Not credited with the Briar Heart[edit]

One of the three materials is a Briar Heart, and the quest points to a specific Forsworn Briarheart, and his chest appears to be ripped open. He has a briar heart ingredient, but collecting that does not trigger a quest update. I wonder if it's a specific Briar Heart that is necessary or if there's something I'm missing. 24.156.216.144 11:56, 20 November 2011 (UTC)

I think it may be that the quest doesn't have the stages where the briar heart is collected. Manual advancement may be required to complete the quest. 24.156.216.144 12:54, 20 November 2011 (UTC)

Advancing the quest to stage 60 via console (setstage ms12b 60) after acquiring the Briar Heart and other ingredients results in the player being able to turn in the ingredients, and proceed with the quest. The Briar Heart from the specific Forsworn Briarheart is marked as a quest item, and cannot be consumed or dropped. — Unsigned comment by 66.117.145.231 (talk) at 04:16 on November 21, 2011
Does anyone have the specific item code for that Briarheart? I got hit with this bug, used the console to manually advance it, and completed the quest. Unfortunately, the two briar hearts I have in inventory are STILL marked as quest items; I can't drop them, I can't eat them, and I can't use them in alchemy. --QuillanTalk 04:41, 23 November 2011 (UTC)
I'm not 100% sure if the quest Briar Heart used is a unique item code or not. However, to get rid of the lock on your ingredients, try typing "player.drop 0003AD61 XXX" where XXX is the amount in your inventory. It should clear the data from the items since it removes them from your inventory. That's all I can think of. Good luck. --74.137.141.215 06:10, 25 November 2011 (UTC)
I can confirm that "setstage ms12b 60", then give a Briarheart to the quest giver, followed by "player.drop 0003AD61 XXX" to drop all others does allow one to finish the quest and then pickup/drop/and use Briarhearts normally afterwards. 71.63.56.224 22:16, 26 November 2011 (UTC)
I'm having this exact problem, I don't suppose there's a workaround for 360 and PS3 players? Haravikk 12:40, 24 November 2011 (UTC)
I believe this bug is caused if you already have a Briar Heart in your possession, probably from (quite rightly) thinking that any Briar Heart should do. If you're embarking on this quest then you should probably make sure to clear your inventory of Briar Hearts before accepting it, then go take the specific heart the quest points you to.Haravikk 12:57, 25 November 2011 (UTC)

() If you get the quest form the courier, then somehow get your hands on a briar heart before being told to get one by Quintus, the quest will not know you have one after you have spoken. The compass will direct you to the briar heart you are supposed to get, and even after you pick it up, the quest won’t update, and Quintus won’t do anything either, even though you have all three items in your inventory. The only way to fix it that I found, was to use the console, and advance the quest to stage 60, at which point you will be directed to Quintus, and he will take 1 of each item from you (meaning you will still have any number of additional briar hearts you may have picked up). The quest will be completed and you will get the phial, but you will be stuck with any additional hearts in your inventory as permanent quest items. Jyggorath 21:48, 27 November 2011 (UTC)

Can somebody please explain how to get to the console on PS3? or is there another cheat/way to enter the cheat 76.21.165.145 03:31, 29 November 2011 (UTC) Mordock
I got arrested and escaped without claiming my items, i then waited for the specific briarheart to respawn, i then killed him and carried on as normal. — Unsigned comment by 86.25.146.101 (talk) at 18:50 on December 11, 2011
Contra : the above didn't work for me (PS3). All quest items reappear in your inventory after escaping from prison even if you didn't retrieve your items from the chest, including the damn briar hearts. So quest remains bugged and impossible to complete (version patch 1.3) — Unsigned comment by 78.216.104.121 (talk) at 14:03 on December 17, 2011‎
On 360, with this quest glitched, I was able to eat all of my Briar Hearts in prep for waiting for the quest target to respawn. From a fresh console power off/on, load the desired save file, open your inventory, eat 1 briar heart. Exit inventory and go back in and eat the rest. Those eight hearts could have used some salt. Fingers crossed for respawn! — Unsigned comment by 98.237.170.74 (talk) at 00:17 on December 27, 2011‎
I've let at least 15 game days go by, and this guy still is laying where I originally killed him. Any tips or tricks for triggering the respawn?Ilysanna 23:46, January 1, 2012‎ (UTC)
I am also having issues with the Briar heart step, but for me using the console commands to drop the items and picking it back up isn't working. Any help would be much appreciated. — Unsigned comment by 98.69.173.72 (talk) at 01:16 on January 4, 2012‎

