Difference between apparel and potions[edit]

So ... fortify destruction on apparel is different than fortify destruction in potions?— Unsigned comment by 216.253.111.150 (talk)

Yes, the potions make the spells stronger and the apparel makes them cost less magicka (Eddie The Head 15:35, 4 January 2012 (UTC))
In that case, shouldn't they be made into separate pages, or at least better described here? The current setup is very confusing Tryptic 23:00, 4 February 2012 (UTC)

Cost Reduction not working for followers[edit]

So, an armour set with 100% cost reduction will make a destruction staff (ice storm, chain lighting etc) free to use for the player, but annoyingly, not for followers. Lydia and Aela are both high entertainment dual-wielding staves, so I had sets made especially... but they only work properly when I wear them *sigh*. Oh well. Here's hoping for a bug fix! - Cirian. 79.87.202.92 12:07, 15 January 2012 (UTC)

On 1.3 PC, 100% cost reduction in alteration and destruction will make my cicero's weapon, enchanted to absorb stamina and paralyse, not use charges at all, so i assume it does work. Maybe there is something special about staves? Did you try to give them enchanted weapon with destruction school enchant and see if they use charges on that? Maybe what you experienced is "enchant wasnt applied on equipping" bug that was reported to happen for players too? Did you try to give fort destro equipmnent to a mage and see if their mana goes down from using spells? Fortify Destruction and Dragon Shouts[edit]

Can anyone with the PC version test whether Fortify Destruction also affects Dragon Shouts, such as Fire Breath and Marked for Death? — Unsigned comment by 108.221.229.2 (talk) at 01:30 on 13 August 2012

I tested it, and the potions do not affect Fire Breath, Frost Breath or Storm Call :(

  • I tested it and Fortify Destruction did increase the damage for those, as well as any other shouts that deal at least some direct damage, such as Cyclone, Ice Form, and Unrelenting Force. I've read other reports of this working as well. Keep in mind when testing this that the damage you inflict is modified by difficulty, so if you're playing on Legendary, you need to divide by 4. The strongest legit Fortify Destruction potions you can make have a magnitude of +218%, which more than triples damage. These are the potions I used, and the difference was very noticeable. The easiest way to test is on your horse. Save, use 'getav health' to find its initial health, use the shout, use 'getav health' again, then reload. This time, use the Fortify Destruction potion, use the shout, and check 'getav health' to see if the value is lower.FrozenWolf150 (talk) 22:15, 10 November 2015 (UTC)

Bug? - Stronger Enchantment when using Potion of Fortify Destruction[edit]

While enchanting a sword with Fire Damage I accidentally took a potion of fortify destruction. This seems to increase the magnitude of the corresponding destruction damage enchantments. Furthermore this effect seems to persist even when the potion wears of. — Unsigned comment by 141.30.224.37 (talk) at 21:44 on 12 August 2014‎

You're right. I think that's known, but I don't see it anywhere I would expect to find it, so I'll add it to the Enchanting page, which is where it's most relevant. Robin Hood  (talk) 03:12, 13 August 2014 (GMT)

Bracers of Destruction[edit]

So there are Bracers of Destruction in the game, but you can't enchant bracers or gloves with Fortify Destruction? MaxWilder (talk) 01:16, 5 April 2015 (GMT)

That's correct. As I recall, there are a couple of items like this, though I don't know which ones off-hand. It's probably a bug. Robin Hood  (talk) 05:26, 5 April 2015 (GMT)
From what I could see on the Skyrim:Generic Magic Apparel page, only the Imperial Bracers grant a couple of the lower values of Destruction.--CStone (talk) 00:28, 16 February 2018 (UTC)
