Bug?[edit]

This page states as bug, that Garakh doesn't act as merchant. Is there any more indication that she should be a merchant than her having rank -1 in the JobBlacksmithFaction and JobMerchantFaction? Because that looks to me just as if developers changed their mind about her being a merchant, but forgot to remove those faction entries (which do no harm at all). --Alfwyn (talk) 11:51, 20 November 2012 (GMT)

Hi Alfwyn. I think there's plenty of evidence. All other Orc strongholds have blacksmith and apothecary merchants. Garakh spends business hours on smithy equipment. Atub says "I have potions and remedies if you need them", (or the similar standard line); but she lies. They walk like merchants, talk like merchants, and ... well, ok; I don't know how to finish that line. On one of the related talk pages, someone earlier stated that they have merchant chests. I think, just on the face of it, there is a mistake either way. If the developers decided not to make them merchants, then they shouldn't be advertising their wares. I think a prominent note is useful. I spent a lot of time trying to catch Atub in her alchemy shack, where I think she hangs out during business hours at some point, but then stops doing so during or after The Cursed Tribe. I also kept trying to get the Garakh to trade with me, by doing all sorts of experiments. I am a bit crazy, it's true, but there are others like me, I'm quite sure. I liked everything as I had it before the info was moved into bug sections, on the two NPC pages, and the place page as well. --JR (talk) 14:13, 20 November 2012 (GMT)
More: I agree that whether it's a bug or not is open to question, since we don't know the developers' intent. But something is certainly not normal, and I think it deserves prominent notice. I took a peek, and Garakh does have a merchant chest full of blacksmith merchandise under the workbench in her work area.
I now remember why I thought prominent notes would be useful. I think it's fairly frequent for players to go on trading sprees. For example, when loaded-up with items we want to sell, or when in need of visiting a lot of apothecaries (thus the—I think quite useful—tip on visiting many apothecaries efficiently). I periodically embarked on such trips, including several of the Orc Strongholds, in bursts of journeys focused on trading, including the Orc strongholds, and many cities, and some odd other places that have merchants, and kept getting frustrated at this particular stronghold. That just drove me to try to figure out why I could not get any merchant services here. Then, after I gave up on it, I had to remember which one to skip. --JR (talk) 17:34, 20 November 2012 (GMT)
Sure, some notice of the situation is warranted, and Atub's dialogue is certainly strange. But to me it looks more like cut content (something they did not finish implementing) than a bug. It does not really break something that they are not merchants, the game works fine as is in this respect. For shopping sprees pages like Merchants are far better suited than checking each individual page for notices about merchants (and we already document via an icon whether someone is an merchant or not). --Alfwyn (talk) 17:49, 20 November 2012 (GMT)
