Dragon Encounter and Unclearable[edit]

I encountered a dragon here. — Unsigned comment by 222.159.83.231 (talk) at 07:48 on 17 December 2011

I encountered a Blood Dragon here. After defeating the Dragon, defeating all Undead and reading the book on top of the tower no "cleared" mark on the map shows up. It remains uncleared.Shub 13:48, 8 January 2012 (UTC)
I'm not able to get a cleared flag, too. Seems not clearable to me. --Killfetzer 14:07, 8 January 2012 (UTC)
Dragon is always in this area. I got an Elder Dragon at level 37. Also of some note I did get the "Dungeon Cleared" Music and it added 1 to my cleared count in stats but doesn't add the Cleared flag on the map. I'm on the 360. Lord Eydvar 04:33, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
If you have the Deadly Dragons full mod (not just vanilla) you can encounter a Zealot of Akatosh here, I'm guessing Legendary and Ancient Dragons are also possible. (Level 81) There are also two times that the "Cleared" music can be played, and it can get confusing for one who doesn't know what is what. If you clear the dungeon of mobs, etc. you get the normal dungeon cleared music. If you find all the secrets / treasure locations, you get a different clear music on top of that (when you find the last secret.) 71.90.29.200 18:12, 14 August 2012 (UTC)

Clearing[edit]

I moved the following from the article --Alfwyn 19:11, 10 January 2012 (UTC):

Arcwind Point cannot be cleared but can be cleared on PC via the use of console commands and the help function, to properly ascertain the location id for this zone yourself you would type into your console "help arcwind 0" and then use that location code listed from the command under "LCTN" in the command "setlocationcleared (LCTN)"
The particular code for clearing Arcwind point is "setlocationcleared 000fd685 1"
Confirmed from game data that it cannot be cleared: it does not have a boss. --NepheleTalk 03:42, 18 March 2012 (UTC)

At least one guaranteed Draugr Death Overlord[edit]

Visited Arcwind Point at L15. There was one Draugr Overlord and one Draugr Death Overlord present. The Death Overlord was in the casket behind the swinging log trap at the top of the large staircase on the north side. Seeing as this enemy is usually not seen until much later (L30's+) this should be noted as an out of sync encounter. 24.156.216.144 21:54, 29 January 2012 (UTC)

I also encountered a Draugr Death Overlord here on my newest character, at only Level 17, and he dropped an Ebony Blade. I haven't even done the dragon rising quest yet. 67.189.182.125 01:32, 30 August 2012 (UTC)

Dragon Priest[edit]

Is there really a dragon priest in central structure sarcophagus? I visited it at L38 and encountered Draugr Scourge Lord and Elder Dragon. — Unsigned comment by 118.71.68.150 (talk) at 06:51 on 29 February 2012

I visited at level 31 and also encountered a Scourge Lord here; it seems to be leveled and/or have an element of randomness. I did encounter the Death Overlord behind the swinging log trap, however. GrogGrogGrog 21:06, 18 March 2012 (UTC)
Every last creature at Arcwind Point is levelled. Robin Hoodtalk 21:42, 18 March 2012 (UTC)
So if everything is leveled, does that mean there's never a Dragon Priest there? Or that one will appear after a certain level? And that this information should be changed in the article? I'm at level 50, and encountered a Death Overlord (behind the swinging log trap) and mostly Death Lords otherwise. Obax 05:20, 30 June 2012 (UTC)
According to the Draugr page on this site Dragon Priests begin appearing at level 60, though I have recently found one at level 51(in a dawnguard dungeon) so there may be some wiggle room AzureKing 19:57, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
Level 81 character on the Xbox 360, just found a Dragon Priest in the middle sarcophagus.Agmen (talk) 00:04, 18 December 2012 (GMT)

Word Wall (with Dawnguard)[edit]

Just thought I'd mention that this is a location for a word wall once Dawnguard has been downloaded. I was sent here by Arngeir when I asked him about locations of power, or however it's worded, meaning it showed up in my journal as a miscellaneous quest. Also, once I got the word, the quest did not clear from my journal. Obax 04:59, 30 June 2012 (UTC)

