Stoneweaver, a Dunmer mage. She resides at the nearby inn and offers a miscellaneous quest to bring her frost salts in return for training in the school of Alteration. Dravynea also states it is her job to keep the mine safe and prevent it from collapsing.
