Why He Died[edit]

I just got a courier delivering a message saying that he has passed away and I was the inheritance-owner (not sure how to say that in English). I got 100 gold! Paltry sum to lose such a fine NPC. :( Wonder why he died... — Unsigned comment by 62.194.211.88 (talk) at 09:05 on 16 November 2011

Age and poor living conditions, probably. Angrenor was old and Windhelm is a harsh place to live in. He's also a marriage prospect, by the way, and his condition improves noticeably if you drag him to live with you in a less harsh environment. He also turns out to be a big softy underneath the bragging, boasting tough-guy exterior. There's worse prospects for a female to marry... 89.189.38.226 11:59, 17 November 2011 (UTC)
Never really met Angrenor Once-honored, which doesn't make sense why I was met by a courier who granted me the inheritance. I don't know what kind of a key character he is or maybe its just one of those things that happens after so many hours into the game. I was working on the Stormcloak storyline when I received the message. Weird, but it was free gold. — Unsigned comment by 50.102.15.249 (talk) at 16:56 on 26 November 2011
I just found his dead body just inside the windhelm gates, there is no reason as to why he died, i had finished the stormcloaks quests and just then finished innocence lost. (Eddie The Head 15:00, 4 January 2012 (UTC))
Same here, found his body in exactly the same place. My character is at level 61, but I haven't bothered with either the Imperial or Stormcloak quests. --174.6.51.17 08:12, 7 March 2012 (UTC)
He was the only victim when a dragon attacked Windhelm, right after I killed Ulfric. Also, I killed him myself, once. But otherwise, I don't think there's anything that would kill him. A bug maybe? Sometimes when you enter a cell, some people (and creatures alike) will spawn at dangerous heights and, when landing, will most probably die. 82.243.194.53 09:18, 9 January 2012 (UTC)
I was walking out of Candleheart Hall when I heard (and read in the subtitles) him dying... I guess he dies of somekind of decease or something. I walked around all Windhelm but I couldn't find him though. I never talked to him, just passed by him a couple times to hear his "sword to the chest" commentary. 188.81.41.123 18:13, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
Found his headless corpse on the street behind Candlehearth, and I know I didn't kill him. This is after winning the war for the Imperials and starting (but not completing) Innocence Lost. Wasn't within earshot to hear the fight - if there was one. Possibly an imperial guard does him in for a faction conflict, as his dialogue implies he's a former Stormcloak warrior? Or he attacks an imperial guard, and dies trying? No clue, but it's repeatable. Win the war for the Imperials, and sooner or later, the man WILL turn up dead. Further info: When someone gets killed as fallout of a different scrap (like a guard shoots at a thief or vice-versa and a bystander is killed in the crossfire), usually the guards will later accuse you of the death if they catch you standing by the corpse. Stood and waited by the corpse, guards had no response. My guess at this point is the guards killed him. 67.0.4.242 08:46, 2 September 2013 (GMT)

() I'm not 100% sure, but it might be Vampire attacks with the Dawnguard official-plug-in installed. Guard of DragonsSpeak To Me 11:05, 2 September 2013 (GMT)

Played my game last night, went back into Windhelm and found Angrenor Once-Honored DEAD. Vampire attack. Anyone know if he respawns, or if he's dead period ? Wheelman_23

Sword through the chest?[edit]

After completing the civil war quest line as the Imperials, I went back to Windhelm to start the Dark Brotherhood quest line. I walked past this guy, Angrenor Once-Honored and he said something like this: "I was the pride of the Stormcloak army, then I took a sword to the chest". Is this a reference to the 'I used to be an adventurer...' line?

no, bethesda never intented to have arrow through the knee turn into an extremely annoying meme. (Eddie The Head 05:00, 11 January 2012 (UTC))
Doesn't he actually say, 'I used to be one of the best soldiers in the Stormcloak army, 'til that Imperial craven ran me through from behind.' — Unsigned comment by 139.190.110.197 (talk) on 6 April 2012

Key[edit]

I removed the following from the page:

He carries around a key to the Arentino Residence. The reason for this is not yet known.

I tried pickpocketing, then killing and looting him and could not find the key on him. The game data doesn't seem to support him carrying the key either. --Alfwyn 14:57, 17 January 2012 (UTC)

I just checked my game and he has the key on one of my characters but not on the others. The only reason I can think of is that I have done the Dark Brotherhood quests on that char. — Kimi the Elf (talk | contribs) 15:09, 17 January 2012 (UTC)
I added it back to the page. After I completed the kids quest he now has the key. Im not sure why tho. — Kimi the Elf (talk | contribs) 15:45, 17 January 2012 (UTC)
Thanks, that quest seems to be indeed the trigger. --Alfwyn 16:04, 17 January 2012 (UTC)

Grind that never ends..[edit]

Once married, Angrenor will still beg for money, even if he is living at your home. What a king..
