One Child won't go to bed - and more

This is for the Xbox 360 version.

I originally posted a bug on here regarding one child not going to bed - but I'm updating this, as it seems to be part of a bigger problem - not sure if other people will have seen symptoms of this. I've played it through on another game to see exactly what was happening.

Basically, I adopted two boys - to test it - I adopted the same two boys in two games; Samuel and Gralnach - one game was living at the Lakeview Manor, the other at Heljarchen Hall. If the two boys are allowed to interact (i.e. Play hide and seek or Tag with the Dragonborn, or have the Argument where the Dragonborn has to scold them for fighting) Samuel will from then on swap beds, and Gralnach will just stand around all night. The spouse will also at that point stop talking about "How are the Kids getting on"

Curiously I have also noticed that in my game adoptive children only ever use one chest to store the items they find, which is the one at the end of the bed Samuel always moves to. The other chest remains completely empty.

I'm currently playing through an earlier save with and adopted boy and girl (Lucia and Blaise) to see if it's just a conflict with having two boys, and having run through a game of tag with them, they are still using their own beds, but the bug has only ever cropped up after a few hours in previous games. It's not a game breaking bug, but still irritating.

Has anyone else found this conflict, or know of a work around, to reset the children and their beds? Moving house definitely doesn't fix it.

Im having this problem too. It is really bugging me. I want to put the child up for adoption. I adopted Lucia off the streets of whiterun. I was at the house in lakeview and it bugged me so much that i decided to buy another house and move and then move back. I purchased proudspire manor and Lucia still wont sleep. My son goes right to bed. I haven't tried moving back yet and I havent found any solutions. But it truly is annoying. Its a shame you can't put children up for adoption. You should be able to take the ones off the street and send them to the orphanage. I switched from the ps3 to the xbox for the DLCs and I'm level 14 now so I dont think ill be starting over to fix it.

You said one child was at Lakeview and the other at Heljarchen? I was under the impression that, after you adopted your first child and put them in a house, the second child would automatically be placed in the same household without your input, so they always share the same one. Obviously this doesn't fix the problem, but it could be taken into consideration when trying to figure out how the glitch is triggered. --Lady Azura (talk) 08:06, 17 January 2013 (GMT)

Unique named bandit

Unique named bandit, may have been added by Hearthfire

I was attacked by a group of bandits after fast traveling to Lakeview manor. The bandit chief was named "Rochelle the red" are their other unique bandits? or did I just run into a NPC I have never seen on older playthroughs? — Unsigned comment by 170.224.50.12 (talk) at 01:48 on 19 December 2012‎

Yes, it is a names bandit. I tested it by console. — Unsigned comment by 189.4.244.2 (talk) at 22:47 on 1 January 2013

Crash to desktop (for PC)

Some people might experience crash to desktop while inside the house, especially the house with the greenhouse option. To fix this, just remove all the workbenches. Found this fix from a Skyrim forum. — Unsigned comment by 210.195.87.222 (talk) at 11:42 on 2 January 2013

Some people might experience crash to desktop while inside the Falkreath house. This is due to the amount of NPC's in the house. To fix this, remove all workbenches. If that does not work try remodelling the house into entryway (it doesn't actually do so)Found this fix from a Skyrim forum. — Unsigned comment by 101.167.23.19 (talk) at 03:45 on 25 January 2013

Potential Library Bug

Bookshelves seem to reset, happened a couple times with different bookshelves. When I open the inventory to deposit more books onto the shelf, the shelf inventory is empty and when exited the books disappear. Unsure if it's specific to Hearthfire --Tabber42 (talk) 07:51, 6 January 2013 (GMT)

Yeah, this problem happens to other houses as well, see the Honeyside page. But the bug section of that page says the bug is fixed? The last time I had this bug was when I accessed Breezehome bookshelves, and the inventory went empty, not Honeyside. To prevent this bug I always put 1 less book in each shelve for eg max for some shelves is 11 books, I only put in 10 books. It might work for you. — Unsigned comment by 115.132.72.41 (talk) at 14:27 on 21 January 2013‎

Forgetful Helper/Steward

So I have Marcurrio as my follower (and he's awesome) He asked to become my steward and I said yes (because he's helped me take down anything in my path so far and i trust him) But he still stays as my follower and if i dismiss him he leaves back to the bee and the barb. Also it says if they follow you they will still be able to do "Steward things" but there's no option in the dialog. And then i got a new follower (Lydia) and not once have I been able to assign her as a steward. Could some one help me please!? I still would like marcurrio to be my steward. — Unsigned comment by 66.244.236.135 (talk) at 17:49 on 7 January 2013