() Can anyone confirm the following. As of Update 1.4 - platform PS3 I believe this is fixed. I had 0 Briar Hearts in inventory when the courier arrived starting the quest. Before starting it I had managed to pick up 3 of them and all were locked as quest items in my inventory. When I actually started the quest it updated that the Briar Heart portion of the quest was done. I haven't got the snow yet because I'm at the Alduin's Bane part of the main quest and I don't want to do that yet so I can't say if the spare 2 Briar Hearts will unlock when the quest is finished. Philbert 18:16, 27 February 2012 (UTC)

Additional Note - I finished the quest and had 2 Briar Hearts out of the 3 I started with. They were still quest locked so I couldn't place them in a container or drop them but I could eat them. Philbert 00:51, 29 February 2012 (UTC)
I had a similar problem with the powdered mammoth tusk. By the time I did the quest, I had found two of these already and had them in my alchemy storage chest in my home in Whiterun. However, neither of them is recognized by the game, which seems eager for me to go and whack a giant or two. On the other hand, the Briar Heart it wanted was obtained ridiculously easily: I bought it from Nurielion, who had two in the store's inventory. 174.6.51.17 21:55, 10 June 2012 (UTC)
One of the solution is to store any Briar heart (if you had any in your inventory)into the Forsworn itself, and then take it back. Simple as that :) — Unsigned comment by 113.211.73.140 (talk) at 13:56 on January 26, 2013
I also had the briar heart not updating the quest bug. But even after using the "setobjectivecompleted MS12b 50 1" and the "setstage MS12b 60" commands the quest was still bugged in the following way: When I got back Quintus had the dialogue option for returning the items and went upstairs to Nurelion. However, when Nurelion was meant to die he just did the bleedout thing and then went back to sleep. Quintus then initiated conversation again but didn't have the "Nurelion has died" dialogue tree, because that dialogue requires Nurelion to be dead, which he wasn't. The fix for it is to make Nurelion non-essential so he dies when he should. The command for that is "setessential 14148 0". Perhaps this should be added to the bug page. --Threore (talk) 10:18, 14 March 2013 (GMT)
This bug still exists as of 2015. I tried several ways to get the quest to update. First, I just killed him and took heart-no update. 2nd method I tried, was I pick-pocketed the heart from the BH. He droped dead-but no update. Further, when I went to loot him, he had another heart in his inventory. Neither heart gave the update however. I would note I had a number of BHs, back in my home stored. In additon, the BH marked kept his marker with him as target even after all items had been looted from him.
Late 2015 and this quest is *still broken* at the briar-heart stage. Return to Quintus and he will have no dialogue to advance the quest, nor will the Journal the be updated on looting the heart. The most reliable fix is setstage ms12b 60 afaik. Both the patch of snow and mamoth power DO get flagged as no-drop quest items, its only the heart that seems to fail almost every time. This *should*, barring any other glitches, trigger Quintus to take the items and finish the quest normally. I suspect its because the game uses the radiant system for the heart, rather than setting and spawning a dedicated BH with a unique quest heart.

"This bug still exists as of 2015" Same here. I suspect, that having been at the quest location before (at any time in the game), triggers this bug. This game has still, with all patches, official and unofficial, too many bugs to make fun. No more TES for me...

