Wife kidnapping hearthfire glitch

Ok so some bandits kidnapped my wife and asked for a ransom, so I was going to go save her but everytime I try to go save her it auto completes and from then on she just continues to do this walking backwards motion while standing still. I've tried reloading but it still happens, any ideas? — Unsigned comment by 24.35.215.236 (talk) at 09:35 on 10 September 2012‎

i had this problem too. i kept resetting the game, and i tried doing it faster. (before the message appears.) if i got to my wife and released her before it did that, everything seems to work normally. so i guess its recommended to hard save when the ransom quest appears, so you can redo it if nssesary. 74.67.118.175 13:45, 11 September 2012 (EDT)
I can confirm this, via my post on my wife's page here on UESP: After my wife, Mjoll the Lioness, was taken for ransom and held in Embershard mine, and after I killed the bandits and freed her: Whatever direction she faces when the cell loads, that's the direction she will be stuck facing, she no longer fights, draws her weapon/s, but doesn't fight, doesn't take a knee when injured, isn't staggered by sprinting or shouting, nothing. It's highly annoying, and I've tried almost everything. It's like the script to keep her still in the holding cell in the mine is still firing.
I've tried clearing the mine after respawn and picking the lock to the cell instead of using the key, to no avail. I've tried clearing the entire mine of bandits again, nothing. For me, this is a game-breaker, and very much upsetting, as I do not wish to start my game over, but just may. Cannot find anything anywhere about this situation coming up for anyone else, but will continue to do everything I can think of to fix it. Most likely unrelated, but I did turn her into a vampire.
Update: I told her to move to another house, namely my house in Markarth, and she walked backwards out of my Falkreath HF home and when i fast traveled away and back, she was back in the house, no longer has the option to move. Tried to have her follow me, and went to my Markarth house, but when she leaves my service, she returns to Falkreath. Mikeyy (talk) 18:28, 17 September 2012 (GMT)
I experienced multiple bugs (including the one above) and other odd things happen during this "quest" when my wife (Ysolda) was kidnapped. It must choose a radiant location because my wife was taken to a different cave. Thankfully after reading this post I took precautions and saved at multiple times throughout and was able to eventually successfully retrieve an (eventually) returning and fully functional wife while killing and recovering a good portion of the loot. It took several tries, though. SEVERAL!~FiveCentFather (Ken N.) (talk) 13:19, 19 September 2012 (GMT)
The same thing happened to my boyfriend. He temporarily fixed it by using vampire seduction and then feeding on Ysolda. I dont remember how long it lasted but it was just a temporary fix for it. PaineDefker (talk) 06:52, 20 September 2012 (GMT)
Also had this problem with Marcurio (husband and follower). Has rendered him useless as a follower. Spoils the game. — Unsigned comment by 86.16.72.251 (talk) at 07:42 on 26 September 2012‎

() I found, quite by accident, a fix for this bug. After getting the random note thing and my spouse, Marcurio also in my case, started acting all glitchy with the moonwalking and bad pathfinding, as mentioned by others above, I tried everything to fix it any nothing worked. So, in frustration, I decided to beat him up with hand to hand. And I did so as he was following me until he left my service. To my complete surprise, after he left my service, all the glitchy movement he had before was completely gone and he was able to properly follow me and interact with the environment as normal. I reloaded a few saves and tried this a few times and it worked every single time. I'm not sure if it's a permanent fix, but I've been playing since then for a few hours and it hasn't returned. I've yet to notice a difference in how my spouse behaves from before getting the ransom note and after using this fix I stumbled upon. Seems to have no lasting issues from this bug after doing that. By the way, I'm playing on the 360. So that's a way to get around this rather annoying bug. — Mjr162006 (talk) 11:00, 21 October 2012 (GMT)