In my experience, if I have a steward as an active follower, I have to dismiss them to get the steward dialogue, then ask them to follow me again if I wish them to do so. As for not being able to assign Lydia as a steward, are you trying to make her a steward of a different home than Marcurio or the same one? Once you have a steward for a home, you can't "undo" it, so make sure you're trying to make her a steward of a different home if you want it to work. — ABCface 18:32, 7 January 2013 (GMT)

Big bug: children not sleeping, even if the game thinks so (for PC)

The following is a big bug, really annoying one, and since I never read of anyone with my same problem, I'll try to explain it here and seek for some help.

So I decided to adopt Lucia, everything went well, she moved quite soon to my house (Lakeview Manor with every possible thing built), she also put on the new clothes I gave her just fine, so I haven't experienced the adoption bug neither the clothes bug, and I can play with her and give her gifts just fine. But when I tell her to sleep she answers "yes pa" and then instead of running to her bedroom she runs upstairs, to the lake terrace door, and goes outside! But the annoying thing is that she doesn't stay outside, she just re-enters inside as soon as she gets outside and keeps on doing the same thing over and over again. And it's not just a Lucia bug, because I adopted Sofie and she has this problem too. And although all this stuff happens, the game believes my daughters are actually sleeping.

I know it's a bit difficult to explain and understand, so I uploaded a video on YouTube to show what I mean:

(Sorry for bad quality, had to do some heavy downscaling to reduce uploading times) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=etv1eV2uZUI

SOLVED:

  • After various tries, I found that a mod called "Placeable Statics" was causing the problem. After deactivating it my children went to sleep just fine, at the right place and woke up at my same time too.
  • I'll try to be a bit more specific: I disabled all mods except the main esms, loaded the game, then exited the game and enabled all mods except Placeable Statics, and it worked.

Dragon not leaving the front of my house.

This is on the Xbox version. I purchased the Lakeview manor home and completely built it, I walked outside and there was a Elder dragon flying around my home. I was afraid it was going to Cause damage so I killed it, got it's soul, and emptied it's body of items. Now every time I go to my home it's there and it won't go away. If I enter my home then come back out it kinda falls from the sky and twitches around a lot, also I purchased the dragonborn DLC, could that be affecting the hearthfire DLC? Is there any way to fix this? — Unsigned comment by 65.188.36.233 (talk) at 15:13 on 12 January 2013

The 'dead dragon falling from the sky' thing is a known glitch which has occurred for a while. It sucks that the location it's happening for you is your house, but in my experience there's no surefire way to resolve the issue-- just try to be patient, and it will go away eventually. This used to happen to me in Markarth all the time when I was using the abandoned house as a home, and it stopped after maybe a dozen fast travels to that city. You could also try waiting longer before going back to your home (which I know would also kinda suck, since that's where you keep your stuff), maybe giving the cell more time to properly reload and hopefully keep that from happening. Another idea might be to fast travel somewhere other than your home, but close, and then walk there. Not sure if that would work, but something is going on when that area loads so it's worth a try. Maybe someone else has some better ideas, but I can't think of much else. — ABCface 15:59, 12 January 2013 (GMT)
I actually just turned on the game after not playing it for about 3 days and the dragon had disappeared. I just hope it doesn't come back. I'm lucky enough to not have had any other glitches than this minor one. Thanks for your help though. :) — Unsigned comment by 65.188.36.233 (talk) at 16:05 on 12 January 2013‎
Glad it worked out for you. Since you're on a console version, using the dev console to remove it isn't an option for you. However, in the future should something similar happen again you can usually stop it by going away for at least 10 days, which will cause the cell to reset. Just go someplace else, use the wait command for 10 complete days, and travel back. It should be gone then. Quillan (talk) 17:38, 12 January 2013 (GMT)
Odd issue, give the dragon bones a shot from ice spikes or icy spear... the problem goes away at mach 3 (also landing in hilarious other locations) if the body didn't offer a soul, 10 day wait is about it.

Bard music bug

This isn't a Hearthfire bug. The game background music always plays over bard music. It's a bit more irritating as often the music is louder when you're in a Hearthfire home compared to visiting a tavern in the town, but it happens with all bards, not just the Hearthfire bards. --Morrolan (talk) 18:27, 24 January 2013 (GMT)

I agree. Removed. — ABCface 19:13, 24 January 2013 (GMT)