I'm using the latest version of the Unofficial Skyrim Patch and still ran into the same bug. The Forsworn Briarheart was already dead, and the quest marker pointed to him, so I went to loot his corpse. I picked out the briarheart. Nothing happened, and the arrow was still pointing to his corpse. I dropped the heart and picked it up again, but still nothing. I went back to Windhelm with all 3 ingredients and tried talking to Quintus, but no new dialogue options came up. I hope this gets fixed in the next patch version. Unable to get into Sundered Tower.[edit]

I might be an idiot. But I cleared Sundered Tower in a previous quest, now when I return to complete the Repairing the Phial quest I can't get into the Sundered Tower, the door is barred from the other side. Bug? Not sure how to proceed at this point, if it was locked I could pick it or use the console to unlock the door, but barred is another matter. I can't even CoC as I don't know the cell name. 98.112.231.234 20:33, 22 November 2011 (UTC)

Just hop on the rocks to go around, I had to do that. Remember the tower across the bridge the first time you cleared it? Instead of entering the tower, if you turn left as you cross the bridge and go down the ramp there's a doorway into the base. Down there you can raise the bar to make that door openable. I had the same issue; I missed that bar when I cleared the Forsworn camp, and fast travel put me on the far side. --QuillanTalk 04:33, 23 November 2011 (UTC)

Quest Not Given until after gaining access to throat of the world[edit]

I did the first white phial quest ages ago (maybe a year in-game) but just now am completing the main quest, so perhaps both of these conditions must be filled. 108.20.109.24 07:38, 23 November 2011 (UTC)

it was the same for me. the courier happened to bother me in dragonsreach while I was very busy trying to capture some very very big game. — Unsigned comment by 83.160.118.184 (talk) at 04:29 on 24 November 2011
is there any way to force the quest to start? — Unsigned comment by 173.180.206.197 (talk) at 06:13 on 7 December 2011
Same here, never got the quest - I wonder if doing a setstage command for this quest would cause the courier to arrive. --Cdevine 22:24, 11 December 2011 (UTC)
I also had problems with it starting, though I got it extremely quickly (days, if that) after getting access to the Throat of the World through the main quest. As somebody already edited in the top of the actual article, some part of that quest is necessary for the letter to come to you, and that's what I experienced. --EriolAncalagon 15:54, 12 December 2011 (UTC)
Oh, so specifically accessing the throat of the world and making your way to Paarthurnax gives you access to this quest. Got it. --Cdevine 17:55, 13 December 2011 (UTC)

Possible unmelting snow bug[edit]

Not sure if it's just my game with this problem, but there's no unmelting snow that I can find on the Throat of the World; in the end I manually added it to my inventory but the quest didn't advance and the arrow is still pointing to an area of empty ground. Something doesn't seem quite right... I guess it's not worth writing about if nobody else has experienced the problem, but figured I'd mention it on the off chance... --Vometia 23:19, 24 November 2011 (UTC)

I believe that typing "setstage MS12b 30" without the quotes into the console should advance the quest. Doesnt your map point you to the right place? From memory it was hidden up and around to the right from where you meet the chief of the Greybeards... 202.180.112.40 08:28, 1 December 2011 (UTC)
It is there but it just looks like a regular rock you climb on. Make sure you are at the same level as you are for talking to the dragon, get close to the mountain where the quest arrow is and click on the second or 3rd rock up. — Unsigned comment by 108.74.222.68 (talk) at 20:36 on 10 December 2011
I think I have the same issue as the original poster regarding the unmelted snow as it just doesn't appear to exist in the area the quest marker describes. I'll edit this post should this prove not to be the case. 90.200.225.84 04:26, 2 January 2012 (UTC)
Adding to the above: Here's how to find unmelting snow. From the word wall where you talk to Paarthurax, walk south and begin to climb. You should mostly climb the wide open, easy, plain snow. When you are about 6 meters up, the snowbank will begin to narrow as it climbs. Look for a single horizontal bar of exposed "rock" where the snowbank narrows to 2 meters wide. You should not have to jump at all or get on irregular rocks. 108.236.112.52 15:26, 15 September 2013 (GMT)

Failed Numbers job[edit]

I'd advise to finish the Numbers job (or any other Thieves Guild's quest related to this shop) before finishing this quest. I'm not sure if this quest is the cause, but I failed my numbers job because *SPOILER* "I killed the owner" of the shop ~ Dwarfmp 00:11, 8 December 2011 (UTC)

Dropping Briar Heart[edit]

On 360, I started the quest with a Briar Heart in my inventory. Dropping it and picking it up again completed the objective. 67.71.1.67 11:29, 25 December 2011 (UTC)