OK, me & my wife spent a whole morning trying to solve this bug...
Apparently, the fix that worked fot us was:
1) Run to the place when the spouse is being kidnapped (in our case it was the Embershard mine).
2) When you go near the mine there is a group of bandits outside the mine. Switch to TGM mode, ignore the bandits, enter the mine. Ignore everyone inside (as well as the traps) and RUN to your spouse.
3) Reach the spouse BEFORE the quest autocompletes. There sould be a floating marker in the spouse.
4) Pick the lock on his/her cell. Talk to him/her immediately. He/she must reply with something.
5) After that a bandit spawns behind your back. The spouse is supposed to kill him.
6) Leave the mine with the spouse.
7) Fast travel home. Switch off the TGM mode. Everything should be normal.
For some reason, only by completing this particular course of actions in this particular order seemed to solve the problem. — Unsigned comment by 89.169.7.222 (talk) at 08:08 on 7 November 2012‎
I believe I've found a fix to this problem that's pretty simple. I just used the resurrect command on my wife which seems to have reset her. I didn't have to kill her, just simply opened the console, selected her, and entered 'resurrect'. Voila, no more moon-walking. — Unsigned comment by 99.237.30.193 (talk) at 01:15 on 13 November 2012‎
I'm playing on PC and experienced this same bug. I tried what Mjr162006 said about beating her until she stopped following, but it didn't work, after that, I tried using the resurrect console command on her, and it worked perfectly. As the guy above me said, you don't even have to kill her. So at least I do confirm that the resurrect command seems to fix that bug. --Ysuran92 (talk) 15:11, 22 November 2012 (GMT)
I'm playing with a mod and my wife isn't one of the vanilla options. I kept having her get kidnapped and she always seems to be taken to Orotheim. Upon investigating, she isn't there and Orotheim doesn't even appear to have any cells to keep her in. I've found the best solution to this very glitchy quest is to simply not do it. I keep my wife's reference id written down and as soon as I receive a ransom note I open the console and use the moveto <refID> command. This seems to avoid the autocomplete bugs as they don't seem to occur unless I fast travel somewhere. — Unsigned comment by 71.166.124.23 (talk) at 16:02 on 28 November 2012 (GMT)
I'm so happy I found out a solution for this bug (at least for me) that I have to write it!
I'm on xbox and I experienced this terrible bug with Mjoll who had become useless. I read here (many thanks to everyone) that the problem is that the quest autocompletes after entering the location (the mines near Lakeview for me). I thought to avoid the note of ransom, so when I went out from home and the bandit was approaching with the note, I shouted (Fus-ro-dah!!) and immediately killed her after that, and didn't get the note. Then I went to the mines and freed Mjoll which acted normally. Luckily I had a savefile just before the bug happened. I hope this helps. Adriaman (talk) 23:45, 27 December 2012 (GMT)Adriaman

() Also had serious issues with this quest. Fast-traveled to Windstad Manor, where my home was being attacked by bandits. The bandit attacking my Housecarl was killed and had a ransom note from Rochelle the Red. I did not confirm whether she was removed from the house. I fast-traveled to Morthal and walked to Robber's Gorge, where the note indicated Ysolda was being held. Once there I cleared the camp without any trouble, but there was no sign of Ysolda. On returning to Windstad Manor, Ysolda was happily mining and going about her daily business. I'm using both the Unofficial Skyrim Patch and the Unofficial Hearthfire patch. Sramdi (talk) 02:21, 22 January 2013 (GMT)

Warning! For those playing on PC and about to use the resurrect console command to fix the bug, do NOT do it until you've checked out their inventory. I tried this on my char's wife, and while it did fix her moonwalking, apparently that command also did a RESET on her inventory. Lost quite a bit of items, fortunately I saved before trying that command. So, before using that command, ensure that your spouse had nothing on him/her that you wouldn't mind missing. --Inishtar (talk) 18:12, 24 January 2013 (GMT)
Found a fix for this tonight, did it on the 360 after getting the glitch. Reloaded a save prior to going home to find her kidnapped, she was taken from my Falkreath house to Embershard mine. So after reloading the game, instead of going home and killing the bandit to get the quest, go straight to Embershard mine. I ignored Rochelle the Red and her bandits out front and ran straight inside, went to her cell and unlocked it. The bandit sitting across from my wife (Aela) attacks me, Aela draws her weapon and fights back and together we kill him. Since I did not get the quest, nothing has been completed. If you talk to her, all she said was she wants to get out of here, but she is also moving normally instead of backwards. She follows you till you get outside, then reverts back to normal as if dismissed. We got outside and we kill the rest of the bandits and I see Aela walking away perfectly normal, I talk to her and she seems fine, ask her to follow and we go back to my house, we kill the bandit that has the quest starting note, I read the note, No quest pops up. Aela still functions normally, even waited and slept for several hours and she's still perfectly fine. So pretty much if you have the Falkreath house and you get the embershard mine wife quest, DO NOT READ THE NOTE. Reload your last save, and go straight to the mine. Hope this helps everyone with this nasty glitch. --71.51.154.108 06:37, 13 February 2013 (GMT)