I had the same issue, and now arngeir won't give me any more locations! Is there a fix for this on 360? — Unsigned comment by 86.26.196.213 (talk) at 11:23 on 28 July 2012
Same here. Sent by Arngeir, got the WoP, but journal didn't update. Haven't checked back with Arngeir, but I'm sure he won't be giving me new WoP quests since I still have an "active" one. Sounds like a bug to me. username12345 11:03, 1 August 2012 (UTC)
Same here on the PC. Quest not clearing. Anybody heard of a fix/pathc ? Is it a known issue ? — Unsigned comment by 93.24.185.125 (talk) at 16:14 on 7 August 2012
If you are playing on the PC, and encounter the above bug, there is a fix. To complete the quest, open your console and type "SetStage FreeFormHighHrothgarA 20" (without quotations). This will advance the objective to become complete.
However, if you have already found the Word of Power at Arcwind Point before Arngeir gives you the "Find the Word of Power in Archwind Point" miscellanous quest, then the quest may be unachievable due to the word wall already being empty. — Unsigned comment by 72.229.117.16 (talk) at 20:00 on 8 August 2012
Same. Quest is not clearing for Arngeir. — Unsigned comment by 74.182.46.220 (talk) at 11:26 on 12 August 2012
Thanks for the help! The console code worked! 173.69.57.154 22:21, 29 August 2012 (UTC)

() I got mine to work xbox360 by uninstalling hearthfire and redownloading latest patch. — Unsigned comment by 90.200.13.38 (talk) at 18:22 on 30 September 2012

I got mine to work xbox360 by saving my game at arcwind and then going to dashboard next i uninstall dawnguard and start my game up and it loads the game with me still at arcwind but no WOP available so i save game again so that it is saved without dawnguard. I then reinstall dawnguard and start up my game. Once this is all done accept prompt to get update. I then continued game from last save and i notice the word wall had music this time but also 3 words to learn and the same story as before when approached its not allowing quest to complete. So by pure chance i fast travelled away to any place away from arcwind causing a loadup screen when i start to play again i fast travel back to arcwind and notice that there is only 1 word on the stone and when i approach it i learn the word and game reports Find word of power at arcwind point is complete and it also disappears form my journal. I think whats happening is there is a bug where the game puts a word you have already learned onto the stone and it causes the quest to be uncompleteable i found that if u fast travel to another place the game changes the word of power and thus makes the quest complete. — Unsigned comment by 90.200.13.167 (talk) at 04:42 on 7 October 2012
Also, you will be doing quests from Dawnguard all over again, having to go to them, join, find Selana, rescue her etc, etc. — Unsigned comment by 68.50.28.27 (talk) at 22:32 on 6 November 2012 (GMT)
I just uninstalled and reinstalled Dawngaurd because of this very glitch bug. Now I saved having deleted the expansion to get Arcwind Point out of my journal. However when I reinstalled it I got an update: "Completed: Find the Word of Power in Arcwind Point" This came right after getting the word of power from the Word Wall in the cave where you find Serana. Only thing the quest wasn't in my quest log at the time. Very Buggy. --67.185.108.121 19:18, 2 February 2013 (GMT)
Even though this bug is supposed to be cleared by the Unofficial Dawnguard Patch, I have always had trouble with this quest in several play-throughs and reinstalls. Today, I got the quest again. It was the first dished out by Arngier after talking with Paarthurnax. Before I could get there, however, I went to NORTHwind Point. When I got the word from that wall (Seek, Aura, Whisper) The ARCwind Point quest cleared. Now this could mean two things: 1. Programmers confused ARCwind with NORTHwind, or 2. Visiting any word wall before Arcwind will clear the quest. I will add this to the Bugs Section. Ewaldorph (talk) 05:37, 2 May 2013 (GMT)
I would be interested to hear if this works for anybody else.--Ewaldorph (talk) 17:40, 2 May 2013 (GMT)

() Learning the Northwind Summit word completes my quest to find the word of power in Autumnwatch tower. Maybe it's just that any word of power quest can be completed when any wall with a new word is visited. Though that may confuse Arngeir a bit and make him send your to place you've been to. Weathereye (talk) 08:56, 7 June 2013 (GMT)

I had the same glitch. With Dawnguard installed, Arngier told me to learn the WOP at Arcwind, which I did, but the quest never updated as having been completed. After reading this, I went to Northwind without uninstalling anything, learned the word at Northwind and was told that my Arcwind quest was completed.76.111.170.107 03:06, 10 September 2013 (GMT)
Worked for me too. It's been many, many hours of gameplay since I got the quest(and got the word from Arcwind Point), and I've gotten many, many words of power since then. So I'm willing to bet it is just Northwind Summit that works to clear the quest. Is there anyway for people on PC to check the quest? Maybe the quest incorrectly makes Northwind Summit the word wall needed to complete the quest? Another question, is there any instance of someone getting the word at Northwind Summit and NOT having the quest complete? I feel like the wording in the article could be changed to make it more certain that this will work. It could also be added to the other pages that have this bug listed. — Unsigned comment by 71.94.100.239 (talk) at 02:48 on 17 September 2013 (GMT)
NORTHWIND SUMMIT confirmed on PC to fix Arcwind Word Wall Glitch - no code needed — Unsigned comment by 97.124.154.24 (talk) at 15:51 on 1 October 2013 (GMT)
I was able to clear the quest by going to Northwind Summit, however, I have just received the exact same quest again and because I used Northwind Summit to clear it the first time, I'm now stuck. (Xbox) — Unsigned comment by 68.46.84.76 (talk) at 01:10 on 10 January 2014 (GMT)