I can confirm this as well - I had TWO Briarhearts from acceptance to the completion of the other 2 ingredients. While I was in the shop, I dropped only ONE, picked it back up, and it updated quest. Proceeded normally. XBox. 04:27, 28 December 2011 (UTC) — Unsigned comment by 74.193.29.184 (talk)
This, unfortunately does not work, for me, on 360. I tried several different ways, and dropping and picking it back up had no effect.  :-( — Unsigned comment by 74.210.100.28 (talk) at 23:44 on 12 February 2012
RE: "If you already have the items in your inventory, you can drop the item and pick it up again to advance the quest."
PC version. I cant drop the Briarheart, the game says:
Quest items cannot be removed from inventory
I can eat the heat but that does nothing. 98.231.142.70 02:40, 18 March 2012 (UTC)
That's already noted in the Bugs section. Robin Hoodtalk 02:54, 18 March 2012 (UTC)
Oh. thanks Robin.
I also tried player.drop 0003ad61 2 in the command line, to drop the 2 briar hearts, and then picked it back up, and it did not work.
Are Xbox 360 players able to drop the Briar Heart and PC players are not? This seems unlikely.
This sentence:
"If you already have the items in your inventory, you can drop the item and pick it up again to advance the quest."
Conflicts with this sentence in the bugs section:
"They cannot be dropped, as they are now quest items."
So I am deleting "If you already have the items in your inventory, you can drop the item and pick it up again to advance the quest." 98.231.142.70 03:01, 18 March 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, I don't understand that discrepancy and I haven't done the quest yet myself, so I can't really comment. I agree that deleting the advice until we can clarify is probably the best bet. Robin Hoodtalk 03:46, 18 March 2012 (UTC)

() Hi guys, this is my first real post so bear with me on this. I was having the problem of not being able to drop the briar hearts or use them for the quest either and so was just stuck with them in my inventory, however I seemed to be able to eat all but one of them. This wasn't much help because I still couldn't do anything else with them or advance the quest. Now after ignoring it for a while I ended up doing the restoration ritual spell quest and after surviving the challenge I was able to drop, eat and use all of the briar hearts. The quest is still bugged and I can't seem to advance it but at least it got them out of my inventory. I am now planning to wait the 30 in-game days for the area indicated for the quest to reset and attempt to get the heart again and see if this somehow resolves the issue. Should it work I'll post my findings as a possible work-around to the bug but I am not holding out much hope. 82.19.183.179 15:59, 2 July 2012 (UTC)

Red eagle's fury glitch[edit]

When I go to the Briarheart marked for the quest, he is dual-wielding a pair of Red Eagle's Fury. When picked up, they are marked as quest items and as such, can't be dropped. — Unsigned comment by Spacemonkey 3022 (talkcontribs) at 13:15 on 26 December 2011

It might help to complete Legend of Red Eagle Quest, wherein you will be able to put down that Sword. However, you may choose to travel directly to Rebel's_Cairn(just a bit southeast of sundered towers) in order to put down your sword. Not sure 'though if that will add you the Dungeon related Quest to your log. Quimoniz 14:39, 26 December 2011 (UTC)
The quest is completed already and Red Eagle's Bane is in a container at a house I own. — Unsigned comment by Spacemonkey 3022 (talkcontribs) at 15:22 on 26 December 2011
Go to Rebels Cairn all you have to do is take the new Red Eagles Furies, install them in the pedestal then remove the non-quest related Red Eagles Bane which can then be disposed of as you see fit. on PS3 Piscator 01:41, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

Useless[edit]

It doesn't sound bad, true, but frankly by the point in the game you get to Throat of the World, the potions available are rather lackluster. The one handed boost is probably the most impressive. Pity; the buildup on the legend made me hopeful for something a little more...unique. Daedalus Echelon 00:07, 29 December 2011 (UTC)

I totally agree. Chose the one-handed myself. Tockenen 12:21, 31 December 2011 (UTC)
I generally choose the healing option. 100 free hit points once a day is mildly useful. Frankly the most useful part of this quest is that it's the Quintus friendship quest; after you've completed it, you can use The White Phial as a respawning source of some fairly rare alchemy ingredients and 3 iron ingots. --Morrolan (talk) 15:19, 11 July 2013 (GMT)

I can't start this quest??[edit]

(It doesn't look like this bug has been reported, so I'm going to report it here)

So I just realized that I did the first quest ages ago when I first went into windhelm. Now i'm much further into the game and I have still yet to get a letter from a courier about this quest. I've already gotten to the far enough into the main quest where i just finished alduin's bane quest and still nothing.

