Moving Mannequin Fix

Mannequins leaving their podiums? If you're on PC, you may have a solution. Click the mannequin in console mode, disable it, then enable it again. The mannequin should respawn where it belongs, on its podium. Just to be safe, be sure to remove all the gear it's equipped with before you do this. Not sure if it's permanent or works for everyone, but it worked for me. — Unsigned comment by 99.6.26.115 (talk) at 21:09 on 2 November 2012

Changing their equipment also worked for me. (Xbox) — Unsigned comment by 50.33.200.16 (talk) at 04:14 on 24 November 2012‎

Steward won't dismiss from follower position

Right now i have Valdimar as my steward for Windstad Manor. I wanted to change what he was wearing so i made him a follower and so on, but now when i tell him its time to part ways or to wait he continues to follow me and he is still showing the followers options? Any help would be much appreciated because this is annoying the bloody daylights out of me. — Unsigned comment by 98.150.3.28 (talk) at 08:02 on 17 November 2012

Same issue here. Don't know if you have the UFO mod, but this fixed it for me http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/26568.--173.76.19.21 19:35, 2 December 2012 (GMT)

Missing Children

I adopted my kids in Hearthfire about one in-game week ago. I've kept waiting, but they're still at the orphanage claiming to be gathering their things and saying goodbyes. How long are they going to remain at the orphanage, it's been quite some time now. Has anyone experienced a bug where the children simply never went to their house? If it helps, I adopted them both at the same time and already fully furnished with wife, steward, and bard beforehand. No housecarl, Lakeview Manor. I've attempted moving to Breezehome, wife moved, children remained at Honorhall. I've also tried to use placeatme, when placed in Lakeview, the copy said nothing and eventually disappeared altogether. Aside from that, I haven't tried much else, and information on this bug is low. - 108.59.210.31 08:57, 18 November 2012 (GMT)

Just to clarify, have you tried to "wait" in locations away from where your children and your home are? Sometimes you have to be away from both for it to actually update. Also, this would apply with waiting for your spouse to move as well (wait in an area completely away from the home they're currently living in and the one you want them to move to). If you wait in an area too close to any of those locations, it sometimes won't update. — ABCface 19:49, 18 November 2012 (GMT)
I waited a full week in the Soul Cairn. Just to be sure, I waited another week in Winterhold. I saved, so I could check the orphanage or the house first. On both checks, nothing changed, the children remained in the Orphanage. If it's any help, I noticed in the orphanage that they've stopped interacting with anything, they appear in the middle, and walk to the fireplace, where they turn around and don't talk aside from the default "saying goodbyes" line. Killing the children and resurrecting them didn't change anything, and killing them did not allow me to adopt new children, so they're probably intended to leave, they just haven't. I have a bard, a carriage driver, and a Erik the Slayer (a Blade) as my steward, no housecarl. Attempted searches for other instances of this problem still haven't yielded any results. My wife moves to the new house just fine, but the kids still don't appear. - 108.59.210.31 08:01, 19 November 2012 (GMT)
Okay, that location should be far enough from both locations to work for your kids to move. (Sorry for the added spouse comment, I thought the comment below was yours as well.) Are you using any mods? There's a list of mods which are known to cause issues with Hearthfire in a hidden table at the bottom of this section, and it's probably incomplete, so if you do have mods you may want to try disabling them and reloading a previous save to see if the issue still occurs. If you're using the Unofficial Skyrim Patch, Unofficial Dawnguard Patch, and/or Unofficial Hearthfire Patch, make sure you're using the most updated versions of each (only older versions of the first two have been reported to cause issues with Hearthfire). If these ideas don't work, I'm out of ideas. =\ — ABCface 15:26, 19 November 2012 (GMT)
Tried disabling Hearthfire Patch and Unique Region Names, made a clean save and reloaded. Waited a week in Winterhold, no effect. The last possible solution I see is moving Erik and my wife out of Lakeview Manor and disabling Hearthfire, then re-enable and try again. I'm going to attempt searching for any information at all on this bug, if I still can't find anything, I'll try The Final Solution and report back. - 108.59.210.31 02:36, 20 November 2012 (GMT)

My Family Won't Listen!!!

1) My family won't move to my new home!

I took all the trouble to put together a cooler looking home at Windstad Manor and they won't move there! It gives me the diologue option but every time I select it my husband says "ok meet you there" or whatever, and then he just continues with whatever he was doing...and never ever goes to the new house, and the diologue option remains available, no matter how many times I select it.

