fighting him[edit]

I question the description of fighting him, when I was facing him I found him very easy, I just used an enchanted war axe (fire) and took him down in about 10 hits and he did almost no damage to me --Lord.Baal 03:40, 21 November 2011 (UTC)

Marked For Death seemed to have little effect on him. I use the shout with great success against Elder Dragons but I hit Otar several times with the full 3-word version and the fight was still very close. My damage was mainly done with fire spells. Given the properties of his mask, charging in with weapons is the way to go. 24.22.62.6 16:08, 9 February 2012 (UTC)
You don't actually have to kill him to get to the Word Wall. The gate opens when the coffin does, so you can easily sneak past him if you're not ready to fight him yet. You'll have to get him away from where he stands though, but an arrow makes for a good distraction if fired at a nearby wall. --Koden 22:20, 26 November 2011 (UTC)
"It is possible to get Otar from his coffin without having to search for the skull keys by shooting a fireball at the coffin." I'm changing the wording because Otar does not even appear to spawn inside the sarcophagus before the player has acquired both skull keys and returned to it (you can see the sarcophagus changes from empty to occupied if you use Aura Whisper or Detect Dead). You may be able to "wake" him with a spell, but not before you actually go and get the keys. 71.178.115.32 16:37, 27 February 2012 (UTC)
You can also blast him out by casting runes on the coffin, or any area of effect spell.
He summons Storm Atronach, and uses primarily lightning spells.96.250.18.45 00:58, 14 April 2012 (UTC)

() J'zargo's flame cloak can also wake him up if you come close enough for the explosion. — Unsigned comment by 82.73.72.148 (talk) at 16:06 on 24 June 2012

His staff is not unique[edit]

The article says his staff is unique. It isn't. It appears on leveled lists for dragon priests and is one of the staves that can be constructed at Neloth's Staff Enchanter (and any other staff enchanters added by CC DL's). — Unsigned comment by 174.28.6.80 (talk) at 03:08 on 20 March 2024

This is true. Fixed now, thanks! --Oriwa Talk 03:53, 20 March 2024 (UTC)