I have the same problem. If anyone finds a solution, please do include it on this talk page. Or perhaps Bethesda admins should know about this situation. (AT THE RISK OF ADDING NONSENSE) 70.114.63.215 16:24, 10 January 2012 (UTC)

Same here. I returned the phial a long time ago and have had full access to the Throat of the World for a long time as well (it's probably been about one real-time month). I've been contacted by couriers several times since acquiring access to the Throat of the World, but never have they notified me about starting the quest to repair the phial.--72.229.1.121 07:06, 12 January 2012 (UTC)
I'm peeking inside scripts for i have this issue too... i've noticed that looking at quest state through console (command sqv <quest ID>), the previous MS12 (The White Phial) has got to completion stage 100, but it's still in state "Running" instead of "Stopped". I think it could be the cause of this quest not starting (but MS12b is a "Shadow Quest" attached to MS12, not a standalone quest, so maybe i'm totally wrong) 94.39.220.40 20:35, 8 February 2012 (UTC)
I noticed that (at least on the PS3) the last patch seems to have stopped the Forsworn from respawning at certain places, including Sundered Towers, where I'm sent to acquire the Briar-Heart. I killed them earlier to fulfill the Red Eagle quest, and I think the fact that the Forsworn won't respawn is why the courier hasn't appeared for me. Lobsel Vith 21:29, 27 May 2012 (UTC)

() So, did anyone with this problem find out how to make this quest start? Even with all the patches and waiting a year after the pre-requisites, it's the only non-random quest I couldn't get because the courrier never appeared. — Unsigned comment by 189.24.241.148 (talk) at 12:46 on 14 July 2012

Did you complete the quest The Throat of the World? This is required to start Repairing the Phial. --XyzzyTalk 19:52, 14 July 2012 (UTC)
As I mentioned, I did all the other quests (all the main, mages, companions, thieves, dark brotherhood, imperial, daedric, bards and 32 side quests, hundreds misc, also found 347 places with level 81). There's no way this quest will start. — Unsigned comment by 189.106.224.196 (talk) on f 22:24, 14 July 2012
I don't see where you already mentioned this. If you will sign your posts, this kind of confusion can be avoided. If you are playing PC version, you could try using console commands to reset or setstage the quest. If not, somebody with the appropriate platform experience would be better suited to helping you than me. --XyzzyTalk 23:01, 14 July 2012 (UTC)

() Any resolution or advice for this bug? Like several others, I completed The White Phial a long time ago, and have since completed basically every other quest in the game, including the 3 DLC packs. I've never been approached by any courier with a message from Quintus that should begin this quest. When I visit the shop and try to talk to Nerelius, I get the message box that he's dying. Quintus only offers the usual shopkeeper dialog options. At this point I'm Level 92, so I don't need the Phial, but I'm out to complete the game as much as possible. I'm playing v1.9.32.0.8 on a PC, and when I run sqv MS12, it shows Stage=100 and Status=Running. The stats for MS12B (this one) shows Stage=0 and Status=Stopped. I changed the wiki (it said +100 health = wrong)[edit]

I changed the wiki to be correct. The wiki said "+100 health" which I thought "Wow, I'll get 100 Fortify Health" but that wasn't the case. It actually restores your health 100, so I changed that. Just wanted you to now ;-) Tockenen 12:19, 31 December 2011 (UTC)

Quest started early without my knowing...[edit]