2)I can't fire my bard!

I like the bards and all, but over time they tend to get on my nerves when they keep singing and won't just play instrumentals. No matter how many times I tell them to leave, they say "ok" then just keep playing! And just like with telling the family to move, the diologue option remains available but she still won't leave! It was fun at first to think of creative ways to kill her, but I started adding more to the room where I stashed her body and now she is permanently stuck under a display case! If only she would have just left!!!!

-Suggestions would be helpfull and very appreciated!

When I got fed up with my bard at Windstad Manor (because she wouldn't leave when I fired her, and because her voice was terribly out of tune, especially during her ear-bleed inducing renditions of Ragnor The Red), I killed her and moved her to the back of the house (bottom portion of the alchemy lab addition) and closed the door. About a week or two later (in game time) I went into the same room and discovered that her body had disappeared. Hopefully after you've waiting long enough the same will happen for you. However, I have had issues with bodies not disappearing, such as Ulfric's body remaining permanently in The Palace of the Kings long after completing the Civil War questline. --216.67.32.220 07:29, 3 December 2012 (GMT)

Likely solution for spouse missing dialogue options

Problems with missing dialogue options are almost always related to Skyrim having obsolete scripts installed as a result from installing Creation Kit. Removing those scripts and reinstalling them will likely fix the problem. The same issue prevented some players from feeding in Dawnguard. Saratje (talk) 00:23, 19 November 2012 (GMT)

Missing Items and where to find them

Rather; missing items and please help me find them. I haven't encountered this in any of the original homes in skyrim, only hearth fire built ones, though I could just be lucky. I've had glitches when storing items in display cases then closing the lids in the past. If the object is thicker than the case, the lid intersects and causes all manner of glitches, usually ending up with the object on top or nearby. In this case, I stored three paragons in the case in the master bedroom, second floor, adjacent to the outer wall. This was all well and good until I closed the lid one day. It appeared to be ok and the gems seemed to fit within the case, so I left it that way. Upon returning the case is open again and the middle paragon (diamond) is missing. I can't locate it anywhere. I'm assuming it popped outside of the wall into limbo. I've tried using the wooden bowl trick to get through a wall and see if I can retrieve it, but that exploit seems to have been patched. I can barely get a bowl to land on the wall end up, and even if I do, I can't get the exploit to work. I'm on Xbox so no console. I'm pretty much screwed, it's no big deal but I liked my paragons. — Unsigned comment by Papahbear (talkcontribs) at 09:31 on 29 November 2012

Heljarchen Hall requirements

Are we sure of the Heljarchen Hall requirements? I'm positive I haven't done any of that. I may have changed control of Dawnstar over to the Empire during the Season Unending negotiation though, so perhaps that is sufficient? 202.124.74.6 14:20, 1 December 2012 (GMT)

I think I'm running into a bug where I got the "Kill the Giant" quest too early and it got stuck in my journal. Then I used a mod to remove it, but now that I am level 22, Jarl Skald won't give me the quest. He also makes no mention of the land being for sale, etc. Tiger8u2 (talk) 06:16, 23 December 2012 (GMT)
In my experience, if you give control of a hold to the other side in Season Unending, or conquer a hold via the Civil War, then the new jarl who owes you his/her job likes you enough to let you purchase property even if you haven't done any of the normal requirements for being a thane (or in the case of Whiterun, if you conquer it for the Stormcloaks you lose your thaneship until you help enough people, but you can still buy Breezehome if you haven't already). However I only just got Hearthfire and haven't tested this method out with any of the Hearthfire properties yet, but I do have one savegame where despite not being a thane of anywhere (or having the becoming a thane quest triggered) the Dragonborn owns all the base-game houses except for the one in Solitude. --Morrolan (talk) 15:33, 27 December 2012 (GMT)
I've confirmed that this applies to Morthal; I built Windstad Manor after conquering Hjaalmarch for the Stormcloaks, no need to do Laid to Rest - just help 3 people in Hjaalmarch to become Thane, and the conquest was enough to allow me to buy the land. --Morrolan (talk) 19:25, 31 December 2012 (GMT)

Walls in all the doors to wings

There are walls in all the doors to the wings now. Just as if there were no wings. But the wings are there, as are the doors to them. But when you open the door, you see a wall. Door/walls...dwalls if you will. The wings are still there--I can get into them using tcl in the console. But there are walls in the way. — Unsigned comment by 69.250.117.32 (talk) at 01:02 on 5 December 2012‎

