Malborn Sees Dead People[edit]

Eh, you know when someone dies his or her body will be moved to some fancy unnamed cell in few days. Well I teleported there and it was like a a poor man's Sovngarde. There was a pile of bodies and this Malborn guy was just hanging around there in his underwear. He was totally alive and I haven't met him yet in Skyrim. Is this some of his perverted hobbies or...? Ha ha, lol. No, most likely one of two things happened.
  1. Players who are key to the main story will be alive in that cell until the quest they are needed for pops up, then that person is teleported into Skyrim and stays in Skyrim until they are killed. This is done to make sure the person doesn't die before the quest starts. Wouldn't want a dragon encounter gone horribly wrong to ruin your main story.
  2. He might be stuck in there. He could have fallen through the floor or something. No way to know for sure until you start the quest. (99.136.224.214 04:02, 18 December 2011 (UTC))
I saw that two. I think its one of the ideas to remove bodies from the game so that there aren't just dead bodies lying on the floor throughout the game. By the way, the Malborn mentioned on this page here looks different to the Malborn in the X cell (X for unnamed cell). Otherwise I don't know why its there, I keep going back there and seeing Grelod the Kind and Saadia just lying on the floor naked. — Unsigned comment by 86.171.222.210 (talk) at 10:39 on 22 May 2012
I think most NPCs moved there (or spawned there) have no items by default, and are given their equipment when they're moved into a cell to play a part in their associated quest(s). It's a funny way of doing things when I'm pretty sure the game engine can handle permanent deletion of a character and recreating them fresh, but they maybe get sent there for convenience so you can see "at a glance" who's alive or not, and also bring them back simply teleporting them to your location and running commands on them. () This is actually a special test cell for dead bodies, with the cell ID of WIDeadBodyCleanupCell. The version of Malborn here is fake. Apparently, he's there in case you successfully interrupt Roggvir's execution, as Roggvir will be teleported here and be killed by this fake Malborn. Other bodies (but not all) go here after a few days, such as Nilsine Shatter-Shield, Ancano, and Vittoria Vici. Schiffy (talk) 17:42, 15 November 2012 (GMT)

Essential?[edit]

Since he can definitely die after the point in the quest where he's caught by the Thalmor, perhaps "Essential" ought to be changed to "Essential until X time," whatever specific time that might be. I don't know when that is, however. 73.173.119.137 16:35, 23 September 2017 (UTC)

Rather unsurprisingly his essential status is removed just before he is taken hostage. The page has been updated with the information, thanks. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 17:04, 23 September 2017 (UTC)

Different Dialogue from him after i rescued him[edit]

At the Thalmor Embassy I killed 2 of the thalmor that were with him he told me not now. then when i approached him again he said shut up will you?

Usually he would say now the thalmor will be chasing me for the rest of his life or something like that but this time he tells me not now and shut up will you? — Unsigned comment by PrinceRetro (talkcontribs) at 14:56 on 29 May 2018