() I had the same problem. He sent me here for the word but it didn't complete the mission. I saved, uninstalled dawngard, loaded, saved again, reinstalled dawnguard and loaded again. Three words were there but were unobtainable. I fast traveled to arengar to see if he would send me off to another but he didnt. Then I fast traveled back to the word wall and the word was now there. I sucked it up and it completed the quest. Luckily, I hadn't done any dawngard quests yet. I'm also on the PS3. So I can confirm this method as possible. Cjesseg (talk) 06:24, 20 June 2014 (GMT)

() I had the same problem today on ps5 Skyrim Anniversary Edition. Got assigned the Arcwind Point quest by Argnier and could not complete the quest even after obtaining the shout at the word wall. (I was playing with a few basic mods as well.) I went to Northwind Summit and defeated the dragon there and obtained that word of power, which completed the Arcwind Point quest for me. Hopefully this helps anyone on ps5 or Xbox who comes across this issue!

Skeleton Ambush?[edit]

I had never been to ARcwind point until after I got Dawnguard, to get the last word of Drain Vitality. I went through, beating all the draugr, but when I left on foot, on the stairs leading up to the swinging log trap, around a half dozen incredibly weak skeletons starting rushing up. They were weak enough to be killed by anything, from a shield bash (without deadly bash) to fus on its own. Anybody else fight these things? 205.188.116.130 20:12, 23 July 2012 (UTC)

I did, so I can confirm them too. There are about 6~8 of them when I was level 81 on Master difficulty. 71.90.29.200 18:09, 14 August 2012 (UTC)

Graves[edit]

At the very top behind the building with the ram trap, is a little makeshift graveyard. Its very unusual, and there seems to be nothing to say why its there. Id like if someone else checked to see if im just mistaken before I add anything to the article. 74.132.249.206 23:23, 11 October 2012 (GMT)

It's there, and appeared to be similar to other outside graveyards where I've encountered skeletons before. As for WHY it's there, no idea - I didn't find anything.Agmen (talk) 00:06, 18 December 2012 (GMT)

Advice for new players?[edit]

It seems this place can contain powerful Draugr Death Overlords at fairly low levels (I encountered one at level 13), would it be worth mentioning on the first time players page as an early source of an ebony weapon? If they are capable of defeating it, an ebony sword could provide a huge advantage at low through to mid-levels, or even at high levels until they find something better. Norowane (talk) 22:23, 5 March 2013 (GMT)

I came here at level 9 and fought a Draugr Scourge Overlord who disapointingly had an Ancient Greatsword of Cold (5 frost dmg).
The potions i had to use were much more valuable. Ebony weapons clearly aren't gauranteed.

Words of Power quest[edit]

As mentioned in the bug section getting the word in Arcwind Point didn't complete the Word of Power quest. However I went to Northwind Summit, collected the word there, and to my surprise it completed the word of power quest in Arcwind point. — Unsigned comment by 37.24.155.43 (talk) at 22:46 on 15 June 2013 (GMT)

Thanks, this sounds like what two other users reported in another section of this talk page. I've merged two workaround notes for this bug on the article and removed the {{verification needed}} tag. Thanks for the info. :) — ABCface 11:24, 16 June 2013 (GMT)

Another bug[edit]

After being sent here by the Greybeards once already and getting the word and it not clearing, I was able to clear it by obtaining the Northwind Point word. However, sometime later, I was sent here a second time by them, the word having already been collected. The quest won't clear. Olioster (talk) 01:23, 13 July 2013 (GMT)

That isn't really another bug, its just the same bug as listed has occurred twice for you. It's unfortunate, and the only solution would be to load a save from before you got this location again and ask again. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 18:13, 29 July 2013 (GMT)

Cant learn the word of power[edit]

