Only 4 quests?[edit]

Or are the rest just currently undocumented? And I don't like the idea of having weighted, irremovable instruments, so why is that listed as a benefit?-Zydrate[][] 16:12, 23 November 2011 (UTC)

Yep, only four quests - and three of them are bugged, so you will keep the items in your inventory indefinitely. I have no idea how the "benefits"-header came into play, but I changed it to "bugs". --Krusty 16:19, 23 November 2011 (UTC)
I get the feeling that this, along with Blackreach, were things that the developers cut short as they ran out of time before game launch. Todd-sama 11:49, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
I doubt that they just cut this short, I mean really unless you can actually play the instruments how much of a questline can a Bard's College have? Yeah 4 quests with 3 bugged ones is short but could be worse! As for Blackreach, whats wrong with with? It's got to be one of the largest dungeons in Elders Scrolls history! No Achievements?[edit]

Or just not listed? 178.183.247.238 09:04, 26 November 2011 (UTC)

Nothing; It would make sense considering there's only like 4 quests --130.157.33.52 04:50, 9 March 2012 (UTC)
Tending the Flames counts towards Sideways. Should we make a note of that maybe? --Morrolan (talk) 11:16, 21 April 2013 (GMT)

Investigate the Bards College[edit]

The quest "Investigate the Bards College" will not go away from my misc quest list. No matter how many times I talk to the leader where the quest indicator leads it will not go away. Very frustrating as it is the last quest I have to finish in my journal. Any ideas. Should be listed as a bug found several people with same problem on google search. PS3 CE. 50.101.137.66 12:21, 28 November 2011 (UTC)

That's odd. Just tested this (PS3 as well, but cheaper edition) and the Objective was removed immediately after initiating Tending the Flames. If you have a save from "back then", you may try and run a few tests, retrace your steps, just to trigger it again. --Krusty 12:28, 28 November 2011 (UTC)
The times I experienced that very issue, I was carrying King Olaf's Verse beforehand. I have found a workaround: type player.drop 000AE324 1 to take the book off your inventory, save, RESTART THE GAME, load that save and talk to Viarmo. Then you can pick up the book where you left it and carry on with the quest. It is very important that you restart the game because some information is not purged when you load a game within the same Skyrim "session", and loading without restarting will result in continuing the same troublesome state where the quest can't be finished.

Notable Items[edit]

There is a book upstairs in the Bards College that increases Speechcraft [The Buying Game]. — Unsigned comment by 72.94.197.122 (talk) at 17:41 on 8 December 2011

Bard College[edit]

Should there be a section that mentions the real life Bard College as a possible reference or easter egg? — Unsigned comment by 72.22.180.5 (talk) at 20:48 on 12 December 2011

I don't think so personally. Eric SnowmaneQuestions? 21:21, 12 December 2011 (UTC)
We already had that addition, and it doesn't really belong on the page - we'd much rather have more details of the contents of the College in the game. --Krusty 22:36, 12 December 2011 (UTC)

Bug? Or something?[edit]

I was running around the Bard's College in the wee hours (somewhere between 2 and 4 AM) and went all the way upstairs into the room with the bookshelves and lectern (not the one with instruments lying around). When I went and stood behind the lectern, I heard a jumble of voices, as if everyone in the college started talking at once, and it sounded loud as if they were all in the room with me, even though there was no one else in the room. From what I could tell, it was just casual conversation type stuff, like what they say as you pass by them. I went up there during the day, around 10 am, and stood behind the lectern, and heard nothing. I waited until midnight, and after leaving the room and entering again, it happened again as soon as I entered the room. If I leave the room and then go back in, it happens every time. I'm on the xbox, and it doesn't seem to effect game play at all, as far as I can tell. Any one else experience this? Is it even worth mentioning in the 'bugs' section? Obax 03:41, 15 February 2012 (UTC)

I'm on the xbox too and the same thing just happened to me. It was around 6 a.m. and happens every time I go behind it. Babette 21:00, 9 June 2012 (UTC)

Bugged Quests Fixed - Lute, Drum, Flute[edit]

As of patch 1.4, the three "instrument retrieval" quests seem to be fixed. I was able to turn in all three items and they disappeared from my player's inventory.(PS3 user)71.224.13.163 04:17, 17 February 2012 (UTC)Marcus

Patch 1.4 removes the bugged quest items upon completion of quest[edit]

The section that says:

"For the three quests involving the retrieval of instruments, the script for removal of the quest items from one's inventory at the completion of the quest is bugged. As such, these items will permanently be in your inventory (they're flagged as Quest items). Owners of the PC version of Skyrim can use console commands to remove these items from their inventory."

