Boethiah (also spelled Boethia) is the Daedric prince who rules over deceit, conspiracy, secret plots of murder, assassination, treason, and unlawful overthrow of authority. He is also known as the Anticipation of Almalexia. Boethiah loves competition and battle, and is depicted as a great caped warrior, often in a stoic pose.

Heralded by the Prophet Veloth, Boethiah is the original god-ancestor of the Dark Elves. Through his illuminations, the eventual Chimer, or Changed Folk, renounced all ties to the Aldmer and founded a new nation based on Daedric principles. All manner of Dark Elven cultural 'advances' are attributed to Boethiah, from philosophy to magic to 'responsible' architecture. Ancient Velothi allegories are uniformly heroic successes of Boethiah over enemies of every type, foundation stories of Chimeri struggle.

It is possible Boethiah assisted Jagar Tharn in his temporary procurement of the Imperial throne.

The Hero of Daggerfall received the Ebony Mail only after proving himself worthy of such a boon by executing a rogue spellsword. In Daggerfall, Boethiah is allied with the Temple of Stendarr and his enemy is Ebonarm. He can be summoned on Gauntlet (Sun's Dusk 2nd).

In Morrowind, his influence had nearly waned, as the only shrine to him was destroyed in a catastrophic event that sent an entire city to the bottom of the Sea of Ghosts. The Nerevarine helped to restore his former glory by commissioning a new shrine to be built upon Khartag Point, a spot revered by the Orcs of Vvardenfell.

His competitive nature was manifested in his quest in Oblivion, in which the player was transported to his realm of Oblivion for a tournament to decide who was truly worthy of Goldbrand, an enchanted katana with a gold-colored blade.
