FAQ[edit]

Is is possible to do this quest for all three people? --69.136.102.9 20:05, 22 December 2011 (UTC)

Of course it is. --Quozar 19:05, 24 December 2011 (UTC)
I just encountered the bugged version (Linwe already dead), but resurrecting the corpse (clicking on him in Console mode) did not do anything. However, selecting him by the prid 0007d67a documented in the wiki here, and resurrecting that prid worked. Somehow his corpse in the Summerset Shadows quest chain has a different prid than in the radiant quest version. 188.192.188.111 12:39, 12 March 2012
The console command information listed doesn't seem to fix the glitch that occurs when you get directed to the cave by the radiant system after killing Linwe for the thieve's guild. Anyone have any idea why that's the case? — Unsigned comment by 68.51.76.0 (talk) at 05:11 on 19 March 2012
7D67A doesn't work for me either. I had to use setstage. Console killing C5688 (as suggested below) works too; I just can't resurrect/enable/move him to player to do in game killing. 71.132.198.190 05:52, 18 June 2012 (UTC)
setstage not working for me, and I'm pretty sure I'm doing everything wrong. Bad luck? -- 81.16.104.1 17:27, 20 February 2013 (GMT)

I cant kill the leader of uttering hills camp[edit]

I did the thieves guild quests so I cant finish this quest.

Setstage104 15 does not work.. — Unsigned comment by 85.230.55.123 (talk) at 20:50 on 29 March 2012

after hours of searching, finally found out the problem. The cave is first occupied by bandits and a bandit chief (c5688) which is the bandit leader to be killed. after a certain level of the thieves guild quests(level 40 i believe) the bandits are removed and replaced with sommerset shadows and linwe as the leader. this makes it so the "bandit leader" isnt there to be killed no matter how many times you kill linwe.
solution: open console, type "PRID c5688", this should set your "target" as the original bandit leader, type "KILL", and that should advance it on. hope this helps. — Unsigned comment by 24.161.70.52 (talk) at 05:29 on 12 June 2012
For me none of the fixes work. To begin with, there's no quest marker at all. After killing and disabling the summerset shadows via the console, the bandits and the bandit chief spawns, but still no quest marker. Killing the bandit chief again doesn't change anything. Tried all possible combinations of enabling/disabling/killing/resurrecting the chief. but nada. Setstage does not work either. Looks like this quest is permanently stuck in my journal. 85.66.211.226 14:24, 21 April 2013 (GMT)
Edit to the above: I was able to fix this. I had to resurrect, enable, kill and then disable Linwe instead of the bandit leader. With him resurrected and enabled, the quest marker appeared also.85.66.211.226 18:33, 22 April 2013 (GMT)
I can confirm the above. SetStage did not work for me. PRID c5688 did not work. This is what worked: "PRID 7d67a", "resurrect", "kill". NikolausVon (talk) 23:44, 17 August 2013 (GMT)

Fourth quest giver + bug[edit]

I recieved this quest (for Uttering Hills Cave), not from one of the three listed, but from Kjar (his dialogue claims it was one of his old crew members). I also experienced the bug involving the quest arrow pointing to Linwe's corpse, but the bugs section seems to mention that this only happens with Bruunwulf as the quest giver. Schiffy (talk) 03:36, 17 October 2012 (GMT) EDIT: I stand corrected. It's a different quest with the same objective. Schiffy (talk) 03:37, 17 October 2012 (GMT)

A reward from Fanari ("verification needed")[edit]

I can confirm that the reward from Fanari is "leveled gold". It is 'FavorRewardGoldLarge' ('LvlQuestReward03Large'):

Levels Reward
1–9 500
10–19 750
20–29 1,000
30–39 1,250
40+ 1,500

Amulet of the Moon Interference[edit]

Kharjo's Amulet of the Moon quest can prevent a quest giver from giving one of these quests if said amulet is located in the location the quest giver is trying to direct you to. — Unsigned comment by 68.36.66.73 (talk) at 04:41 on 19 September 2013

Dungeon Delving interference[edit]

Can a Dungeon Delving quest in the same location block this? Because I can't get Ahtar to give me his quest even when I have none of the others active, only thing I can think of is Noster's Helmet which is also set for the grotto. --108.173.141.168 07:38, 25 July 2014 (GMT)