Anyone else having this issue?
When being sent to kill the vampire in the Dawnguard quest, "PREEMPTIVE STRIKE", you are supposed to find and destroy the "Master Vampire" prior to him turning the bandits into a lair of vampires.
So I go there, no vampire or master vampire exists. After slaying all of the bandits the quest remains incomplete. When using the spell Clairvoyance to locate the objective, it takes me to a female bandit body, but not to a vampire to slay. Reloaded prior to going in, however to no avail. Problem persisted after three separate attempts.
As with the other Embershard Mine glitches others here had posted, I to had my game spouse moonwalkiing and that quest had automatically completed. Possibly now that has damaged my ability to complete this quest. Uncertain. However I never bothered to fix the spouse. I just figured the bandits had somehow made her have to wear adult diapers, therefore explaining the walk, presuming a fully loaded depends, and moved on.
However, not completing this quest is less likely for me to ignore than a less fecal matter hauling spouse, Could use any assistnace from anyone finding a repair/fix for this bug in Dawnguard. Yes, I have Hearth as well.
Sympathetically understanding but impatient Dragonborn, please assist.

Only tested on Xbox 360: Having similar issues with Aela captured into Embershard, and was never given the chance to pay, or anything else, she was always "dead" by the time I got there. I tried this once and it worked, it is essentially the same as above, but it works on 360. Just RUN past everybody and get to the cage as QUICKLY as you can, and talk with her to make sure. Did this once and everything is back to the way it was before. I moved them to Solitude after so I didn't have to deal with it until a patch comes out. — Unsigned comment by 216.114.230.246 (talk) on 16 March 2013
I recently encountered this glitch as well while playing on the Xbox 360. The auto complete happened to me before I even went to the location (Robber's Gorge). After I rescued my wife Jordis she started doing her little moonwalk, and looked to be getting stuck on air. I have found in the past when a follower is glitching when it comes to movement that if you attack them to the point where they are crawling and let them recover that it usually fixes the glitch. I learned this trick because Serana would glitch into a permanent sneak crouch after combat if I was sneaking, even when I would stand up after. Every time she went to her crawling animation she would recover and move normally again. — Unsigned comment by Kenif (talkcontribs) on 14 April 2013

() to fix this glitch go back to a previous save before you received the ransom note to save your spouse. Kill the bandit carrying the note. DO NOT READ THE NOTE. If you know where your spouse will be (for me it was Embershard mine) immediately fast-travel there. Ignore all fighting and go straight to your spouse, unlock the cell and let her fight. this was the permanent repair that was the easiest for xbox 360 — Unsigned comment by 68.226.132.113 (talk) at 08:54 on 5 July 2013‎

Imaginary dog

One day when I came home from a quest, one of my kids greeted me and asked if I would let him keep my dog. I never had any contact with dogs in the game yet, and I sure as hell don't have a dog companion/follower. When I told him to keep the dog, there still isn't any at my house or around my kids. Is my kid seeing imaginary dogs? Should I take him to a doctor? Or might this be a glitch in correlation to the Barbas quest that I accepted? (I have got the quest, talked to Lod, but not searched for the dog yet - is it possible that by reaching this quest step, Barbas is already assigned to me as a companion?) WooShell (talk) 11:40, 2 November 2012 (GMT)

Storage Room Ext Round Table and Chairs bugged

I built my Lakeview Manor home with all three porch wings. Now the north wing, the storage wing, should have the option for a Round Table and Chairs on the exterior, but instead this option is placed on the other two wing workbenches, which when built add nothing. I'm pretty sure those two wings aren't suppose to have a Round Table and Chairs option, because there is no room for it. I think having the three porches connected like that causes some of the outdoor furniture options to migrate to the wrong workbenches.--RumblePen (talk) 11:40, 13 November 2012 (GMT)

This is not just from having all three porches. I have only the bedroom porch at Windstadt Manor. I built the round table option and it never appeared. I have only the storage room porch at Lakeview Manor, and there is no round table option. -- (65.168.235.36 14:39, 21 June 2013 (GMT))