Do you have mods? Any mods which mess with textures at all could potentially cause an issue like this, so you might want to try disabling your mods and checking if the issue still occurs. — ABCface 15:47, 6 December 2012 (GMT)
Textures are only appearance, while the doors and walls coexisting is structural.
We have just had this problem, possibly caused by the bird flocking mod mentioned elsewhere(?), it happened after removing that mod to try to fix other probably unrelated bugs (the door from the entryway to the main hall lead instead to 'skyrim'). Just as you say, the rooms are there, but the walls block normal (non-tcl) access.
By selecting the 'wall' sections (I made sure the doors were open so I didn't hit them) while in console, used 'disable', followed by 'markfordelete'. Nothing appeared to change, but after leaving the house and returning, the 'wall' sections were gone  : )
This may or may not work in your case. (Didn't record the wall id values .. some had [D] after them?) — Unsigned comment by 60.234.174.112 (talk) at 04:16 on 31 December 2012

Steward forgets what you tell them

When i ask my steward (for Heljarchen Hall) when i buy an improvement it removes the cash but i don't get anything in return. — Unsigned comment by 58.169.135.56 (talk) at 08:58 on 6 December 2012‎

Be a sub-subject?

Should hearthfire really be a sub-subject under skyrim on the sidebar? As oblivion house mods aren't. I realize its 3 houses and quest but just wondering. Skylar1146 (talk) 04:27, 9 December 2012 (GMT)

This was discussed as part of a Dawnguard discussion on the Community Portal here. It may need to be revisited now that Dragonborn has been released, but that should probably be done on the CP as well since it affects the entire site rather than just this article. — ABCface 06:35, 9 December 2012 (GMT)

Greenthumb and Hearthfire Gardens

It should be noted that depending on what you plant you will get anywhere from 3-5 samples. However Greenthumb perk found in the Alchemy line seems to wonk stuff up. For example, a Creep Cluster plant might give me 3 samples off the bat, but it shows up like this Creep Cluster (3)(2) Added but only three show up. This greenthumb perk doesn't seem to be beneficial to Hearthfire's gardens whether greenhouse or standard exterior one. It also seems to affect portions, negatively, on Dragonborn's Secret Nirnroot Island. --67.185.108.121 02:54, 12 December 2012 (GMT)

This may be notable on the Greenhouse page where there is a section specifically about ingredients you can plant. Feel free to add the info there for further verification. — ABCface 03:48, 12 December 2012 (GMT)

Kids can't carry any gifts.

Okay, my kid sophie keeps bugging me about gifts as if its not enough I give her a grand all the time. Well although Im okay with giving her something she can't caryy anything i try to give her. It just keeps saying "item weighs to much to carry" or some such nonsense. She doesn't even have anything in her inventory or even the chest. When an apple or pie weighing 0.1 pounds is too much she has a problem. Hope somebody has a solution. — Unsigned comment by 184.79.175.176 (talk) at 01:05 on 26 December 2012

Other people have had this issue with Sofie as well. Apparently, it's because she still has all her flower baskets from her "merchant" inventory from before you adopt her. If you are playing on PC, here's the fix listed on her page:
  • To fix this simply open the console and select her with the mouse, then use the command drop 000d955a 500 to force her to drop all the remaining baskets. They stack so only 1 basket will appear, with the total number after the name. If she does not drop any baskets after using this command, make sure the refID of your selected target is xx004031, as it is common to accidentally click the wrong asset when using click targeting.
If you are playing on Xbox, here's a fix another user reported as working for them (though you'd have to have an appropriate previous save for it to work)
  • To fix it, I reloaded a save from before I adopted her, did the dialogue option to buy her flowers, and bought all the flower baskets she had (like 250). Once I adopted her, I was then able to gift her things.
Hope one of these fixes works for ya! — ABCface 15:15, 26 December 2012 (GMT)

House doesn't show up..

Built Lakeview Manor & it shows up fine, when I was building it (while steam was online and offline) Wifi shut off so I can only play on offline for now, bought land for Windstad Manor, & made the plans and built some of it, but nothing shows up.

  • also, game crashes when I try to go into breezehome — Unsigned comment by 24.62.159.226 (talk) at 22:23 on 28 December 2012
The first problem is a known issue for PC players with mods. Check the bugs section on this page and also this discussion for a list of possible mods which may affect it. If you don't have mods, I'm not sure what to tell you. — ABCface 15:29, 29 December 2012 (GMT)
