[edit] How to get there

It would be great if Wiki-ers would include a "how to get there" for inaccessible locations such as this shrine. I have been completely around the mountain twice, and Clairvoyance is just nuts (i.e. seems to work, but following it eventually returns "no direct path found") so no help. — Unsigned comment by 99.118.57.232 (talk) at 07:23 on 11 January 2012

Go to Dawnstar and just south of it (On your map) is a giant camp called Red Road Pass (just south of it is Hall of the vigilant where you can steal a daedric heart.) once your at Red Road Pass you can kill the giants or sneak past. Then you want to go south-west (On your map) until you see frostmere crypt (You will see a woman kill some bandits and tell you about how she got blamed for the missing sword). Again just south-west (On your map) of that you will see The Lord Stone then just keep climbing until you reach there.
Warning
There is a dragon burial site near the shrine you may have to kill it.
It gives you a new shout Frost Breath. — Unsigned comment by 80.5.58.155 (talk) at 02:36 on 15 January 2012

[edit] Low-Ranked Dremora

Do they respawn or not? The information in the general section and the note contradict each other. Reys 20:18, 17 January 2012 (UTC)

Decided to test this out. After waiting week and reentering, the Dremora remained dead. It should be noted that some treasures reappeared, notably new items in the large chest and a few ingots reappeared. Reys 20:33, 17 January 2012 (UTC)
They do respawn ... or atleast they should. For whatever reason somtimes they might not. They respawn on all but one of my chars. No matter how long I wait on that one they dont come back. Not sure what causes this tho, they respawn every 7 days for my other chars. — Kimi the Elf (talk | contribs) 20:45, 17 January 2012 (UTC)
Do you think it could possibly be the race of the character? What is your race for the one where they don't respawn? Mine is an Argonian. Reys 22:51, 17 January 2012 (UTC)
I dont see why it would be race related but my character that doesnt have them respawn is a Wood Elf. — Kimi the Elf (talk | contribs) 18:56, 18 January 2012 (UTC)
Just a possible theory if it was only happening with one character. I'm clue-less then. Reys 20:49, 18 January 2012 (UTC)

Additional confirmation: Took 7 or more days, but I had to wait outside of the hold. 16:38, 31 January 2012 (UTC)

When they do respawn, does their level change; i.e. i was level 35 when i first time i cleared this area and it had dremora kynreeve, if i come back a few levels after, are they still kynreeve? i'm asking because i want to dead thrall a dremora but they say that valkynaz is too strong so i'm planning on coming back to this area just for that. — Unsigned comment by 178.153.93.103 (talk) at 07:53 on 23 March 2012

Yes, when they respawn, their level should change as yours does, give or take. Once they've spawned, though, I believe they stay the same level until the area is cleared. I'm not 100% certain of that, though. Robin Hoodtalk 07:42, 19 April 2012 (UTC)

[edit] BY JOVE...I think I may have solved the puzzle...

Okay, so I too experienced the issue where the Dremora do not respawn, but the loot does. I figured there was some kind of permanent bug from a patch or something, and just gave up after testing about every possible variation of waiting reloading, blah blah.

I then started my game over from an earlier level, and I noticed that, after I redid the quest (Pieces of the Past), the Dremora were respawning. Weird, right?

I thought about whether or not I had done anything differently...and...yes, I did:

The second time I played through with my character, I got mouthy with Mehrunes (I just went along with everything the first time). When he says to kill Silus, I chose the option to argue; after I killed Silus, and he says wreak havoc on Tamriel or whatever, I chose the option to say that I'll do whatever I want with it.

What's more, I started an entirely new game, this time with a Nord character (the old game was with an Imperial, and FWIW, both female), and I just tested my little theory re the bug. Hell, I even did it with a follower along with me (while I killed Silus and all of that), and voila! Dremora are respawning.

I hope that I've seriously solved this little issue for more people than just myself.