If the reason why you want to get rid of your bard is so that you can adopt a child, it's a different matter entirely. You can only adopt a child if you have the "Bedrooms" wing (West wing), have build them a "child's bed" and "child's chest" for their belongings - there should be the option to build two of each, one for each child.
I also had the problem with getting rid of my bard, however (The Pale steading), and I'm not sure if there is a fix as of yet. I just ended up killing the poor woman and stuffing her body on top of a shelf in my Alchemy tower. I don't think Athis was quite impressed. — Unsigned comment by 86.155.117.236 (talk) at 21:16 on 7 March 2013‎
You don't need to Bedroom wing to adopt a child. Once you build the Main Hall, you have to build BOTH single beds and the dresser for the top floor. If you only have one bed, you can't adopt a child. I don't know why, but I tried adopting with only one bed and I had to tell her I didn't have space for her. I built the second bed and I was able to adopt Sophie. 65.27.107.95 23:32, 24 April 2013 (GMT)

Option to build an addition on work bench disappearing

I selected the armory to build and midway through had to fast travel for supplies. When I came back there was no option to build the remaining parts so I went over to the drafting table but the armory was gone off of the list. I scrolled down to turn the small house into an entryway option and when I returned to my work bench the option was back for me to continue construction on the armory. This happened again on my second house and once again I selected the entryway option and the options to build the addition came back.--76.21.138.175 23:57, 6 February 2013 (GMT)

Actually this bug has nothing to do with turning the small house into an entryway. Sometimes when you use the work bench, outside or even inside, it will remove options or add all decoration options back in. Simply exiting it and reopening it will fix this. Dialogue options to buy land not appearing

I got appointed thane in Dawnstar and got the housecarl, but there is no dialogue option to buy a plot of land. Am I supposed to get a letter? The only one I ever got was from Falkreath, even though I've since become thane in the other two holds. Also, Brina Merilis does not have a steward, so I'm assuming that she is the NPC that is supposed to have the land purchasing option. But she does not. 68.229.56.232 06:40, 8 February 2013 (GMT)

Armor Rendering Error (PS3)

Since installing Hearthfire (On PS3), I've noticed an error in the way that my armor renders (I am wearing Nightengale Armor). Its texture just looks like some sort of grey and black blur instead of the ornate patterns it normally has. I have also noticed a similar error involving the "Horned Studded Armor"--the top half looks like it is made of clay instead of its usual texture. Has anyone else noticed this error? Everything else seems to be fine (except that The Ebony Blade doesn't really "work" in any of the display racks. It just falls on the floor nearby). 98.65.233.117 08:23, 21 February 2013 (GMT)NimhShambler

Ebony blade thing is normal, has always done that afaik. Render thing has been around a long time as well, usually comes and goes. Lord Eydvar Talk|Contribs 08:34, 21 February 2013 (GMT)
I had the same problem with the Ebony Blade even before Hearthfire. I'm sure it's just a pure glitch, but I remember reading in the book Admonition Against Ebony in the quest where you get the blade that it's cursed and always justified the glitch as the curse of the Ebony Blade, you try to get rid of it, but you cant. As for the texture issue I have never had that problem until downloading Hearthfire, however the common work around of just reloading your save fixed the issue for me. 75.175.76.182 16:23, 21 February 2013 (GMT)

Everyone hates our dog!

After adopting and building Windstad mannor, I brought Vigilance home and the boy asked if he could be a pet (as I was hoping for). All was well and good for a few in-game days, normal dialogue of kids playing/arguing, bard doing what she was hired to do. All seemed good. Till one time I returned home and all everyone say now is just "Stupid Dog" over and over (pretty much after each bark, which happens alot). Now whenever Im home I JUST hear how much EVERYONE at home hates the dog, I barely hear anything else anymore. If I have the dog follow me and tell him to wait still at home, then they stop for that. I have to do that just to keep myself from hearing it over and over again, but it dosent last. Is there a problem/bug with dog pets? or just Vigilance? It seems like the family are more into hating the dog then interacting with each other anymore. If there's a way around this with a different dog then I will gladly trade him, but for now its really annoying (more so then the barks seem to be.) I'm not sure about this particular bug or whether any patch affected it at all, but a note on patches, since you seem unsure. In general, all official patches from Bethesda apply to all three platforms (Xbox, PS3, and PC), though they will not always be available on each platform at the same time. Problem building Alchemy Lab in Lakeview manor

