Rebuilding of Helgen[edit]

Hi,

Is there any chance of Helgen being rebuilt? Or will it stay in ruins, like Kvatch in Oblivion?--Greg 16:13, 2 January 2012 (UTC)

Probably not. I guess it would be mentioned somewhere by now if that was the case. Wolok gro-Barok 16:27, 2 January 2012 (UTC)
I've read that you can indeed play with a helgen that doesnt get destroyed using commands in a bat file. However the mainquest is not playable if you do this. — Unsigned comment by 192.148.117.107 (talk) at 08:03 on 10 January 2012
Upon returning to Helgen after the introduction, the area is still destroyed and has been abandoned by bandits. Rhoan 21:18, 29 January 2012 (UTC)
I wonder whether resetquest MQ101 restores Helgen to its former glory. Did anyone dare to try it? 212.186.15.63 13:53, 15 October 2020 (UTC)

Mead with Juniper Berries found[edit]

From the idle chatter at the starting scene, Raluf mentions mead with juniper berries being made at Helgen. When you return to Helgen afterward, if you retrace your steps from the tower and jump into the neighbouring building, there'll be a few bottles of Mead with Juniper Berries in the upper floor. 24.156.216.144 14:01, 24 February 2012 (UTC)

Unique Iron Arrow?[edit]

Across the courtyard from the two entrances to Helgen Keep, you'll find an archery target and a sword-practice mannequin target. (Whether these targets exist during the Tutorial, or appear after the Bandit squatters claim Helgen, I don't know.) Stuck in the mannequin target I found an Iron Arrow with these stats: Damage = 1, Weight = 0, Value = 1. (A regular Iron Arrow does 8 damage.) In my game, (360), I couldn't place the Arrow in my inventory, but I could "grab" it and carry it around. In spite of being weightless, it fell through the ground and disappeared when dropped.

After the Helgen cell respawns, I'll visit to see if the Arrow is there again.Evil-i 19:24, 1 March 2012 (UTC)

Early Free-roam[edit]

I discovered that if you pause and 'Show location on map,' you can see the map early. Fast travel to Helgen, and you'll be outside the map and free to roam the world, albeit without being able to do anything with the bindings on. Just a fun little thing to do. --RandomPlayer268 06:10, 19 April 2012 (UTC)

Moved Note[edit]

  • "Helgen" means "the weekend" in Swedish.

While etymology notes are now allowed, they have to have some clear connection to the location or character in question. I don't see what "the weekend" has to do with this settlement. I guess if their was some hidden bonus that you could only get on Lorendas or Sundas in-game or on Saturday and Sunday in real life it would be relevant, but I'm unaware of any such secret. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 20:14, 20 May 2012 (UTC)

How polite and welcoming. About 75% of the time I edit a page some obvious idiot called by the Falmer is summoned and magically undoes it. This site's aim is to provide info. You undoers make me angry. I might turn back to the Elder Scrolls wiki soon because of you illbiting lessers. You want info or not bro? SFK363 18:01, 23 May 2012 (UTC)
SFK363... If you can provide a detailed, relevant reason that the etymology note in question is relevant, then feel free to add it back. The site's aim is to provide information, just like you said, however, unlike Wikia, we provide relevant information, and "the weekend" is one of the most irrelevant translations I have ever seen added to the site. Snowmane(talkemail) 18:13, 23 May 2012 (UTC)
I think I know of a way it could be relevant, the game starts on the weekend, Sundas if I remember. So the name Helgen would simply be a reference to when the game begins, and I'm not entirely sure but I believe both Morrowind and Oblivion start on Sundas as well. 69.204.41.246 12:50, 30 June 2012 (UTC)

Mead with Juniper Berry[edit]

They are still there for me. — Kimi the Elf (talk | contribs) 04:42, 21 June 2012 (UTC)
I just checked. They are there for me as well. --Xyzzy 05:49, 21 June 2012 (UTC)
I found the bug in the Enable some months ago. Hopefully, the fix will be in USKP eventually. I'll put the bug on the Homestead page.

