Location[edit]

There is a level 65 Breton just North East of Stendarr's Reach. He rides a horse and is dressed in Dragon Plate. He seems to pace between the open fields and the Marrowind/Skryrim border.

Purpose?[edit]

Do these guys have a purpose? I have seem them several times as human/vampire/werewolf and they always say the same things. Even tho they say they hunt Daedra/Vampires/Werewolves/Witches they seem uninterested in me even as. They only reaction I have had was when I turned into beast form, but every one attacks when I do that anyway so it didn't seem anything special. Kimi the Elf 18:32, 26 December 2011 (UTC)

I think that it is the game's engine which blocks them from seeing you as a vampire/werewolf if you are one. By logic, they should attack you. Can be a bug. Regarding their purpose, they wander around Skyrim and can be met in random places while heading somewhere or fighting Daedra/Vampires/Werewolves/Witches/Necromancers etc. Their main purpose is to make sure that you won't feel lonely out there in the wilderness...
I found two of them after having cleared a cave of vampires. Do not know if it was chance but I had just contracted vampirism and they cured me. I found their hall and thought they would want me to work for them... but no :(

Somehow this screams DLC. I mean these guys got two locations, a named leader and are almost everywhere on the roads but have nothing but three lines of generic dialogue? --Killfetzer 15:25, 11 January 2012 (UTC)
I completely agree about this group "screaming" DLC, this and the dwarven ruin with the glowing orange orb. Cant believe they repeated new vegas with dlc wait times though >.> — Unsigned comment by 71.123.205.9 (talk) on 10 April 2012
That can only be good though. I HATE day 1 dlc or something churned out in a month. If I saw a vigilance dlc even a month or 2 later it would be obvious it was intended to be in game, got cut to meet a deadline a small amount of wrap up and sold to me instead of patched in a bit that was intended to be in game all along. Day 1 dlc just should have been on disk already period.
But with a delay like this is great. This way they're taking time to actually write dlc that adds new things to the game. nothing was chopped that shouldn't have been(even if it were snipped it obviously was justified by the time it takes to release, and its most likely something completely new instead)
I do hope they expand the vigil in one of them tho. — Unsigned comment by 24.38.223.147 (talk) at 18:28 on 19 April 2012

Quest Lines?[edit]

I'm really disappointed about these guys. I thought for sure they would have some major quest line tied to them, but so far, absolutely nothing from what I can tell. Their is that one guy in Markarth but he doesn't really count since you find out immediately after taking the quest that it has nothing to do with the faction. Anyway, can we get a confirmation stamp on this page that they have no faction-related quests?--69.205.180.81 10:44, 12 January 2012 (UTC)

The official game guide doesn't list any quests. Nobody on UESP has found any quests. I think it is safe to assume, that they have no quests. --Killfetzer 17:48, 12 January 2012 (UTC)

Quests[edit]

I typed "help stendarr 0" in the console and apparently there are quests about them:

QUST: WEDLVigilOfStendarr01 (000B328F) 'Vigilants fighting Atronach'
QUST: WEDLVigilOfStendarr02 (000B329E) 'Vigilants fighting Vampire'
QUST: WEDLVigilOfStendarr03 (000B32D6) 'Vigilants fighting Skeletons'
QUST: WEDLVigilOfStendarr04 (000B32F2) 'Vigilants Patrol'

However, I don't know much about the console, so I may be wrong. Also, I couldn't find these anywhere. 189.72.81.46 22:20, 14 January 2012 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure these are all Random Encounters. A few of them are already on that page. --Krusty 22:30, 14 January 2012 (UTC)
I thought QUST meant "quest"... looks like I was indeed wrong. Thanks for the answer though! 189.72.81.46 22:45, 14 January 2012 (UTC)

Dialog change?[edit]

I have never heard them say the phrases "Stendarr's mercy be upon you, for the vigil has none to spare" or "The mercy of Stendarr does not extend to Daedra worshippers" on any character until I have completed at least one Daedric quest with that character. Coincidence, or do they have daedra-quest ESP? GrogGrogGrog 03:28, 23 March 2012 (UTC)

It looks in the CK like it's randomized, so maybe you just lucked out and haven't heard those particular greetings yet. None of them have any conditions attached to them, so all of them should be possible. Robin Hoodtalk 07:38, 19 April 2012 (UTC)

Accurate?[edit]

Is this site accurate? There are also female Vigilants of Stendarr and not all of Vigilants seem to be Nords (I could swear that I have met Dunmer). I'm pretty sure that they also have more Primary Skills than just Two-handed as they are able to heal themselves for example. Finally, is the order found only across Skyrim? It looks like they are in other provinces too (it would make sense after the Oblivion Crisis). --Arkhon 04:39, 11 May 2012 (UTC)

I can confirm from personal experience that there are both male and female members of the VoS, as well as different races. I've encountered a female dunmer member of the vigil on more than one occasion over different characters for example. Also the line about Keeper Carcette (sp?) being the head of this *chapter* of the order here in Skyrim heavily implies there are others in other provinces. 75.87.249.240 18:29, 24 May 2012 (UTC)
Moved the faction info to a new faction page, with a section for the members. The Nord is the template for all members, and not the only type. The Silencer has spokenTalk 18:44, 24 May 2012 (UTC)