On XBox 360: I have built my house at Lakeview Manor, kitchen is complete and wanted to build Alchemy Lab/Tower. I built it (correctly) and there is no 2nd floor, just a ladder in 1st floor that takes me directly to balcony. I went back to a previous saved game, which meant losing a lot of loot (coin and enchanted items) and started over again. It did the same thing! Is there a fix for this??? If anyone could please help I would really appreciate it because for one I really want the Alchemy Lab and two I am tired of going back to previously saved games and losing all of my loot! 209.206.158.9 16:19, 1 March 2013 (GMT)Maleena Stormbringer

Uhh, the two floors are not connected. There's a door upstairs and another one downstairs. Same for all the tower additions. (Enchanter's Tower, Library) — TheRealLurlock (talk) 16:44, 1 March 2013 (GMT)
While it's possible OP is confused as you say, I would think they would know the difference between 1st and 2nd floors. I THINK they are saying the 2nd floor of the alchemy tower is ON the first floor. As you know, the 1st floor of the tower doesn't have the Alchemy table in it, it's just really for storage. The 2nd floor has the table and the ladder to the roof. Is that what you're trying to say, OP? I have 360 and the Lakeview house, but I built the trophy room in the back of that house. My alchemy tower is in another house, and I don't have any issue like this. ~FiveCentFather (Ken N.) (talk) 22:58, 5 March 2013 (GMT)
1st floor has the building table, 2nd floor is where the alchemy table goes, but the ladder cuts across both floors to take you straight onto the balcony - so to get to the 2nd floor you have to run up the stairs first. — Unsigned comment by 82.17.14.182 (talk) at 19:44 on 9 March 2013

Problems building house

PS3: Since I've installed Dawnguard recently, I've been experiencing issues concerning building one of my houses in Hearthfire. I'm constructing the Enchanters tower in Lakeview Manor for the moment, I have only selected the blueprints. On the carpenters table, I can't see any option to build anything whereas I'm supposed to be able to build the foundations. If "Misc" does appear, I am able to remove the workbenches from the other mansions but not for the one where I am at. Sometimes nothing appears at al, and on the drafting table I can sometimes select "Small house layout" but most of the mansion has already been built. Anyone else having these problems and can I somehow report this to Bethesda? Thank you! — Unsigned comment by 87.64.211.39 (talk) at 20:22 on 2 March 2013

Sometimes you have to choose the carpenters table twice. First time, you get a list of stuff you probably have already, when you exit and go in the second time, it brings up a true reflection of where you are on the build. One of the things that always stumped me, was that you have to build a 'door' to a room, before you can actually 'build' the room [seems a strange way around!] — Unsigned comment by 82.17.14.182 (talk) at 19:48 on 9 March 2013

Letters Turning Blank

I have tested this fully, when I drop a letter inside the bookcases (any of them) in the library portion of The Lakeview Manner, if the book is one that contains the players name, or concerning the player, it goes completely blank with only a few notable exceptions and that is Kodlak's journal and a few other journal's I think that might have the players name in it.

One such case is the thief contract which is missing my character name and the name of the one who sent it. Other notes have simply become blank. The names of each note are correct ecxept for the letter from jarl which uses <alias=jarl> of <alias=holdcity> in it's name now.
Seen on PS3.

Can't continue quest.

I had just downloaded heart fire and started building my house, then it said I needed to buy lumber. I had already killed the vampires at the half moon mill for the dark brother hood. The other mills wouldn't sell me any logs so I bought a steward. But now the quest keeps saying to buy logs. — Unsigned comment by 75.76.43.38 (talk) on 11 March, 2013

I don't quite understand how other millers won't sell you any lumber, as far as I'm concerned, they always have the option to (maybe not if you haven't purchased a land plot)‎. In any case, maybe you should try buying another land plot elsewhere, as that might make the millers sell you logs again. ~ Dwarfmp (talk) 14:29, 11 March 2013 (GMT)
Any Sawyer will sell Logs to you if you raise his/her disposition towards you. You'll even have the option to saw your own Logs for free, instead of having to pay their high prices.
To raise the Sawyer's disposition, simply "chop wood" and sell it to him/her. After that, you'll have the "I want to buy some wood" dialogue option, followed by "Can I saw the logs myself?" Evil-i (talk) 02:53, 17 March 2013 (GMT)