Please, if anyone tests this out, do post something about how it goes. --76.121.163.168 07:42, 28 March 2012 (UTC)

I just did the quest, but I'll save the autosave from right outside of the museum prior to heading to the shrine. I'll try waiting the suggested 10 days for everything to respawn on my save after being courteous to Dagon and if the dremora fail to appear then I'll load the other save and be mouthy this time and see what happens. For background, Lydia and Barbas the annoying are my followers and nothing will be different except for my discussions choices with Dagon. I have another theory, though. Did you guys by chance test the Razor on the Dremora in the shrine with some saves, but not others? — Unsigned comment by 75.249.25.27 (talk) at 04:00 on 25 May 2012
Edit: I just finished waiting 10 days and then going in on the Mr. Courteous save. All FOUR Dremora respawned, complete with fire-enchanted iron weapons much like the first time they appeared. Everything respawned inside too; so your theory appears busted. The only guaranteed way to get proper respawns would seem to be finding the point where the bug appears and saving prior to that and hoping it doesn't happen. I'll try waiting 10 more days later and see if the same thing happens. The only things that weren't there that I was hoping for were some more Ebony armor pieces, but I am at level 33, so they probably only appear sporadically. — Unsigned comment by 75.249.25.27 (talk) at 04:49 on 25 May 2012
Well first off, thanks for the info and sorry for the late reply (I kinda figured no one was concerned about that bug, though it annoyed the Hell outta me, and I forgot about it after a week or two).

Anyway, what I posted was pretty self-explanatory, and most players were having the Dremora respawn or not respawn no matter what they did, which is why I thought there was some significance to how you answer Dagon's questions when that was all I did different to end my losing streak (which never came back, either).

Yeah I doubt that just getting mouthy with MD is what makes the difference too, but maybe it does if you have/had that bug (?). As for my "theory" being "busted" (BTW, I believe you meant "hypothesis"...or at least you should have...they do have different meanings), I don't see how you proved anything: the respawning Dremora had worked fine for you before and it kept on working fine for you after you did something different. That isn't exactly earth-shattering.

While on the topic, I found another weird variable (among others): if one of the Dremora falls off the ledge when he dies, then only one respawns outside the next time you show up.

It could be anything number of things that causes them to not respawn or whatever, I was sharing info that I thought might help some people that were pulling their hair out.

FYI, I never, ever had a problem with the goodies respawning (neither did most people), just the Dremoras.

Oh one more thing, I hardly ever use Mehrune's Razor, so I never tested it inside or outside of the Temple. I don't know why I never use it, really, but IMO Vladr's Lucky Dagger is about 50x better 95% of the time.

[edit] What is the writing?

not the topic, it is necessary not found((

- What is written on the wristband (between the elbow and the shoulder), heavy armor dragon?? (dragon font)

- What is written on the altar of Dagon ? (daedrik font) http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Shrine_of_Mehrunes_Dagon — Unsigned comment by 5.166.92.81 (talk) at 05:50 on 24 January 2013

[edit] Area respawing issue

I've periodically gone back to the Shrine 9 times giving it 10 days or more between visits, always with the same character. The Dremora respawned 7 times. Once without weapons, using their fists. The cave interior completely respawned 5 times, partially respawned 3. The respawn is triggered by character presence. I used TCL to descend straight down on the area and the Dremora spawn at about 20 feet away. So this is not entirely a normal respawn as say, bandit chiefs, and is subject to (most likely) multiple scripts with variables triggering things. I'm assuming the scripts are the issue as they don't always check things thoroughly. — Unsigned comment by Sniffles (talkcontribs) at 06:19 on 12 April 2013

Thank you for the interesting solid input on this issue. Who knows if this will ever be fully figured out, but having an idea of where the problem most likely lies is good. So is knowing that this location may eventually respawn even if it doesn't the first time you go back after waiting.--Playerseekingbugs (talk) 18:40, 13 April 2013 (GMT)