I completed The White Phial quest a good while ago, and after reading about Repairing the Phial I was waiting for a courier to bring me a letter. It never happened, despite my waiting in Solitude and Whiterun, the only two places a courier has ever approached me. As I store all my alchemy ingredients in a satchel, I noticed at one point that I couldn't remove Briar Heart; it was flagged as a quest item. A while later, I was dumping books from my inventory, and I found the letter from Quintus, even though no courier had delivered it. Is it possible that the letter activated the Briar Heart as a quest item? I read the letter then (after Briar Heart become a QI) and was directed to speak to Quintus. Now I can't complete the quest, because the Briar Heart is flagged as the only acceptable QI, but neither the system nor Quintus will acknowledge that I have all the required ingredients. :( I really don't want to reload a save from that far back! — Unsigned comment by 98.219.156.224 (talk) at 05:10 on 22 January 2012‎

Disappearing Phials[edit]

After completing the quest, I exploited talking to Quintus to get two phials, one that restored health and one that improved one-handed. I drank the one-handed one then duplicated the empty phial and put one on display in my house. The empty one on display refilled so I picked it up and left the other empty one. Then, after a while, the on on display vanished completely, so I left the restore health phial. On my adventures, I drank my fortify one-handed phial and later realized that it didn't add an empty one to my inventory. Then, I returned to my house to find that my last phial on display had vanished as well. Has anyone else had problems with disappearing phials? I know it may just be because I duplicated it so many times XD but it would be good for other players to know if they can place the phial on display. --75.19.156.190 01:56, 9 February 2012 (UTC)

Bug Removed[edit]

Why someone has removed "Sometime courier fails to shown up..." bug line? It has never shown up for me, even with Throat of the world and White phial quests both done succesfully. Is there a fix for it? — Unsigned comment by 94.34.250.199 (talk) at 22:58 on 12 March 2012

Might seem random, but I had this issue, and I found the courier. He was at Sarethi's Farm, watching the fight between a bugged Rift Guard and an Imperial Soldier (I sided with the Imperials, and had finished the questline). I talked to him fine, and got the letter, and finished the White Phial. I started the quest, found all three questitems, returned to the shop and even could talk to the assistant. He then repairs the phial and hurries to his dying master, showing it to him. But then - no further dialogue. However the assistant DOES automatically talk to me but only with his standard shopkeepers dialogue options. He simply opens the barter menu and says his usual phrases. No thank you for completing the quest, no rewards at all. I'm currently experiencing the bug where returning to Quintus Navale shows the dialog option about having all of the items to repair the Phial, he then goes about repairing the Phial and watching his master die, though I cannot talk to him - permanently. It says "This person is busy" from the time I give him the ingredients to the time when he's standing over his dead master, and that message never goes away. The wiki page states, "Can be solved using the console to set quest stage.", but that's absolutly not true for me, unless I'm just doing it wrong. I've had multiple attempts at advancing the quest to stage 100 via "setstage MS12b 100", but I just get a message that the quest is completed. I get no reward, no phial, and it still says "This person is busy" on Quintus Navale - permanently. I've tried exiting and entering the building at several different spots during the animation of him repairing the Phial and talking to his master. I've tried staying downstairs for a while or instead following him upstairs immediately. Nothing works. Any ideas of how to get "This person is busy" to go away so that I can complete this majorly-buggy quest? Thanks. 72.229.1.121 09:13, 29 June 2012 (UTC)

I just ran into similar problems with the wedding ceremony and joining the Thieves guild, and then realized that it may be due to the Imp's Complex Needs mod, which changes the global timescale. If so, what a shame that some quests don't scale properly. I'll try continuing this quest to the point that Quintus won't talk to me, and then I'll return in one in-game day to see if that helps. 72.229.1.121 21:47, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
The same thing is now happening for the Stormcloak quest to take over Solitude - after killing the commander Ulfric is "busy" permanently and I can't continue the quest. It's now also happening for Azura's star. When I give the star to the elf so he can repair it, it shows a short animation and he says "it needs more souls", or something like that, then he is busy permanently like the others. I tried disabling all of my mods (expect the official HD texture pack) and then reloaded from an earlier save, just outside of the tavern in which the elf repairs the star, yet this didn't fix the problem - the elf still goes to "this person is busy". When I get a chance I'll try doing the same thing to repair the White Phial, though I'm not optimistic that it'll work. The fact that disabling all of my mods didn't help with the star quest is really confusing - is Skyrim really just that buggy? 72.229.1.121 21:08, 20 July 2012 (UTC)
Are you sure you have the last patch installed? Those issues got fixed long ago 82.243.194.53 21:27, 21 July 2012 (UTC)
I'm running version 1.6.89.0.6 according to the Esc screen. I also had the 1.6 Beta as soon as it was available. I think I even started my current character during the 1.6 Beta, though it may have been 1.5 but I'm pretty sure it wasn't before that. Anyway, I always keep the game patched automatically. Thanks for your reply, though I realize that this talk page is not the proper place to ask for support on this issue. I'm about to post a question on the official site: forums.bethsoft.com. If I get any new info I'll update this talk page. 72.229.1.121 23:07, 21 July 2012 (UTC)

