Spell or Shout?[edit]

"Vile Vapor" is actually a shout used by the Afflicted. According to the game data, the shout's spell is called "Vile Vapors" and the spell's effect is called "Poison Spray". Therefore, if this article is supposed to be about the spell, I suggest renaming it. --Roger (talk) 16:29, 28 January 2013 (GMT)

It's a shout first and foremost. The way all shouts work is that they use spells to do the action, but we don't define them as spells. For instance, for Unrelenting Force, the first word is a spell entitled, "Unrelenting Force - Fus". So this should stay as a shout page and be formatted as such. Shout Summary Box[edit]

Okay, I've allowed some time after this edit, and since it's not yet been patrolled or otherwise touched I'm bringing it up here, after a brief and unresolved discussion. I am of the opinion, first and foremost, that that box needs to go (if deemed necessary, the ID, Effects, and Recharge sections can be incorporated into a more concise table). There's simply too many unknowns in it for it to be a useful addition; I mean, since when does someone shout "N/A"? Doesn't work. :P Moreover, I'm not sure that the page itself is necessary. It's the only of its type, and would perhaps fit better here, with similar abilities such as Steam Breath and (as listed in the link) "The soul-snare mist created by Alduin in Sovngarde". While I'm somewhat on the topic, those three (Vile Vapor, Steam Breath, Soul-Snare Mist Stuff) should have pictures to spruce up that boring list, which I'd offer to do if I weren't on the (currently dead) 360. So, opinions/objections? --¿Vulpa? 00:48, 16 August 2013 (GMT)

I agree with you on the use of the shout summary template here. It just looks unprofessional. As far as moving the info to the Dragon Shouts page and deleting this one, I'm not quite as sure, but I'm leaning towards agreement. --Xyzzy Talk 01:03, 9 September 2013 (GMT)

Any way for Dragonborn to use Vile Vapor?[edit]

I love this effect, and it would fit with the character of some of my characters. Heh. Since it's ability or inability to be used by the player isn't overtly stated in the article, I'll tinker around with the console and test the theory. --PaulyPorphyria (talk) 18:24, 14 September 2013 (GMT)

I think since the addspell commands doesn't work with shouts, I'd try the teachword command. --Xyzzy Talk 19:13, 14 September 2013 (GMT)
Aw damn, I tried teachword too, but it added random other shouts. Dragon Fire and Ice Storm, I think. Maybe it's just not able to be used by dragonborn. I found this walk through on it, http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/21133/? by Arke91, but I wasn't able to get it to work properly. I'm sure there is way to do it.--PaulyPorphyria (talk) 15:12, 15 September 2013 (GMT)
Interesting. I never used that command before. It does seem to add two random shouts to your arsenal each time you use it. I was able to get the Vile Vapor shout by using this command over an over again (probably 30 times), and was able to unlock it with a spare dragon soul, even though the "unlock shout" option wasn't visible when I put the pointer on it in my list of shouts, and it does work when you use it. The only drawback is that now I have a whole mess of shouts in my list that aren't unlocked, and many of them aren't visible. --Xyzzy Talk 16:40, 15 September 2013 (GMT)
Use the console command psb. Guard of DragonsSpeak To Me 18:08, 15 September 2013 (GMT)
Just be warned that the above advice can crash Skyrim. — ABCface 18:30, 15 September 2013 (GMT)

All 3 "Word ID" have the same ID?[edit]

Is this correct? How is it possible that they are different words--one version even has a shorter cooldown--even though the ID is the same? — Unsigned comment by 96.235.36.117 (talk) at 22:54 on 25 December 2019

The Word IDs have no direct affect on the cooldown timer, this is set inside the actual shout ID 0x00059327 seperate to the Word ID itself.
They do all use the same ID for each Word, the ID is 0x000252C3 and the word description for that word is WordDragonFire01. This has the effect of calling the spell DA13AfflictedBreath. This in turn uses an effect with the name of Poison Spary : Health. Interestingly this is an alteration spell but has no direct effect. This is itself just a shell, that calls a custom Papryus script. My best guess for the reason for all three words being the same effect is that they either use only the first one, or all three and no other combination of them. If they use all three with the total time before re-use being 203 seconds, it seems likely they will only use the ability once. The Papryus script itself calls another script that I can't get open.
