Tempering[edit]

Actually, as I tested recently, tempering the Pale Blade requires one steel ingot and the Arcane Blacksmith perk, with the benefits of tempering being doubled by the Dwarven Smithing perk, notBold text Steel Smithing perk. — Unsigned comment by 1.195.106.143 (talk) at 16:32 on 3 May 2014

Hmmm, I think the poster might be onto something. According the the cslist, the first three variants have the WeapMaterialDraugr keyword, which requires a steel ingot and the steel smithing perk. However, the two highest level variants have the WeapMaterialDraugrHoned keyword, which should require the Dwarven Smithing perk. Still needs to be tested ingame, but this might have a kernel of truth in it. --AN|L (talk) 17:23, 3 May 2014 (GMT)

Keeping the Blade[edit]

If you want to keep the Pale Blade, make sure not to accidentally activate the pedestal after killing the Pale Lady! If you do, the Blade will become stuck on the pedestal, as if still sealing in the (now dead) Pale Lady. Kellynne (talk) 14:55, 21 July 2014 (GMT)

If you've found a bug with the Blade, feel free to add it to the article. You don't need to bring it to the talk page for discussion first. Zul se onikaanLaan tinvaak 15:01, 21 July 2014 (GMT)
Please feel free to move it. I just tried and am having trouble. Even better, teach me how to move it myself. Kellynne (talk) 15:04, 23 July 2014 (GMT)
I would appreciate it if someone would teach me how to add the above bug to the correct article.Kellynne (talk) 02:38, 15 January 2015 (GMT)

Enhancing "The Pale Blade."[edit]

I do not think these things have been mentioned about "The Pale Blade on it's page, but I feel that there are perks that should definitely be mentioned, as well as items that give it a bigger boost. These Are:

Perks

Augmented Frost 1/2 and 2/2: Boosts Frost and Stamina Damage by 25%-50%.

Kindred Mage: Boosts the "Fear Enchantment" against Humans.

Animage: Boosts the "Fear Enchantment" against Animals.

Master of the Mind: Makes the "Fear Enchantment" affect everything.

Necromage: Boosts the Frost and Stamina damage and "Fear Enchantment" further against Undead.

Unique Item from Dragonborn DLC

Dukaan: 25% Bonus to Frost and Stamina Damage.

Just thought this input would help the UESP more.--24.215.91.139 22:26, 26 December 2014 (GMT)

Query[edit]

There seems to be some mistake in this line on the page:

"The stamina damage effect on this weapon is actually the standard "half the frost damage", but the descriptions incorrectly list it as double."

Half? Unless the section on Frost Damage is incorrect, Stamina damage from frost weapons is in fact equal to the Frost damage dealt to health, such as 30 to Health and Stamina, not 30 to Health and 15 to Stamina. Shock weapons operate that way (30 Shock damage to Health, 15 to Magicka), but not Frost.

If someone would confirm this and correct the page assuming I'm correct, that'd be great. — Unsigned comment by 118.208.246.13 (talk) at 14:03 on 5 May 2015 (GMT)

Just a typo, the USKP confirms it with it's fix notes. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 15:26, 11 June 2015 (UTC)

Level 27+ version error[edit]

I received the quest and entered the crypt at level 28 and received a level 12-18 blade in the end, with stats as follows: Targets take 15 points of frost damage and 30 points of Stamina damage. Weaker creatures and people flee for 30 seconds.

Shouldn't I have gotten the level 27+ version with: Targets take 25 points of frost damage and 50 points of Stamina damage. Weaker creatures and people flee for 30 seconds

Also weight and damage seem to be those take go with a level 12-18 Pale Blade. — Unsigned comment by 79.16.34.39 (talk) at 21:13 on 4 May 2017 (UTC)

No, it's random. At level 40, I got the 19-26 blade. As your levels increase, the chances of getting better equipment go up, but there's always a chance you can find crappy gear as well. Keeps life fair. -- Emma Emma of Falkreath (talk) 19:44, 4 May 2018 (UTC)
I tested it, it seems the blade level is determined either when you approach the tomb, or when you start the quest. Saving before entering either the Depths or the upper level of the crypt does not appear to allow the version of the weapon to change. Given that apparently it's a random table on top of that, if you want the Lv27 version, best to stay away from the whole vicinity until you reach level 27, then save someplace a fair distance away like Dawnstar, then run the quest and check that you got the right one. Stat table is wrong[edit]

I checked it yesterday and the stat table is wrong. At level 28 I obtained what is listed as the level 12-18 sword. — Unsigned comment by 79.50.47.88 (talk) at 12:54 on 5 May 2017

The stat table is 100% correct, it is the implementation of the leveled list that is questionable. There is a standard level system and a level-random system, whereby at any level you have a chance of the listed versions available to you. For example at level 25 you have an equal chance of one of the first four, but at level 27 you have an equal chance of one of the five. I do not know if this is the case here, or if one of many other factors played a part, including entering the cell around the crypt, which can sometimes be the trigger, or activating the fight but being unaware of it. Your mention that you found no high-level enemies suggests that you got close enough to silently trigger something along those lines without visibly beginning the quest.
