Book 4 Location[edit]

I was looking at the page searching for unknown book 4. The description of where the book is a bit to vague. What I mean to say is that there are many objects in the Falmer village that could be arches, or archways. There are also two tents with mammoth skulls on them. The first tent has an alchemist's table in it the second tent, near the end of the village after you walk though a rocky passageway, has the book inside of it. The description was a bit confusing. For anyone confused who's found my comment here: After exiting the Glacial Crevice take the second rocky ramp to the right (it has a fire on it), then if you look skywards you should see a tent with a mammoth skull on it. This tent will contain an alchemy table, but not the unknown book we're looking for. When facing the first tent with the mammoth skull on it, the one with the alchemy table, turn right and follow the path through a rocky passage way. Once through there there are more Falmer tents. Keep going a bit and there should be a second mammoth skull adorned tent. That's the one that will have the fourth unknown book. Lurksalot 19:17, 4 August 2012 (UTC)

Glad you said this. I agree, the description is terrible. I'll add your version to the main wiki article. baratron (talk) 04:11, 13 August 2013 (GMT)

Console fix testing[edit]

I did some tinkering with the console to try and remove the objective after turning in book 4. Setobjectivecompleted, completequest, resetquest, and setstage all seem to have no effect after I turned the book in-the objective still remained in my journal. Maybe it will disappear after I turn in the rest of the books, or maybe if I find another book I'll have more luck. I'll do some more testing on this and see if I can't come up with a better fix. I managed to complete one of them by setting the stage to 200. Perhaps it will work for you too.--FSerge (talk) 14:49, 9 September 2012 (EDT)

Volume III location[edit]

I found it confusing with the turning around and mentioning the path to the mountains you shouldn't be using. Instead of relying on directions (left/right) I feel it would be better to mention a landmark. I propose a new description:

Before the Glacial Crevice. Travel upriver toward (Shouldn't this be "towards"? English is not my first language.) the entrance to the Glacial Crevice, but do not enter. On your right you will see an arch over the river, walk over the arch and continue following the path until you come to a fork. Take the left bridge going downwards. The book will be inside a lone Falmer tent. --Demian (talk) 15:07, 15 April 2013 (GMT)

I've borrowed from your description to "fix" what's there. It should make more sense now. baratron (talk) 19:34, 13 August 2013 (GMT)

Calcelmo translates them[edit]

Shouldn't the page mention, that Calcelmo of Markarth is the one, who supposedly translates these books, despite translated copies being immediately handed to you? — Unsigned comment by 88.153.140.235 (talk) at 21:59 on 11 March 2016 (UTC)

I haven't done this quest in a while, but is it ever mentioned or implied that he does? Either way, it's not really directly relevant to the quest. If it's true, it probably falls under the heading of "trivia", which we typically don't include in our articles. Zul do onikaanLaan tinvaak 14:26, 12 March 2016 (UTC)
The books have a "Translated from the falmer text by Calcelmo of Markarth" at the top of them, so he's definitely mentioned, but I'm not sure about whether this should be included. --MetaCthulhu (talk) 20:37, 12 March 2016 (UTC)
The books you bring him aren't the only copies. They've obviously been translated before: "I'll even throw in a translated edition I have for free."Legoless (talk) 20:49, 12 March 2016 (UTC)
If they'd been actively translated by Calcelmo (as in, you had to bring them to him and/or wait for a specific time before getting them back), then I would've said it should go on the page. Since Urag just hands you a pre-translated copy, I don't think it's notable beyond the link already provided on the book pages. Robin Hood  (talk) 21:08, 12 March 2016 (UTC)