Sacks may not be "Safe"

This refers to the last entry in the "Bugs" section on this page, about Hearthfire interiors resetting. After being away from Heljarchen Hall for more than 10 days, some of the interior clutter objects reset, as the page states. However, 6 of the Sacks had also respawned various food items. (All of the Sacks were empty when I left Heljarchen; I never use Sacks for storage.)

I have no idea if any player-owned items would be removed during this Sack resetting, or if the respawned items would simply be added to the existing inventory. It would certainly be worth some testing. Evil-i (talk) 03:03, 17 March 2013 (GMT)

I put some items into the sack on top of the barrel right next to the entrance in Lakeview Manor, didn't revisit it for a while, and when I came back that sack was empty. This also happened with one of the satchels in storage. Jazstar (talk) 00:40, 12 June 2013 (GMT)
I found the stuff I thought I lost >.< However, one of the strongboxes in the storage room in Lakeview Manor seems to reset - the one eye level, immediately to the left when entering the room. Jazstar (talk) 22:30, 19 June 2013 (GMT)

Disapering dog

When ever i go to markarth stables and buy vigalance i take him to my breezehome and tell him to wait here then i got out and od a quest or adventure like we all do but when i come back he is gone and i go back to markarth stables buy him again and he still keeps disapering i have tried this countless times and it still keeps wasting my money any suggestion sorry for bad grammer and spelling — Unsigned comment by 76.121.27.89 (talk) at 16:07 on 18 March 2013

--> Do you have children? You need at least one child at Breezehome. Then you take Vigilance in the house while the child is inside and it will ask to keep the dog. Then the dog will stay at your house. Garmadon98 (talk) 20:58, 18 March 2013 (GMT)

Buying Lumber bugging Miscellaneous Jobs from being given.

I bought the Lakeview property, built the small house, then went to Windhelm to get BotI out of the way before I started Dragons/Vampires etc. I had the Miscellaneous Quest 'Buy Lumber' from Half-Moon Mill but didn't have the money for any so ignored it. When I got to Winterhold, Malur wouldn't give me his quest. Neither would Haran in the Inn. I went to Kynesgrove and Roggi wouldn't give me his quest either. I thought it was BotI getting in the way so I spoke to Jorleif to clear it, but the miscellaneous quests still didn't drop. I decided to buy some lumber from Hert to see if that was the cause, and it was. After buying lumber, all the previously mentioned quests were allowed to be active. Just wondered if anyone else has noticed this. I'm on PS3 and ver.1.8. --SodiumHyena (talk) 00:45, 22 March 2013 (GMT)

Can the person I marry also be my personal steward?

I really want Lydia to be my wife and my steward. Is this possible? — Unsigned comment by 150.243.203.63 (talk) at 21:37 on 3 April 2013

I can't readily find the answer on the wiki. I wanted to do the same with Aela, but I don't think it gave me the option, either, so that might be the answer. You might need the console to do it, if at all. Minor EditsThreatsEvidence 21:43, 3 April 2013 (GMT)
The answer is yes. Any follower on the list of possible stewards can be made a steward. This includes Lydia. Most (but not all) follower spouses are possible stewards. I don't know what would happen if you moved your spouse to another home, though; I would recommend settling on a permanent home, moving your spouse to it, and then taking your spouse to the new home and asking him/her to be a steward there. At least that's how I did it. :) --Morrolan (talk) 13:50, 7 April 2013 (GMT)

Not working

Bought and built Lakeview Manor with bedrooms. Speaking to children I got the 'I didn't have a place for them' response. Installed all the latest patches. Approached the guy in Whiterun and paid for a childrens bedroom addition. It stayed in the menu and the alchemy set up remained. Removed Lakeview and unloaded Hearthfire. Reinstalled. Built house again. Still no option for children-no bed available. What am I doing wrong? Sniffles (talk) 09:33, 29 April 2013 (GMT)