Residents?[edit]

I don't see any reason to assume that the people listed as resident (at least most of them) live in Helgen. We might think about that at some point. --JR (talk) 19:21, 2 December 2012 (GMT)

I'm rather confused, I went to Helgen and found a candelabra that was lit and a bed marked as owned. WHO'S HERE? 24.184.220.51 02:06, 7 February 2013 (GMT)

Strange bandit ambush[edit]

After escaping Helgen Keep with Hadvar, I decided to directly to Riften on foot to start the Dawnguard questline. While walking down the road from Helgen to Riften I came accross a sight I have never seen on this road before. There was the scene of a raided caravan with the bodies of Kaijjit traders everywhere. Upon ivestigating the scene I was attacked by a group of four bandits. Has anyone else had this happen to them? I'm playing on xbox with no mods and this has only ever happened to me when I tried to go directly from Helgen to Riften. Note: Entering a different cell seems to clean up the entire scene of the bandit attack. (Lordofmagicvoldemort (talk) 10:18, 2 February 2013 (GMT))

It's one of the random encounters you can come across in the game. I've seen it 4 or 5 times. It doesn't seem to be listed in World Interactions though... AyaHawkeye (talk) 21:30, 27 July 2013 (GMT)

Two people[edit]

When you are in the cart, right before you enter Helgen there are two people (both in green clothes, one is male the other is female, and one of them has a basket of flowers, I think) walking on the road. Do they have names or are they just generic people? If they had names they should be added to the article. 81.156.151.197 15:46, 17 December 2014 (GMT)

Maybe it's MQ101GenericCivilianNordFemale and MQ101GenericCivilianNordMale? Don't think we have them documented. —Legoless (talk) 19:35, 17 December 2014 (GMT)

Note that needs scrutiny[edit]

Moved from main page:

  • At Helgen, when you return after a few days has passed since you escaped, there will be what seems a body impaled on a pole outside Helgen, upon inspection three bandits will then appear from the entrance and start attacking you (but as long you don't start "Before the Storm" quest, don't talk to Companions slaying the Giant and especially don't enter Whiterun, this will not happen - Helgen will remain bandit free)

Questions: A. Is there such an attack when one 'inspects' (activates? gets close enough to?) a body, or was this just a case of the bandits on patrol just inside the entrance detecting the player? B. What triggers the bandits moving in? Is it the passage of time, or is it a script activated by fulfilling certain conditions? The lead implies that it is time (tied to the usual repopulaton of uncleared places, then?) but this needs a closer look. —likelolwhat talk lulzy to me 07:05, 8 February 2016 (UTC)

Answer B: I think the trigger for the bandits moving in for this location is tied with the main story advancement, not by the simple passage of time, like in the other locations. I have spent a lot of in-game months in Skyrim with Helgen being bandit free by not advancing the main quest line. 89.40.72.110 17:59, 30 September 2017 (UTC)

Helgen never respawns ??[edit]

I have a hard time believing Helgen, which is an exterior cell, never respawns, since bandits do respawn here. Does this mean you can leave stuff lying on the ground for months in Helgen ? Loxias (talk) 18:10, 16 November 2016 (UTC)

Yeah. I'm almost certain I have returned several times only to see the respawned bandits. It maybe means the interior. --Jimeee (talk) 17:54, 16 November 2016 (UTC)
The entire zone is marked as non-respawning, meaning storage is safe, but loose items are not always safe. From what I remember the bandits are added or reinstated by a script, which overrides the respawn tag. Some of the exterior cells use the Skyrim zone and not the Helgen zone as their parent and therefore lack the safety, but the wardrobe and end table in the exterior inn are confirmed safe storage. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 18:25, 16 November 2016 (UTC)
At least one container in the inn respawns. It was at least three years ago when I found out. I put stuff into a container (can't remember which one) to stop them taking up inventory space, and came back later after doing some quests around Solstheim and found that it had gone—I think there might have been one or two items that remained, but they were probably new things, solely derived from the container respawning. When I get round to setting up the 360 again (put away due to getting the Xbox One), I'll go look round the inn to see if déjà vu can bring back the memory of what container it was (if I'm lucky) so we can give that particular container a mention on the article to say that storage isn't safe in it. •D. G.|Talk|Work• 00:23, 7 December 2016 (UTC)
I've tested it: There are 11 containers outside in Helgen, and the only two that do not respawn are the Wardrobe and End Table in the inn, which are containers that don't respawn anywhere. The article shouldn't call it a safe storage area. Olaus (talk) 01:20, 12 June 2021 (UTC)
