Weapon preference[edit]

I've removed the following info from the page:

  • equips weapons in this descending order of preference: War Axe, Battleaxe, Sword, Dagger, Mace, Greatsword, Warhammer, and Bow.

I don't think this is right at all, and that preference is merely based on weapon damage ~ Dwarfmp (talk) 02:40, 24 January 2014 (GMT)

Melaran and Irnskar[edit]

I'm just curious as to why they aren't considered housecarls. They seem to be housecarls, just like, say Lydia. Their duties aren't restricted to being bodyguards either, if you listen to their dialogue with their employers. Vicano (talk) 16:01, 3 June 2014 (GMT)

Housecarls are in sworn service to someone, not paid to stay. If Melaran or Irnskar were not employed they would have no reason to stay with their respective employees. They are even marked as employees in the ck, whereas the others are not. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 16:11, 3 June 2014 (GMT)

Splitting the article[edit]

I'm wondering if we should split it in the same way the steward article has been split (i.e. personal housecarls, and the Jarls' housecarls). Vicano (talk) 11:34, 31 August 2014 (GMT)

Housecarl replacement?[edit]

So, Lydia's dead. Some crazy person sacrificed her to Boethiah (shortly after she blocked my staircase once too many times). What's tearing me up about her loss is the fact that I have this perfectly good bedroom in Breezehome going to waste. When a Housecarl meets an 'untimely' end, is it possible to hire a new Housecarl for that estate? Someone willing to protect me with their life (until someone else sees fit to end it)? Medouneu (talk) 08:45, 2 June 2015 (UTC)

You can get other housecarls by becoming thane of another hold, but you only get one housecarl per hold. Once they're gone, they're gone. •WoahBro►talk 13:55, 2 June 2015 (UTC)

To split or not to split?[edit]

Since we have separate articles for the Jarl's stewards and yours, should we do the same for housecarls? Vicano (talk) 16:12, 16 October 2016 (UTC)

Personal Stewards were split because of the amount of things they could do that were vastly different to ordinary stewards, and that there are a huge number of people you can choose to make stewards necessitating the need for detailed lists that would make a mess of a combined page to the point of unreadability. Housecarls are set and are simply lists, and a separate page on player housecarls would be an overblown copy of the housecarl section on the followers page with the addition of a duplication of the explanation of a housecarl on this page. In short a personal steward is not the same as a steward, but all housecarls are essentially the same, the only difference being some are available as followers and some are attached to NPCs. Housecarls riding horses[edit]

Is there anyway that a Housecarl can ride double on my horse while I am traveling. Would make since if they could because then I would not have to wait on them to catch up.
