What is the Id for this quest? — Unsigned comment by Necrosin (talk • contribs) at 01:34 on 20 November 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Refusing Yamarz
What happens if you refuse to fight the giant for Yamaraz? I chose the other option and forgot to make a save to check the alternate. — Unsigned comment by Bwross (talk • contribs) at 15:56 on 20 November 2011 (UTC)
- He dies against the giant in one hit. If you tell him to do it himself, and the giant dies while Yamarz is still alive, he defaults to the "I have to kill you so no one will find out" scenario. I even told him to fight the giant then opened up the console and put in 223f7.kill 3bc27" (or this specific giant gets killed by Chief Yamarz), and he still acted as if I had killed the giant for him. There seems to be no way to have the chief survive or not betray you.69.214.46.27 20:40, 20 November 2011 (UTC)
[edit] The Orcs Attack Me
I don't know why but every time I drop off the daedra heart and troll fat the orcs attack me when I follow Atub. Babytoke 00:25, 28 November 2011 (UTC)
- I'm not positive, but it may be because you aren't considered blood-kin among them, causing them to attack you when you attempt to enter the settlement (which may be a bug when regarding this quest). I'd try doing the miscellaneous quest at Dushnikh Yal, then come back and hand in the ingredients again. If you've already completed that, then it's a bug and I'm not sure what to do. Sorry. --Dragon1300 00:32, 3 December 2011 (UTC)
- Not sure if its related but when I did the quests the orcs decided to kill one of the orcs? are they suppose to randomly kill each other? — Unsigned comment by 80.192.230.46 (talk) at 10:57 on 9 December 2011 (UTC)
[edit] Bugs
So I'm on 360 and Malacath's dialogue at Giant's Grove seems to be bugged. If I kill both the Giant and Yamarz Malacath says the Giants killed Yamarz and I killed the Giant, the reverse if I let Yamarz get killed by the Giant first. — Unsigned comment by 71.198.52.172 (talk) at 00:12 on 17 December 2011 (UTC)
- Referring to Shasowmere being dead after the quest: I also found my horse lying dead, but I found a damaged Frostbite Spider near it. Just to mention. — Unsigned comment by 109.125.122.188 (talk) at 08:09 on 21 December 2011 (UTC)

- I am on the PS3 and after I killed the second giant, Yarmaz attacked Lydia (the housecarl) and then me. Very irritating. Went outside and back in - Yamarz is nowhere to be seen! — Unsigned comment by 86.29.225.221 (talk) at 00:15 on 16 February 2012 (UTC)

- Giants will continue to attack the village. If you come back later you may find another one attacking. Doesn't matter if you take Volendrung or not. --Bwross 04:25, 3 January 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Badly bugged
Well i arrived at the stronghold, I was an orc. The gates were locked and there was no one there, no giant no nothing. I used the alternate entrance, and everyone was in the longhouse. I spoke to the shaman and she said they would never forget what I've done for them, but I have done nothing, im on 360 any ideas Emzi43 12:43, 10 March 2012 (UTC)
- Do you meet the level requirements? The gate is locked and the camp is empty until you reach level 9 //MrL 23:03, 25 March 2012 (UTC)

- The giant attack only triggers after you've been given the main quest to go to High Hrothgar for the first time. If you use a mod that delays the main storyline you will have to activate the main quest and reach that point. If you go before that you will find no one outside. If force your way inside the village, all the NPCs will be inside the longhouse and getting inside will make them hostile(or after you get out) thus making the quest unobtainable. My advice is not to enter the village before either the giant attacks or you find the corpses outside. 24.139.111.144 18:57, 22 October 2012 (GMT)

[edit] Orcs kill Yamarz
I left Yamarz outside of the cave and went in and cleared it (and killed the giant). When I went back to the camp Yamarz wasn't there. I waited an hour and when he got back to the camp the orcs began attacking him. Is this a bug or does Yamarz's faction change after you kill the giant? BrenMan 94 05:31, 10 April 2012 (UTC)
[edit] Moved
Spoken to orcs outside gate. They had killed giant already. Didnt fint Atub. Since then all arcs located inside main building and unable to find Atub. Tried some relevant advice above with no change. Killed subsiquent giants outside gate but no change. No quest entry in quest logs. - aditional - I decided to get the ingredients anyway. Upon returning a dragon attacked and Atub alone was present and helped me fight the dragon. Speaking to her after killing the dragon proceded the quest as expected. No idea if this was a coincidence. — Unsigned comment by 139.168.206.92 (talk) at 18:55 on 22 May 2012