So i got the quest about taking the word of power from greybeards but I cant take the word of power. The word shines but I cant learn it. Does it has something to do with the fact that i only know the first word of power"gah" and the word of power from Arcwind Point"haas" is the third? The fix with traveling to northwind summit wont fix this issue form me because i have already learned the word of power from there. — Unsigned comment by Veacktor (talkcontribs) at 19:25 on 8 October 2013

There is not necessary to do the word walls in a specific order. Whichever one of the three word walls you visit first will always give you the first word, the second wall you visit will give you the second word and the last you visit will give the third word. There might be just a bug that sometimes occur. Have you tried to go back to an earlier save before getting the Word of Power quest to Arcwind Point and visit the wall without the quest? By the way: What platform are you playing? If pc, do you have any mods installed? Have you installed one or more of the unofficial patches? —MortenOSlash (talk) 19:25, 9 October 2013 (GMT)
what suck is i delete a lot of previous saves to prevent big lag and now i can't go back any saves so i gues ill never get new words of power till a fix comes out — Unsigned comment by 174.250.195.145 (talk) at 22:41 on 11 October 2013 (GMT)

Unofficial dawnguard patch has not corrected this bug[edit]

I have the unofficial skyrim and dawnguard patches enabled, plus all 3 words for the drain vitality shout. However I am still sent here by Arngeir and so cannot complete this quest or thus get any further new shout quests. Will try the setstage fix, however pls note the patch does not appear to have corrected this bug. — Unsigned comment by 124.168.66.66 (talk) at 04:31 on 29 December 2013 (GMT)

Is it possible to avoid the bugged quest: find the wop?[edit]

I haven't asked to the old guy (who lives in the mountain with the others old guys) to teach me new words of powers mainly because of the bug related to this place. My plan is to find the WOPs by my own. But the little couriers keep giving me this kind of quests, and I keep running away from them or killing them. Are these good ideas to avoid the infamous bug? — Unsigned comment by 187.216.232.37 (talk) at 05:32 on 21 July 2014

The couriers are delivering a letter related to the quest Shout - learn about word wall, not the WOP quest. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 18:02, 21 July 2014 (GMT)

Dragon flies away after Dragonrend[edit]

This was added by an anonymous user under the Bug section:

  • After using the Dragonrend shout on the dragon, it will fly away and won't respawn even after waiting 10 days.

I can not falsify directly, but in my experience the dragon at Arcwind Point sometimes land out of view of from the central parts of Arcwind Point. It might have done that and been killed off by draugr outside view when the anonymous played? —MortenOSlash (talk) 19:05, 14 August 2014 (GMT)

Possible Arngeir bug after using console commands?[edit]

I encountered this glitch as well. I had already found the WOP at Northwind Summitt, so I couldn't fix it via that method. I used the method actually found on this site, which is to use the console command to complete the quest and then use the second console command to clear the location. This actually worked on one of my playthroughs, but it will not work on this one. Talking to Arngeir again only yields the "there is only silence" response. I have waited 10 straight days and then followed that up with doing random quests, and he stil is only giving the "silence" reponse. Any advice on what to do here? — Unsigned comment by 96.19.96.74 (talk) at 19:18 on 17 December 2014 (GMT)

Word Wall issue on Xbox One Special Edition[edit]

So Arngier sent me to Arcwind Point and I learned the word there. As you can guess the quest marker didn't update. Going to Northwind Summit didn't fix the problem - I've already learned the word from that location.

So I thought I outsmart the system by learning the Arcwind Point word on my own by just going there without the quest. I loaded a previous save from about an hour (game play) prior to receiving the quest from Arngier, went to Arcwind Point and learned the word. So far so good.

But then when I went to Arngier the next time he then would send me to Arcwind Point to learn a word there! So needless to say I still got stuck - and Arngier will not give you any new locations as long as in this case Arcwind Point hasn't cleared.

The patch available is a little bit of a problem for those who want to get their achievements - the game doesn't know the difference between a mod that has the sole purpose of fixing issues and a mod that tweaks the game to the player's advantage (like 'god' mode, etc). And as soon as any mod has been loaded there are no more achievements for Skyrim on the Xbox One. — Unsigned comment by 205.143.3.36 (talk) at 15:37 on 20 August 2017 (UTC)

As I mentioned in the summary when I deleted your contribution as a necropost (meaning the discussion it was posted under was so old, you can not expect any of the participants of it to still read it), this has already been documented under the bug section of the page.
I have touched your achievement problem in my answer to your posting on the talk page about the unofficial patch. (Though unfortunately no help, I am afraid.) —MortenOSlash (talk) 18:21, 21 August 2017 (UTC)