Nurelion suddenly standing up and animating the a dying actor?[edit]

You know like a follower almost dying, on the knees animation.

He was doing that while talking to Quintus about the Phial. I thought there were more dialogue options about the quest but just after Nurelion says "Marvelous", he does the animation and the quest doesn't finish. Quintus will automatically face to you as if it was a normal quest dialougue but there is nothing related to the quest at all. Just normal buying selling stuff and some other chatter.

Since he took my items anyway, (after the dialogues) what I did was to type this in setobjectivecompleted ms12b 60 1 basically marking the "return to quintus" objective completed. After that I typed in setstage ms12b 100 to finish the quest. AFter that I added the white phial syntax I wanted ( I chose the heal effect ) to officially end the quest.

The proof of the proper end is by talking to quintus once more and having the dialogue about Nurelion's recent death. He's saying something about he could spent his lifetime over his teacher's notes. — Unsigned comment by 67.180.64.9 (talk) at 05:05 on 7 May 2013

ALTERNATE METHOD: This happens because Nurelion is set to essential. You can avoid this happening by setting him non-essential before Quintus shows him the phial. Open the console and type in "SetEssential 14148 0", and everything should move on as it should. — Unsigned comment by 221.41.78.139 (talk) at 06:08 on 16 June 2013
ADD- Sometimes "setessential" command doesn't work, fix it using Commmand: "SetEssential 14148 1" and then "SetEssential 14148 0". It will turn him Essential and then turn him to non-essential.

having the same problem on the ps4 any way one no a way to fix it

White Phial Disappearing[edit]

After having completed the quest I found The White Phial in my inventory. Once I used it it should be removed from the Potion section and found in the Misc section being empty. But the White Phial disappears from my inventory completely and after waited more then 24 ingame hours the Phial didnt turn up full again. I read something about using SkyUI and having this bug. Is there any known fix? As I cant seem to find it. — Unsigned comment by 86.81.224.7 (talk) at 07:11 on 9 June 2014 (GMT)

I've had similar problems with the phial not refilling itself using only the unofficial patches, but the issue doesn't seem to be fixed as of version 2.04a. ThuumofReason (talk) 12:40, 9 June 2014 (GMT)

Briar Heart Bug Work Around[edit]

I had the bug where if you have a Briar Heart in your inventory when the quest starts, when you turn in the ingredients every Briar Heart you pick up after will be marked a quest item. I'm on the PS4 Special Edition so console commands are out. I dropped the Briar Heart and picked it up making it a quest item. I went to Solthsheim and found the apothecary in Tel Mithryn. I did the Soaked Taproot quest for her left and saved. I went back in and got her request for an ingredient. I reloaded my save and kept going back I until she asked for a Briar Heart. I gave her the one I had which was successfully removed. I then went to my alchemy tower in one of my homes where I was able to pick up and subsequently drop a Briar Heart.

Briar Heart Bug Absent on Switch?[edit]

Just now, on the Switch version, I got the note that starts the quest, absentmindedly picked up a Briar Heart, then went to Quintus. As soon as he gave me the objective to gather the materials, the Briar Heart objective was completed. When I finished the quest, I immediately bought two Briar Hearts from him and dropped them without a problem. Either I'm just very lucky, or this glitch doesn't occur on the Switch version.