[edit] Ugor is dead on arrival and I can't find atub
So I killed the giant attacking largashbur, then found ugor's body...nobody in the courtyard and although there were four or five people in the longhouse, atub is nowhere to be found...help! — Unsigned comment by 2.120.213.75 (talk) at 12:55 on 24 May 2012
- Apparently, Ugor dying is quite a common occurrence, but it shouldn't affect how the quest progresses, as Atub will still speak to you normally. If she isn't around, I'd recommend either fast travelling away and then returning, or re-loading your last save before Urog is killed. Kitkat •Talk•Contrib•E-mail 13:19, 24 May 2012 (UTC)
[edit] A slightly different bug to what other people appear to be having.
After making our way through the cave and exiting to the Grove, Yamarz disappears and cannot be found (and so never asks me to kill the giant myself); the quest arrow locates him somewhere to the east (although it appears to be south on the world map) and player.moveto puts me in an endless gray space, like high school. I can kill the giant myself, take the hammer, and get given the goal to return to the stronghold - but the "Protect Yamarz" goal is still active in the journal. It appears that I can end the quest this way, with the orcs acting as though the giants killed him, so I guess all I'm missing is the satisfaction of seeing him die & whatever loot is on his body...
Reloading didn't stop this from happening, and neither did exiting to the Grove before or after he did. 124.168.71.29 00:09, 1 June 2012 (UTC)
- also, now I think of it - Atub was not actually at the stronghold when I returned with the ingredients prior to this part of the mission, but the arrow showed her SE near the old tower where you find Illia - the quest marker seemed to indicate she was inside, so I entered, cleared the tower and emerged at the top, only to find that she'd moved back to the stronghold. Returning to the stronghold put me at the point where I had to watch the ritual, although I never gave her the ingredients (they vanished from my inventory anyway).
- basically this quest is so broken I am amazed it functions at all, for anyone... 124.168.71.29 07:17, 1 June 2012 (UTC)
[edit] Help?
ok so I was being a jerk and killed all the orcs befor I knew they had quest.. Will they ever return? --24.217.162.56 05:55, 23 September 2012 (UTC)
- It appears that the chief, Yamarz, is essential (unkillable), but Atub is not, and she also will never respawn. Therefore, I think the quest cannot be completed if you killed Atub. --Xyzzy Talk 15:33, 23 September 2012 (GMT)
[edit] Angry goats - moved from article
There may be two goats that appear as hostile on your compass at the beginning of this quest. Although they do not attack, you will remain "in combat" until you kill them or move a sufficient distance away. It is possible that they are allied with the giant assaulting Largashbur.
I am moving this "bug" to the talk page because it seems highly unlikely that the game would mistakenly spawn two hostile goats at the start of this quest. What is much more likely is that a randomly encountered spriggan had turned two commonly encountered goats hostile. I have experienced the exact same thing just east of Riften. Two hunters killed the spriggan, but the hostile goats lingered in the area. They never attacked me, but showed on my radar as nearby enemies until I hunted them down. I have also seen similar incidents elsewhere around Skyrim where I encountered random normally-passive animals that showed as hostile. Usually they have the green glow that indicates spriggan influence, but it can be subtle sometimes. --Xyzzy Talk 17:53, 23 September 2012 (GMT)
- I have observed these (at least) two goats a couple of times when fighting an attacking giant outside Largashbur. They never participated in the fighting. Once I tried to fight them, but they ran away as soon as I approached them, so after running like a fool around the forest a bit I gave up and did not bother. I never came close enough to be sure if there would have been any subtle green glow to them. They remained showing as nearby enemies as long as they were close enough. As there seem to be more than one having observed this, and one of them (me) have twice, I believe there might be reason to investigate a bit further before the bug is dismissed finally.
- Can a giant activate a spell similar to the spriggans? —MortenOSlash (talk) 19:16, 23 September 2012 (GMT)
-
- Using the CSList I can see both giants and goats are part of the Creature Faction (0x00000013). Would that give the goats an incentive to side with the giant in a conflict, though they are to afraid of the player to actually join the fight? —MortenOSlash (talk) 17:40, 24 September 2012 (GMT)
- Hmmm. If you look at the Assistance stat for EncGoatWild, it says that the goat will help allies. Having the two creatures in the same faction is done mainly to prevent them from attacking each other. I'm not sure if that would make the goat and giant allies, though. I've never had a goat come to the rescue of a giant before (just thinking about that makes me chuckle), but it's not outside of the realm of possibilities. I still think that a nearby spriggan is the most likely cause of this.

- I checked this out once, there was a group of three goats far to the left of the gate (is that North? can't remember). The three goats were hostile, but kept running away. I used all forms of detect life and they were the only living creatures, and I thoroughly searched the area where they had been and no spriggan. - Not a bug as such, not for this particular quest, anyway, but maybe a note? And maybe an entry under glitches, as it seems to be a general unintended consequence, only rare, as goats and giants rarely meet other places? —MortenOSlash (talk) 21:15, 24 September 2012 (GMT)

(←) How about a note on the Animals page? --Xyzzy Talk 02:29, 25 September 2012 (GMT)
- Yes. That might be an even better place, as it is not a glitch in itself, rather a possibly unintended side effect of the factions assigned for goats. —MortenOSlash (talk) 19:18, 15 October 2012 (GMT)

- So giants have the Call of the Wild ability too? —MortenOSlash (talk) 05:17, 16 October 2012 (GMT)
- No they do not. I am unable to find any data on CSList that would indicate that goats would turn hostile due to a hostile giant in the area, unless you count the theoretical link that we discussed above, and that would require some sort of verification before being added to the article. Probably the best way to test this is to attack a giant, then use console commands to create a goat, or lead the angry giant to an area with some naturally-occuring goats. --Xyzzy Talk 13:54, 16 October 2012 (GMT)

(←) I finally got around to testing this. I traveled to Talking Stone camp, and used the console command player.placeatme 2ebe2 10 to spawn 10 wild goats before and after pissing off the giant. None of the unnaturally-spawned goats turned hostile to me, and the giant started attacking the goats! There appears to be no inherit alliance between giants and goats. BTW, there is something especially awe-inspring in seeing a giant send a goat disappearing into the distance with a swing of his club. Tiger Woods, eat your heart out! --Xyzzy Talk 02:28, 23 October 2012 (GMT)

I'm not sure that this quest is prompted by dialogue from Riften guards, as described on the page. I have not been able to get any relevant conversation from a Riften guard, and it is not mentioned on the guard dialogue page.