Dawnguard Compatability

Can I keep a husky or a deathdog as pets at my home? Will the kids ask to keep them or is it not compatible. GamerAddict7796 (talk) 19:49, 23 May 2013 (GMT)

I'm not 100% but I don't think the kids will ask to keep them as a pet. I'm like 85% sure. Jeancey (talk) 19:54, 23 May 2013 (GMT)
Huskies yes, death hounds no. Rouxez (talk) 18:36, 3 June 2013 (GMT)

Steward glitch

I recently bought Helijarchen Hall from the Jarl of Dawnstar, built the entry and main hall and got Eola to be my steward. I paid her to furnish the rooms but after I did, I entered the home and it was still empty. I thought maybe it was a Eola that was causing the problem so I got someone from the Dawnguard expansion pack to be my steward but I still had the same problem. What should I do? — Unsigned comment by 24.183.49.48 (talk) at 17:35 on 8 June 2013

As explained on the Personal Steward page in this section, "When you ask a steward to decorate part of your home for you, they will not do so immediately. They will gradually add furnishing options over time, which can be a very slow process." So, in short, be patient. It's likely you just aren't waiting long enough for changes to take effect. — ABCface 20:22, 8 June 2013 (GMT)

Spouse does not have shop dialouge

I had on the marriage mod before getting married. After I married and realized that my spouse won't move into a home I create without having the mod turned off I quickly disabled it; only to still find that shop dialogue is STILL missing. What's with that? — Unsigned comment by MissKabby (talkcontribs) at 20:50 on 8 June 2013

The scripts are added at the point of marriage, so even though you've turned it off afterwards it's too late (if the mod was the problem). The script that makes an NPC a vendor is "RelationshipMarriageSpouseHouseScript". You may have to reset and redo the entire marriage to fix it. No logs....

Ok so I purchased the land for Windstad Manor and purchased some wood but it never showed up... so I went back to purchase more, in total I purchased 800 gold worth of logs and they never freaking showed up. Please tell me I'm not the only one with this glitch... And any advice on how to fix it would be well appreciated. — Unsigned comment by TheCraftyCarver (talkcontribs) at 01:28 on 12 July 2013

No dialogue option

I downloaded HF, and I completed every requirement listed on the pages for each individual home, but I still can't get the dialogue to purchase any of the houses from the stewards or jarls. Help? — Unsigned comment by 76.124.166.188 (talk) at 22:42 on 16 July 2013

No love or honesty from my Steward husband!

My character built the Windstad house and made Valdimar the steward. She married him and lo! HE WOULDN'T SLEEP WITH HER, lulz. Just went back to his own single bed. I checked Active Effects in case I missed something, but nope, only chastity had happened. The only way they even consummated their sham of a marriage was by making him a follower and having him wait all night while she slept at Breezehome. That finally worked.

With Lydia there. Creepy.

The reason I tried the Breezehome option is that when my character asked him to live somewhere else besides Windstad, he'd say yes then JUST NOT SHOW UP. Yup. Dragged to other cities and asked to stay in that city, he'd say "sure" then head immediately for the door to go home to Hjaalmarch.

So the only way to get the Lover's Comfort bonus with him would be to have him as a constant follower for whenever she needed to sleep.

I considered adopting two children to force him to sleep in the double bed with her, but what a load of machination just to get a Skyrim steward husband to behave *cough* normally.

Nuts to that. The marriage was annulled by a reload to an earlier save.

Maybe Vilkas is still free. — Unsigned comment by 206.47.78.150 (talk) at 06:04 on 17 July 2013

Valdimar is the victim of a known bug:
  • When hired as a steward, he will attempt to travel to Lakeview Manor instead of Windstad Manor due to an incorrect destination marker in his package. If Windstad Manor has not yet been purchased, he will venture off to Helgen instead.
Perhaps you can try getting him to be your husband at Lakeview Manor and that may work for you? — ABCface 06:09, 17 July 2013 (GMT)
Maybe I'll try that. I like his mage skills and dialogue as a steward/follower, and he has the right height for my tall Nord maiden; Vilkas is a little short. :D
I do like to move around a lot, however, so the bug would need to be solved by displacing him to Lakeview. I'll try then report in a couple of days.
BTW forgot to mention, this is on a PS3. — Unsigned comment by 206.47.78.150 (talk) at 06:16 on 17 July 2013