Is no longer the case with Patch 1.4 on the Xbox360, so it's confirmed to go along with the PS3 user report above. — Unsigned comment by 107.5.58.111 (talk) at 17:36 on 21 February 2012

Yep, it should be fixed. However, there seems to be one more thing to test before adding 1.4 tags to the bugs - specifically to pick up the instruments before receiving the quests. There has been reports that there's still a bug when doing that. If anybody can provide any info, please add it here. --Krusty 23:27, 22 February 2012 (UTC)
I picked up Finn's Lute before getting the quest, and was able to turn it in OK. The objectives are still messed up though, since you'll get one to find the instrument when you start the quest, and if you already have it that objective will never be completed. -Vardis 23:57, 22 February 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, something like that. So basically, if you get the quest 'normally' by talking to the quest-givers, everything is alright. Even if you find them beforehand - in that case, you'll just have to stay away from the quest-givers, or you'll have an objective for eternity. Feel free to give the rewording a shot - otherwise, I'll try sometime tomorrow. --Krusty 00:01, 23 February 2012 (UTC)
Despite the fact that I finished this quest long time ago and held to the items, after isntalling the patch nothing has changed - I still can't remove them from my inventory. Will have to use console... --Arkhon 06:18, 25 February 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, the way the patches work is, "The patch does not fix past saves, only new saves. Every older save is associated with the older patch, and every new save is associated with the latest patch." This is quoted from a Bethesda Support e-mail. So even after updating to a new patch, all previous gameplay (even if it's 200hours) is unaffected by the patch. Lucky for you, you can use the console. Non-PC users are just screwed unless they start a new game. Alphabetface 09:08, 28 February 2012 (UTC)

Daggerfall tunes[edit]

i've got a console version of Skyrim so I can't go looking through sound files... but unless i'm crazy, I heard someone practicing the town music from Daggerfall on their lute. anyone else noticed it?— Unsigned comment by 172.129.135.154 (talk) at 03:42 on 31 March 2012

I have no idea, but it looks like someone else thinks there's a song from Arena that some bards play. eshetalk 20:04, 25 April 2012 (UTC)

Adonato's Book[edit]

Shouldn't Adonato's Book quest be in here? It does involve a delivery to Giroud Gemane. — Unsigned comment by The Drunken Elf (talkcontribs) at 03:39 on 16 August 2012

Added. ABCface 09:52, 16 August 2012 (UTC)

Side Quest Shortcut[edit]

It should be worth noting that you can find the lute, flute, and drum in their respective dungeons before starting any of these side quests. Viarmo will still ambush you as soon as you walk into the Bards College, but you don't need to do his quest to return the instruments and receive the rewards. SonGoharotto (talk) 15:36, 3 October 2012 (GMT)

They'd best be noted on their respective quest pages rather than the main article for the Bards College itself. The articles are Finn's Lute, Pantea's Flute and Rjorn's Drum respectively. -Helenaannevalentine(talk) 17:12, 3 October 2012 (GMT)

Redirect from Skryim: Bard?[edit]

Right now this page redirects from Skyrim: Bard. However, this seems to make no sense to me. Someone searching for bards is not necessarily looking for the Bard's College, but more likely is looking for the NPCs with the Bard profession. I have not found such a list here, but the Skyrim Wikia certainly made it easy. I recommend breaking the redirect and building a page for Skyrim: Bard or Skyrim: Bards for the purpose of detailing the NPCs with the Bard profession. (I'd just do it, but as you can tell by the ip address, I'm not a member of the site. I'm also not prepared for the commitment of writing an entirely new page.) --73.14.195.181 23:18, 17 July 2015 (UTC)

A list of NPC's that are in the bard class can be found on the category page here. Also, we have the article Skyrim:Bardic Performances which largely covers what bards do in Skyrim. Anything on a Skyrim:Bard page would likely be duplication of what's already on that article or what's on the Bards College page. The lists of NPC's on the Bardic Performance page and the Bards College page also, when combined, probably list nearly all the bards in Skyrim. Forfeit (talk) 03:58, 18 July 2015 (UTC)
Good points all around. My searches never brought me to the category page, so I didn't even know it existed. A couple of new searches looking specifically for that category page don't help, meaning it's not likely to show up for any bard-related searches. So might I suggest that Skyrim: Bard redirect to Category:Skyrim-Bard?--73.14.195.181 06:23, 19 July 2015 (UTC)
Hmm, that's an option. However, I'm not sure that would be the best target for the redirect. The category page really isn't much of an article, it just lists any NPC that is a member of the bard class, be they performers, Bards College members, or just any NPC that was assigned this class. While some readers may just want this list of people, others would perhaps want more information on what bards do in Skyrim and the songs they play in Skyrim when searching for Skyrim:Bard.
Instead, I'm thinking of having the Skyrim:Bard redirect go to the Skyrim:Bardic Performances page as this seems more appropriate than having it redirect to the Bards College page. This probably would have been done back when the redirect was first created, but the Bardic Performance page did not exist back then. I'll probably also add a sentence on the Bardic Performances page that links to the category page along the lines of, "For a complete list of bards in Skyrim, see here."