Have you done the Lights Out quest for Jaree-Ra? If you kill Captain Hargar before starting Ahtar's quest, he won't give it to you, so if you've already completed Lights Out, you may have ended up killing Hargar, which will prevent Ahtar from giving you the quest. Shout makes the quest unfinishable[edit]

Using Bend Will to the Bandit Leader and then attacking him as an ally causes the story to continue, but Fanari refuses to talk to you saying you have a job to do. — Unsigned comment by 178.77.243.253 (talk) at 22:19 on 17 November 2014 (UTC)

Annekke Crag-Jumper and Brunwulf Free-Winter both wanting to give the same location[edit]

In my playthrough I ran into a pretty annoying bug. Both Annekke and Brunwulf wish to send me to Uttering Hills (and I have not done the thieves guild quest), but for obvious reasons I can only do one of these quests at the time. Since there have been many reports that one of these don't offer their quest, I thought it happened for me too, so I loaded back pretty far and started testing it. It turns out that if I talk to Annekke first, she will give me the quest, but Brunwulf will never have his dialog option, even after the dungeon respawned. The same happened the other way around. Then I found out that if on my way to Annekke, I even so much as came close to Windhelm (I've not even discovered it yet, to avoid bugs and the sort), she won't give me the quest and instead Brunwulf does. It appears the quest locations are fixed in your playthrough, loading back always yields the same location. However, waiting 30 days for the dungeon to respawn did not fix it- the missing dialog option for the second one never showed up even after I doublechecked if the bandit leader was respawned.

But, I did find a fix. It appears that loading their quest has to do with loading the map cell, because as soon as I slightly approached Windhelm (and not even visiting it) the choice of the game was fixed with Brunwulf. So I went to a savegame where I had finished Brunwulf's quest, but I have NEVER even visited the map cell where Annekke was in that save. I slept for 30 days in my house in Markarth and then I travelled to Annekke (avoiding Windhelm entirely, idk if this has any influence). And there her dialog option was. I've done so many experiments with it, and this turns out the only thing that worked for me. Maybe it works for you guys too? — Unsigned comment by 83.85.60.24 (talk) at 14:00 on 10 June 2015 (UTC)

Annekke Crag Jumper[edit]

Annekke Crag Jumper's mission seems to send me to Winter War. Since this is not on the list, perhaps the page should be updated. Note that I am using the USLEEP patch. — Unsigned comment by 73.231.49.184 (talk) at 01:25 on 20 October 2016

This is the consequence of a USLEEP modification. The Winter War is marked as a Winterhold location and USLEEP changes it to Eastmarch. This means it meets the 'same hold as quest giver' check made by the quest when taking to Annekke. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 01:02, 20 October 2016 (UTC)

Ahtar gave me a different location to kill bandit leader in[edit]

Ahtar gave me Orphan's Tear as the place to clear out the bandit leader instead of Broken Oar Grotto.

Will edit if this can happen in future playthrough's I usually don't do this quest.

I started but not yet finished lights out! I am using the unofficial patchBlackSladdi (talk) 02:41, 19 November 2017 (UTC)

As above, this is a result of using the patch. Orphan's Tear lacks the Bandit Camp keyword to be used, which the patch fixes. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 14:37, 19 November 2017 (UTC)

Unstartable Quest? Possible Fix[edit]

"Annekke Crag-Jumper or Ahtar may not give this radiant quest, even if you have no other active quests that could possibly conflict with it. This renders it impossible to recruit them as a follower."

According to my experience this is not true. Whenever this quest was stuck another Quest targeted one of the possible locations and prevented me from starting it. However merely retrieving the quest item and finishing the conflicting quest(s) made the quest aquireable. Beware not to kill the bandit leader for Ahtar's quest though as that cave does not respawn. — Unsigned comment by Joschy (talkcontribs) at 09:46 on 8 April 2019 (UTC)

Additional location[edit]

Fanari Strong-Voice just now gave me a job to kill off bandits at Haknir's Shoal. Is that Vanilla? Should it be added as a possible location? 17:52, 13 November 2022 (UTC)
